Sad Day

tarotgal: (Breaking Down)
End of an Era. I just watched the last ever episode of Monk and I can't stop crying.

It was a wonderful episode. It really did do everything I hoped it would do. Even if it was predictable for once, it was a really good predictable. I teared up a few times and I shed a few tears during that hug. But it wasn't until the end where he checks the stove and Natalie makes the comment about not wanting to get all the way downtown and not know if you turned the stove off or not that I LOST it. Totally bawling. I just re-watched the first ever episode of Monk on Sunday during the marathon and that was the very first thing in the whole series. So it was perfect. And I'm so glad I *got* that bit. But even if I hadn't started crying then, the montage would have set me off. I'm so happy for the characters but so sad to see them go!

I can still remember the pilot episode of Monk. I was sitting at the table in my old house, eating a late breakfast, and I found it starting on TV. My grandfather was visiting (the last visit I ever had with him before he died) and he wanted to know what I was watching. So I explained the concept (the show was only, like, 5 minutes in so all I knew were the commercials). And pretty soon my sister joined us in watching it. My parents probably saw some of it as well (can't remember how much). But from then on, it was like *our* show. My grandfather wasn't all that passionate about new things, especially after my grandmother died, so it was wonderful to see him get excited about something new. My family would watch shows occasionally, but it's hard to find something we all like. And even then usually it was something like Seinfeld while we were eating dinner, not first aired shows. But this... my grandfather in California watched it. And then everyone on my mother's side of the family-- Oregon, Texas, California, Virginia (I can't remember if the Canadians watched regularly; they don't watch a lot of TV as it is). It was like this common bond, this fun thing to talk to each other about and know that the others were watching.

My grandfather died the day before a new season of Monk was supposed to start, so he never knew Natalie. I remember my mom saying that he was shocked they had gotten rid of Sharona and wasn't sure he was going to like that switch; guess he never had to worry about the adjustment. My sister and my mom and her family were out in California to say goodbye to him and so, the day after he died, they sat together in his house and watched that episode sort of in his honor, and I watched it over here in Virginia with my dad. It made us all feel like we were together, you know?

But beyond that, it was just an exceptional show. There was just enough in every episode to let you figure it out... yet I was still unable to solve, like, 75% of the cases. I remember the race episode in season 1 (I think it was S1); that was the first one I ever solved completely, down to the last detail. I felt SO proud of myself. I used to take notes during episodes and then sit during that commercial break and try to figure it out (the notes sometimes helped, but not enough to keep doing them like a dork, LOL).

The characters were really what made the show special, though. Monk was of course an amazing character, but the whole cast was superb. And I grew very quickly to adore Natalie. But they all have places in my heart. When the actor who played Dr. Kroger died, I cried and I couldn't imagine how they could replace him, but Hector stepped in and did an excellent job. So many fun memories. And the way the last episode ended was just so perfect. I'm really happy with it. I just wish it didn't have to end!

tarotgal: (HIMYM- Watching tv)
So I'm doing the meme where you watch 1000 episodes in a year. I've been keeping a list but not doing a good job labeling the shows or posting the list, so I'm getting rid of the bold thing and I'm posting my first 7 months here.

Episodes watched from January through July )

Fall Shows

Nov. 12th, 2007 01:31 am
tarotgal: (HIMYM- Watching tv)
Better late than never, I guess, but here's what I'm watching this fall:

  • The Amazine Race- My favorite reality show, easily. A great mix of teams this year, though my favorite teams keep getting eliminated :-(

  • The Big Bang Theory- I don't know how I feel about this show. I love seeing JG back on TV, and I love the geek humor... however, so much of it seems to be making fun of geeks and insulting us, so it's kind of hard to take. The actress was never my favorite in Charmed and she's even more annoying in this show. The best part is DEFINITELY the Barenaked Ladies' theme song. I even bought it on iTunes and listened to it 100 times to learn the lyrics by heart

  • Blood Ties (recorded- need to catch up first)- I had to restart watching the whole series because I missed so many in season 1, but I'm taping season 2 so I'm prepared when I'm caught up. I really love the show, though, as unoriginal as the idea is. The characters are excellent.

