I just finished reading Deep Water (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by Josepha Sherman, Laura Anne Gilman. There's a passage I thought I'd type up here for y'all

Willow's preforming a spell...

The skin twitched slightly under Willow's hand, a hazy glow forming in her palm, and drifting out to cover Ariel's shoulders, gathering over the surface of the sealskin.
"It's working..." Oz said in a whisper. Xander nodded, his nose wrinkling slightly as some of the spell dust reached them on a current from the school's ventilation system.
"Aegir, look upon your child with favor.
"Aegir, look upon your child with love.
"Release the bonds of human making.
"Release her to-"
"Haaa-chooo!"
Willow squeaked, Oz started, and Ariel leaped forward off the table, directly into Giles' arms. The glow burst like a soap bubble, and Watcher and selkie both fell over backward, landing on the tile floor with a loud and painful-sounding crash.
Xander, his hand covering his offended nose, blushed a deep, unattractive red. "Sorry."

Unattractive? Say what?
Nummy nummy ;-)

All righty. So this week's cover challenge at BookCrossing is Nursery Rhymes. A book about them, a book with a title taken from one, a book with the word 'rhyme' or 'nursery' or even 'verse' in the title.

I had SUCH a difficult time! Sort of... LOL I'm really, really addicted to buying books, have I mentioned that? LOL Here was my morning:

Went to King's Park Library:
-Looked at sale shelves a LONG time
-Ended up purchasing:
Dogwatching (I own Catwatching already, hardback)
Catlore (follow-up to Catwatching, hardback)
The Mists of Avalon (will BookCross with)
The Island of Dr. Moreau (will BookCross with)
-I passed on 'The Tenth Insight'. I'm listening to the Celestine Prophecy (sp?) right now on tape and now I feel compelled to read the follow-up book... even though I'm HATING the first book. Why do I still feel compelled to read another book I hate, just to complete the series? I can be so OCD sometimes about books. Luckily, though, both books were on the sale shelf and they looked so happy together that I didn't want to separate them. So I managed to justify it and let myself escape without it. Whew!
-Cost of visit: $1.20
-Nursery Rhyme Books Found: A big fat 0

Then I went to Pohick Regional Library:
-Looked at the sale shelves an even LONGER time
-Ended up purchasing:
Blaster Master (young adults novel based on one of my favorite Nintendo games! LOL)
Chasing Stanley (OMG! I just bought this off Amazon.com for list price. Doh! I'll BookCross with it... maybe in honor of the Stanley Cup playoffs. I might start a bookring/bookbox)
Sphere (will BookCross with- actually, will probably send out in honor of my 5 year BC birthday in August)
The X-Files: Antibodies (will BookCross with)
Buffy the Vamp Slayer: Ghost Roads (cuz I can't resist anything with Spike on the cover)
Gorillas in the Mist (will BookCross with)
Paige by Paige (Trading Spaces book, will BookCross with after I read it)
Eeyore Loses a Tail (hardcover pop-up book rather damaged but it's *Eeyore*!)
-And then, at the end of my searching I finally found 'Ride a Cockhorse' by Raymond Kennedy!!! However, I couldn't remember if that was a Nursery Rhyme or just a song from my childhood. I debated a LONG time, especially since it was a hardcover and cost $1. But then I finally bought it for BookCrossing, intending to look it up when I got home.
-Cost of visit: $6
-Nursery Rhyme Books Found: 1 maybe?????

Then I stopped by the used bookstore on my way home:
-Went straight to the children's section
-Found a beautiful hardcover Mother Goose collection for $11. Did not bother picking that up.
-Turned the corner and found a hardback easy reader 'Jack and Jill' which I immediately picked up
-Then I looked through all their shelves and found a book entitled 'The Sneeze' which I had to thumb through but absolutely could not make myself purchase. LOL
-On the second-to-last one, found a black & white checked Mother Goose collection exactly like the one I had when I was a kid. It was... $3 I think, and huge. And right next to it was the Random House Poetry hardcover book I had as a kid containing that nose poem with the illustration of the gentleman blowing his stuffy nose that I used to LOVE looking at when I was young. *blush*
-BUT right next to those two was a very skinny copy of 'My First Mother Goose Book' which was actually my very first Mother Goose book as a child!!!!!!!!!!! In fact, this one is in better condition than mine was/is because mine was second-hand, too. ANYWAY, I was thrilled! I put Jack & Jill back and got this one because it was only $0.75. Which, in that store (always horribly over-priced) is incredible!
-I skimmed through the book and saw, right there, 'Ride a Cockhorse' just as I'd expected. But I still bought the Mother Goose book because of my attachment to it. And because it was nice enough to confirm my suspicion about the more expensive book I'd just purchased.
-I looked at the sports books, hoping for hockey, and found a kid's book on the Great One, but didn't buy it ($3). Then I looked at the TV/Sci-Fi section and almost bought another Man from UNCLE book, or an Earth 2 book, or a Buffy/Angel book, but held back.
-I heard a women asking the man who runs the store about Diana Gabaldon, and the guy didn't know who that was (WHAT THE HELL?) so I took that as my cue to approach the counter and fill him in and check out, thus sparing myself the shame of buying more books I won't have time to read
-Cost of visit: $0.79 (with tax)
-Nursery Rhyme Books Found: 1!!!

