I set it in Lothlorien because: 1-they were the only group of elves I could imagine who actually might go as far as to laugh and 2-the very first story in the series took place there; so it felt like coming full circle after all this time. It was fun revisiting that silly, pink-flowered bush.
Legolas and Gimli will DEFINITELY smooth things over with the little elflings. Thanks for thinking of them. I feel like, were it not for the itching/rash and the experience knowing how bad the sneezing would get, Legolas might have tried to tough it out for their sake. But Gimli wouldn't have let his elf suffer in any case.
I love that by now in their relationship, Gimli knows what to do and how to help and is going to make damn well sure Legolas gets what he needs (even if it means sailing off to the undying lands by his side). Gimli never was the type to put up with ceremony for ceremony's sake when there was something more important afoot, but I imagine many years of their being together also means many years of caring for/protecting Legolas (Legolas doing the same for him, of course) and by now he's not going to let anything stop him. He always seemed like an "act first, deal with the consequences later" kind of dwarf :-)