  • Bones- I really enjoy this show still. They manage to move the characters forward just enough to keep our interest but not make it a soap opera. Booth and Bones are fantastic, and who doesn't love David? I especially appreciated the Pony Boys episode this season *G*

  • Boston Legal- Oh I NEVER miss an episode! I'm kind of annoyed by the changing cast because I loved casts from previous seasons. However, English chica is brilliant (Brilliant!) and John joining the cast was an extra special form of spectacular. It's still got its same mix of utterly insane, moral quandries, and sweetness. Sleep over?

  • Brothers & Sisters- I still really enjoy this show and it's all because of the characters. I really care about all of them and love seeing how far they can fall and still pick themselves up again. It's kind of a feel-good train wreck.

  • Carpoolers- I gave this a chance. I really liked the first episode (mmm, Jerry) and laughed out loud several times during it and the second episode. However, it's on against NCIS and Bones so it really has no chance. If it were in a different time slot, no question. But it's a guy's show and didn't win out with me.

  • Cavemen- Same problem with the time slot. I really like it and I'm taping it upstairs, but I'm not thrilled enough by it to kick my other two shows off in favor of it. I don't think it's as stupid as most people do. I think it's kind of funny, really. I've always loved the Geico commercials and I think it's clever at times.

  • Chuck- I'm taping this upstairs, too, so I've only seen episode 1. I really liked it, though. I laughed several times and I was worried for Chuck many times. My boss' son works in the Best Buy Geek Squad so it kind of hits home for me. Plus that nerd factor is great to see. Plus Adam Baldwin ROCKS!

  • Curb Your Enthusiasm- I'm way behind on this one, but I can get it from On Demand. The first couple episodes were awful-funny!

  • Desperate Housewives- It's another great season. My favorite has been seeing Kevin Rahm again (love the gay couple, LOL)! I LOVED him in Judging Amy. It's pretty impressive how much they can still do with this show and with these characters!

  • Dirty, Sexy Money- I started watching this because of Peter and I'm continuing to watch because it's kind of fascinating watching this fake famous family go down in flames.

  • ER- So far, it's been a tough season for just about everyone, but I still love the show and watch every episode. After last week, I'm glad Luca will be back next week.

  • Heroes- It's okay that season 2 isn't as good as season 1... it's still better than just about every show out there! I love Mohindir and Matt moving in together to look after Molly. I LOVE Nathan and Peter being alive. I love the chica from Dinatopia showing up. I love the new characters and new possibilities. Okay, so the virus is overdone in comics, but it still makes sense. I'm really loving everything.

  • How I Met Your Mother- Still amazes me at being one of my very favorite shows on TV right now. It always makes me laugh out loud. I adore the characters and the writing.

  • Journeyman- Well, time travel, I obviously couldn't miss this one. I like the balance of personal life and time travelling duties. The "must help people" part of it is also over-done (can you say Quantum Leap?) but I still enjoy the show so far and all its mysteries.

  • Kid Nation- It's not bad, but I really wish they were just let alone. You've got the host in there all the time and the book and producers coming up with themes and showdowns every week. I guess you have to because they're kids but still it's not as amazing an experience as it claimed to be. I still watch it to see how the kids handle things, though.

  • Moonlight- ANOTHER do-gooder vampire show. But, hey, it's a do-gooder vampire so I still watch. I like the complicated relationships and there are a few neat moments every episode. I like Mick a lot and I sort of enjoy the redefining vampire myths- guess it makes it easier to film, too.

  • NCIS- Possibly my very favorite show on TV! I LOVE the characters, even though they keep scaring me this season! Fantastic episodes, though. Really wonderful. Happy 100 NCIS!

  • Numb3rs- Colby killed me dead at the end of last season and beginning of this one. Larry's a hoot (I just about died laughing at the end of last Friday's episode). I like where all the characters are and the cases are still creative and great, even though they seem to be bending things a little at times on the math/metaphor fronts.