So now I obviously wish that I'd just tried the used bookstore first. And I feel like I'm addicted to buying books. Damn hobby! LOL It was a fun albeit frustrating morning.

  • And then... the best of the bunch... The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien (hardcover) (This is a GORGEOUS copy with a green cover and gold on the front. It's got the author's illustrations in color and looks like it hasn't ever been read it's in such good condition, except for a little tape on the binding. I'm thrilled at the pretty- how could I pass up such a thing at $2?)

So all this went for $37.50. That's 38 items for $37- about a dollar each, also. But some really excellent books (lots of hardbacks and some audio books, and some presents) Seriously, I'm thrilled. I keep going back and forth between the Buffy comic and The Hobbit and Q's Guide. I'm having a VERY happy fangirl time tonight while I watch hockey.

Just came back from the library book sale again. I only got two bags' worth but I think I got a lot of good stuff and useful stuff:

For Bookcrossing:
  • 19 Dog books for the upcoming dog challenge
  • The Scottish Rose by Jill Jones
  • Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare
  • Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence
  • Skipping Christmas by John Grisham
  • Dubliners by James Joyce
  • Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
  • The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare

  • Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare (yes, two copies)

For me (or maybe BookCrossing eventually for a few of them):
  • Her Majesty's Wizard by Christopher Stasheff
  • X-Men (movie novelization)
  • The Once and Future King by T.H. White (I thought that went remarkably well with the above X-Men book, no? heehee)
  • The Pearl by John Steinbeck (I've never read this)
  • Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens (One of the few Dickens works I've never read)
  • Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy (I haven't read this either)
  • Star Trek DS9: Objective: Bajor by John Peel
  • Walden and On the Duty of Civil Disobedience by Thoreau (I've always wanted to read this cover-to-cover, not just portions like we did in school)
  • Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
  • Winter Moon by Dean Koontz
  • X-Files: Runes by Kevin J. Anderson
  • X-Files: Goblins by Charles Grant
  • Dave Barry Slept Here by Dave Barry
  • The Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov (I have all three in separate paperbacks, but thought this was nice to have them all together in one volume)

  • Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery (Hardback and beautifully illustrated)
  • The Art Book by Phaidon
  • Catwatching by Desmond Morris
  • Wolves by Candace Savage (I thought it would be good inspiration and I don't own any wolf books)
  • The Wolves of Yellowstone by Phillips & Smith
  • Trail of the Wolf by R. D. Lawrence
  • National Gallery of Washington
  • National Gallery of London
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
  • Computer Game: Star Trek: Judgement Rites (I dunno if it's any good, but it looks not so hard and interesting)
  • Audiobook: Animal Farm by George Orwell (I'm in the middle of reading it right now, but I thought the audio might be fun)
  • Audiobook: Icebound by Dean Koontz (For me/my boss)
  • Audiobook: Alice & Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll (I checked when I got home and it is missing one of four tapes- grrr. So I dunno)
  • Audiobook: The Shining- Stephen King
  • Audiobook: Everything's Eventual by Stephen King
  • Audiobook: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
  • Audiobook: Schindler's List by Thomas Keneally
  • Audiobook: The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
  • Audiobook: Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
  • Audiobook: Wild Mountain Thyme by Rosamende Pilcher (I have bought copies of this for BC but thought reading it/listening to it would be good to do)
  • Audiobook: I Am Spock by Leonard Nimoy (Read by Leonard Nimoy)
  • Audiobook: Star Trek: Voyager: Mosaic by Jeri Taylor (Read by Kate Mulgrew)
  • Audiobook: The James Joyce Audio Collection (Some read by James Joyce)

So not bad for $10 in total, right? *G* This should last me a VERY long while!!! I plan to pass on many of the books and audiobooks when I'm done with them.

More books

Day two of the book sale... I intended not to buy much and it turns out I didn't. Tomorrow when I go I might buy a lot... there's a lot I'd LOVE to buy if it's available.

But today:

  • The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (I just saw Wilde for the first time the other day and I'm in a mood, naturally)
  • The Vision by Deen Koontz (for my boss and his son)
  • The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by various (different authors like Steven King and Dorothy Hughes write Sherlock Holmes stories)
  • CD: Rufus Wainwright (because OMG I love Rufus- the sexy sexy boyo- and I don't own any of his CD's)
  • Slapshots: The best and Worst of 100 Years of Hockey by Stephen Cole (small book but yay)
  • Audiobook: Hornblower and the Hotspur by C.S. Forester (how the hell did I miss this yesterday? SQUEEEEEEE!)