  • Prison Break- I still love the show, but it's dirty this season. I mean, dirty as in they're in an AWFUL place where they're all sweaty and muddy and icky... which is much less sexy. But it's still shocking and violent and beautiful and emotional. And they're my boys- I've GOT to find out what happens to them!

  • Pushing Daisies- OMG OMG OMG. Definitely my favorite new show this season! JIM DALE! I mean, come on! It's clever and original in presentation and just plain GORGEOUS. I can't get enough of this show. Every time I finish an episode I just want more! Seriously, I can't say enough about this show. I absolutely love everything about it.

  • Survivor- My second favorite reality show. I've enjoyed the twists and lots of the players... even though there are a good number I don't like (and that's so skinny it's painful to watch). It's certainly neat to see a show filmed entirely in China and I've like that flavor that's been in the challenges/rewards.

  • Tell Me You Love Me- I watched one episode and stopped. I couldn't get into it. The characters were confusing and I kept mixing them up.

  • Torchwood- Okay, when I said Pushing Dasies was my favorite new show, I totally lied. Torchwood is my new favorite obsession! Makes me wish I'd seen more of Dr. Who, but I'll get the DVDs and catch up. All of the characters are SO freakin incredible and the plots and fantastic and the sex- well it IS the creator of Queer as Folk! The humor and humanity and supernatural and cleverness and beauty and AH! I just ADORE this show sooooooooooo much! It's got everything... and stopwatches ;-)

Quite a few of these I've seen 1 or 2 episodes of... but I'm sure not 3. Makes me want to track them down and watch an episode just so I can bold them. LOL!

SQUEE!

Tonight's episode of 'How I Met Your Mother' was totally a mini-Buffy/Angel reunion!!!
Alyson was there (of course, as she's one of the main characters) but Alexis guest starred for the second time also :-) And then, suddenly, there was also Amy Acker! *mad giggles* And the cool thing was- none of them had any lines with each other! LOL

Gods, I love that show. The fact that the casting is what it is makes it just that much more fun to watch :-)

LMAO

Yeah, I'm a sucker for British comedies, but I just stumbled upon a marathon of Little Britain on LOGO just now. I quickly popped in the video tape just before Anthony Head lost his pants.

OMG. Sexy ASH in plaid boxers! Be still my heart!!!

This is definitely one of the weirdest shows I've ever watched in my life but I'm rolling on the floor with laughter on and off. I definitely have a thing for British comedies. Mmmm... and anything with Anthony in it... mmm...

On a completely different note... I had another Bookcrossing catch on Friday! WHOOHOO! The person who caught it is taking it to Mexico to release it. I'm thrilled. Very exciting :-) Totally made my day!!!

LMAO!!!! A Gay Trekkies Club. This show freaking ROCKS!!!
tarotgal: (Fucking Hot B/J)
Watched last QaF episode just now. Sad and amusing and fucking hot all at once. Loved all the nods to the first episode and to things throughout the series. I didn't want it to happen, but it had everything I wanted. I'm sorry to see it go but it ended just as it lived and I couldn't want anything other than that. *cries through heartfelt golf claps then jumps up and dances*

So... yeah. Is it May 9 yet??? *wants DVDs*
tarotgal: (Fandom Whore)
Just wached Prison Break. Loved. My tv guide gave it a good review yesterday, my Washington Post gave it a terrible review today, but I loved it. Lots of complications, lots of little pieces to the puzzle, and two of my nummy boys. Went was fantastic, as I knew he would be (outstanding acting at times, even)! I love his character muchly. Dom's was... well, cardboardy but that's what I love about him. He can make even interesting characters flat but incredibly snuggleable- that's the magic that is Dominic. Sort of like Heath in that way, with only one expression no matter what (worried). But I'll definitely be watching every week. Until they cancel it. Because all my favorite shows always get cancelled. *pout* But until then... my cute boys with tats and haircuts and sexy uniforms... okay, yeah, prison but they're both good boys *pets*

First off... wow. Lots of challenge claims already! Yay everyone! *hugs* I hope this goes well :-)

Second... I'm still getting over my shock after last night's Six Feet Under episode. Oh. My. Gods. I was floored and unprepared.

Third... I still really hate FOX as a network but DAMN they know how I like my shows and boys! *G*
Prison Break- I've been DYING to see this for months now. The concept is interesting, but the boys. SQUEEEEE! I'm so thrilled to see Wentworth Miller (Dinatopia) in so many things this fall (especially since Joan of Arcadia fizzled out for season 3 which he would have ROCKED in!). But Wentworth AND my nummy Dominic Purcell starring together as brothers in prison, in uniforms, with lots of angst? Dear GODS but I can't look away! LOL
Bones- David. In the sunlight. *giggles* Seriously, it doesn't look fantastic or original but I don't care. It's DAVID!!!!! I'm so going to watch and tape every single second. *G*
Reunion- I absolutely love the concept. If I could create a show, it'd be something weird like this time-wise. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they're going to handle it. Plus Keith's actor from Six Feet Under! Yay!
Kitchen Confidential- Seriously not really my thing but with Nicholas Brendon in the cast you BET I'm going to watch it! Was ever so thrilled to see him in the commercial tonight. SQUEEEE!
Head Cases- Chris O'Donnell's in this. Law stuff that looks like a bad attempt at all the successful law stuff. So I'll give it a shot for Chris' sake but probably stick with Boston Legal because I love it and its ensemble muchly.

And then, of course, more of The OC. My Thursdays are totally going to FOX now. Even after Survivor starts up again. (Because it's all about taping the cute boys. LOL) And nothing's ever on Monday anyway, so it'll be good to have Kitchen and Prison to look forward to. At least until they get cancelled because everything I love to death invariably gets cancelled. LOL

Brat Camp

Jul. 27th, 2005 08:18 pm
tarotgal: (Bad boy Spike)
Confession: I've such a crush on the field instructors/staff members of Brat Camp. Especially Fire Shaper- darn that one kid for suggesting he looks like a Hobbit! So cute. So so cute. And very smart. Nummy field instructors!
I've a feeling that if it didn't take place in the cold months, I wouldn't enjoy this show so much. So much more compelling with the snow and coats. I love winter camping. I mean, it SUCKS and it's SO much easier in the summer. But there's just something about winter camping that's exciting and frightening and emotional.

In general, I love this show. It really is fascinating. I rather wish my cousin had gone to this place; he went somewhere similar and it helped a lot. I really hope these kids decide they want the help, too.

A few random notices for y'all.

SciFi's showing all of Firefly starting this Friday before the Stargates. I've known about this for a few weeks but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone cares and doesn't yet know. I'm looking forward to it :-)

Gameshow Network's showing The Amazing Race at 9pm and 12pm every single day. They're down to 5 teams right now, but when I say they're showing the show, I mean ALL of it. All 7 seasons. One episode every night for the entire summer. So.. yeah... if you like it and missed any (I never saw most of season 1, which is what's playing now) tune in.

My FAVORITE Harry Potter artist, Marta, *points to icon* has opened a slash journal! It's got the info about how to get to the Slash section of her site and any new art (though she's not doing much of it lately) will be up there. So all you people who haven't seen it yet, go right now! It's beautiful!

Marta's new Slash journal: [livejournal.com profile] slashiet (With link to that part of her site- You must be a member to read the posts)

Oh... and Vault 711 has a new Remus/Sirius comic up that I just ADORE! It's got HBP spoilers but it's fantastic. It's the one in red (#35) http://www.persephone.nu/711/ *sigh* Makes me feel SO much better about HBP ;-) Of course, I still like #23 for that as well.
tarotgal: (Make the muses happy!)
First off- I am SO behind on FB. But I just wanted to say (not that anyone's reading, but I feel guilty enough as it is)-
Shadowscast- I'm still in awe and totally in love with your fics and THANK YOU!!!
Meg- I totally need to get cracking on my fb for you for your LOST fic. I've mentioned it before but I still adore it.
Nermal- The Magic Box fic is incredible and I was sooooooooo excited to read the next part today! Squeee! I owe you serious feedback for all the parts.
Circe- awww! Sick!Harry is adorable indeed, but I adore your Snape as well. Fantastic dynamic and I look forward to more :-)

Okay, now that that's out of the way...

So on my way home from work yesterday I splurged and bought Season 5 of Angel. It's been at the top of my list for at least 7 months now, and I figured since tomorrow's pay day and I've been having a rough time health-wise, what the heck, why not?

Yum.

I actually didn't take it out of the plastic until today, just to give myself a period of "you really shouldn't be buying this, are you sure you don't want to return it?" Fuck no I don't! LOL

So I watched disk 1 today *sigh* So glad I convinced myself to buy it FINALLY. It's one of my least favorite seasons (I don't usually like last seasons that are so completely different in setting/underlying story, etc... plus all the death of my wonderful characters *snuggles*) but even so, it has some of my absolute favorite moments ever. And Spike. It's got Spike. So, yeah. Couldn't resist. Couldn't. *hugs the set*

So now I own Buffy Season 1 and Angel Season 5. Very strange. Understandable because of the whole low income thing, but funny. I find it funny.

And funnier yet, after 4 days of nonstop Jossverse ficcage, the moment I put in the DVD, I start writing a Star Wars bunny that came to me on my drive home. LOL! I can't resist the sniffly padawan. Not when he's all sniffly and needy and trying to be all good and Qui's all snuggly and sweet and no, couldn't resist that either *EG* It's a one-shot, but it's coming along nicely. I've definitely been in a snuggly mood lately when it comes to fics.

Which probably says a lot more about RL than it should. For the last week I haven't been eating much though I've been very hungry. ANd usually a couple pieces of toast made the hunger go away. So today I decided just screw that, I'm going to eat and if I get sick I get sick and I'll deal. Today no matter what I ate, I couldn't be not hungry. I ate, like, 3 days' worth of food and am still feeling hunger pains... along with the whole nausea thing at the very same time. WTF?! I hate my body. I give up. I just don't know what to do with it any more.

And tomorrow I get to wake up an hour early so I can go walk neighbor's dog for them. *cries* I tried napping 5 times today after I got home from work (kept nodding off in front of the comp) but every time the phone or something woke me up (example- boss calling me to see if I remembered where he put the printout of the document we'd spent all day working on. He lost it. I told him to print another copy and had to step him through the whole dang thing. LOL)

Definitely not as nice as today's waking up and spending an hour with the QAF boys. *sigh* I absolutely detest mornings... but that's definitely a good way to start a day. Boss said it was very funny to watch me watch the show. LOL! Yeah, okay, so I occasionally make comments or call out the next lines... but they're my boys! :-) Anyhoo... going to go shower and wash hair and HOPE I can fall asleep tonight. Unlike last night where images of an uncomfortable Obi-Wan during piloting lessons would NOT get out of my head... and worries about my sister's calc exam today wouldn't either. Tonight should be better *crosses fingers*

I had a very long day today.

4:00am- Went to sleep

7:15am- Woke up, checked e-mail, got dressed. Had to be at work at 10.

7:25am- Went back to sleep.

7:35am- Woke up, did usual sit-up routine, brushed teeth & hair.

7:45am- Drove to work

7:55am- Stopped by bagel bakery and sat in car for a minute to see if they were open yet. They were. Bought a bagel and cream cheese as a special breakfast.

8:00am- Got to work, sat down with calculus book and nummy special breakfast and pushed play on the season premiere episode of Queer as Folk my boss tivo-ed for me.

QAF SIDENOTE: All three dogs when mad every time I squeed, which I did a bit of. It's so THRILLING for me to actually be watching QAF on tv! Instead of having to wait for it to download (which I can no longer do) or waiting for the DVDs (which I'll buy anyway). But I have to say three things (not really spoilers):
1- TODD! SQUEEEEE! SOOOOO happy am I! *gigglefit*
2- Justin's smile is the sweetest, cutest, most adorable, most attractive thing I've ever seen in my life *melts completely*
3- I was slightly spoiled by reading the episode summary online and an article in my newspaper yesterday. But I'm glad I read the article- it made me feel a lot better about the worse plot points. ANd I am guilty of NOT recognizing a certain blond character's tiny picture which accompanyed the newspaper article. *shakes head pitifully*

9:00-ish am- Fridge repair guy came. I didn't know he was coming, but I did know the fridge wasn't working. So I showed him fridge. Boss woke up. Chica who lives in boss basement this week (sister of cute sneezy marine boy who lived in boss' basement a few months ago) woke up. They both avoided asking me what I was watching on tv 5 feet from the kitchen. Possibly because of the very naked boys fucking on screen. *blush* Boss' 90-something year-old mother didn't mention anything either when she briefly passed by around 9:45am. I kept having to stop because of the noise going on with the fridge repair and the peoples walking around eating breakfast.

10:00am- Finish the calculus lesson I prepared for tutoring today. Finished the episode- and was pleasantly surprised by it. I really should not have doubted the excellence that is QAF. Finished breakfast. And started work.

5:55pm- Finish work. Nonstop work. But got to play with moving files from one comp onto our new laptop so that was fun.

6:05pm- Photocopy calculus homework assignment at Staples on my way home.

6:15pm- Get home to find sister asleep so no calculus tutoring to be done. Lucky duck- she got to sleep. Poor thing only got 8 hours of sleep the night before. *is slightly annoyed* I ate lunch/dinner instead. Discussed vacation plans with parents.

7:30pm- Watched Ken on Jeopardy. I am fearful for him!

8:00pm- Watch American Idol while typing up and putting together the calculus lesson. I'm so glad my two top favorites are in the final two.

9:00pm- Watch Rob & Amber's wedding special thingy.

9:30pm- Finish putting together calc lesson. Sister still asleep. I started writing another one-a-day fic.

11:00pm- Not done with fic yet. Wedding was sweet. Dad got offline finally after having spent 3 hours trying to make plane reservations. They wouldn't take his free airline miles. Drat! So we're paying a lot but the good news is I'll be housesitting here for a week so nice happy private time to myself for a change. Yayness! I clean out catboxes and sweep basement. Then I begin to call American Idol now that the phone is free. Redial is my friend.

12:30am- I've finished one of the two episodes of Buffy that were on today and have called for Bo more than 300 times. I call it quits with the calling (pun intended, I suppose) and sit back to watch the other Buffy episode. The FINAL episode.

1:30am- I finish the Buffy series finale. Cried a little (even though I knew the outcome as I've seen Angel, there were still a few happy & sad reasons to cry).

1:45am- Help mother try to wake sister up. Does no good. She's still asleep. And I still need to finish this fic for tomorrow. It's only two pages along. But hopefully it'll go quickly. But because I want to dig myself a deeper hole, I'm typing out an account of my day here instead of working on it. GAH!

*scurries off to write madly* Luckily, I don't have to be up until 9am so I still have a few more hours until I completely drop dead. *crosses fingers* I totally confused my tenses there on that timeline... too busy to correct. Sorry about that. Stupid moi.

My sister was flipping through the channels tonight between American Idol (WTF?!!!!!!! I'm going to slap everyone voting for Scott!) and Eyes (Awwww! Guy who's a guest star everywhere asked out big black gay man! And very cute boy kissed chica who used to be on My So Called Life! Awww!) and she decided to watch Full House on Nick@Nite.

It was the Valentine's Day episode with the sweater stealing. And with Jesse sneezing a few times because he's allergic to hay (which of course never pops up again in future plots when he goes, say, horseback riding) after a romantic hay ride on his date. But VERY with the cute! It repeats again tonight (Thursday morning) at 5:30am EST for anyone who wants to see/tape it and actually sees this in time.