The above purchases came to $4.50 in total. Not bad. Not bad at all.
I was looking especially for a few books... including Hornblower books. And couldn't find any though I saw the HH Audiobook at the last minute and nearly squeed out loud!!! Oohhhhhh!!! I cannot WAIT!!! Sooooooooooo excited!

Book Sale

Jun. 9th, 2006 07:38 pm
tarotgal: (Fred the Bibliophiliac)
*facepalm* The guy checking me out at the book sale this morning recognized me from the 2005 sale. LOL It was a MADHOUSE this morning. People with handcarts. People lined out into the parking lot before opening. People pushing and shoving in a room that had to be more than 100 degrees. It was crazy... but damn fun at the same time. It's always so thrilling to see what treasures are there for you to pick out and claim.

Today's purchases (which were pretty much selfish "for me" purchases):
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events- Book 1- The Bad Beginning
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events- Book 2- The Reptile Room
  • Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll (no longer must I borrow the family edition)
  • X/1999 Manga- Prelude
  • X/1999 Manga- Overture (Vol 2)
  • X/1999 Manga- Sonata (Vol 3)
  • No Plot? No Problem! by Chris Baty
  • Errors in English and Ways to Correct Them by Harry Shaw
  • Lady of the Glen by Jennifer Roberson (one of my favorite books ever. I'm going to make sure a friend has a copy and BC with it if she doesn't need this copy)
  • The Lost World by Michael Crichton (I realized I didn't own a copy of this, though I own every other Crichton book, practically)
  • Stargate SG-1: The Morpheus Factor by Ashley McConnell
  • On the Ice with Wayne Gretzky by Matt Christopher
  • The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien (I already own two copies of this, but this is the edition that matches my set of old LotR books and fits in the pretty 50th aniversary box I have for them)
  • Young Indiana Jones Chronicles- The Secret Peace (I've always wanted to read a Young Indy book)
  • Young Indiana Jones Chronicles- Revolution! (... or two)
  • Audiobook: The Mists of Avalon by MZB (how I could I resist this book on tape?!)
  • Audiobook: Timeline by Michael Crichton (one of my fave MC books... I had to buy it on tape)
  • Audiobook: Ishmael by Daniel Quin (possibly my favorite book EVER!!! I just bought a copy at the same library on Tuesday to BC with... now I get to hear it on audio! *wants desperately to know how the gorilla's voice sounds*)
  • Audiobook: The Princess Bride by William Goldman (Read by Rob Reiner! Yay! How cool!)
  • Audiobook: Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne (I picked it up hoping it might be the version I listened to in my childhood, over and over again. I don't remember there being multiple people, though. This is the BBC version. So it'll be amusing and enjoyable anyway)
  • Audiobook: The Way of Art by Joseph Campbell (got this for my sister for her birthday in a month)
  • Audiobook: Tick Tock by Dean Koontz (got this for my boss, who listens to lots of Koontz on tape/CD)
  • CD: Evanescence- Fallen
  • CD: Lord of the Rings Soundtrack- The Fellowship of the Rings (I'm not really into soundtracks too much any more, but for $1 hell yeah I'm going to buy it!)
  • CD: Lord of the Rings Soundtrack- The Return of the King

For $25. A little pricy, but not too bad considering how many were audio books (which I'm currently addicted to lately). I looked for Hornblower and didn't see any *pout* And I looked for Star Wars books (very few). And I looked through all the painful romances for the hockey ones I'm desperate to read. But nothing. I almost bought an older (but not that old) edition of The Wizard of Oz. Maybe if it's still there on the last day I'll get it. I'm definitely going back tomorrow and Sunday (Sunday they do a "everything you can fit in a paper bag for $10" sale). I'm most excited about the X mangas, though, I think. They were "misfiled" in Sci-Fi but now, thanks to used books sales exclusively, I have 5 of them. If I keep this up, maybe I'll get them all! I really wanted to find a nice Celtic CD for my dad for Father's Day but no such luck. Maybe one was there and I overlooked it. I also restrained myself from buying things like Wicked on audiobook, when I have the book sitting right here for me to read. So $25 is a little much... but I know I'll get five times that's worth out of it all :-)

Despite buying a handful of romance novels a year or so ago so I could break in and study them as I thought about writing one... and apart from the few I've spent half a minute skimming through and rolling my eyes at the prose... I finished reading my first romance novel today. Okay, I don't consider the Outlander series to be romance, honestly. It's just historical fiction with nummy romance and sex thrown in.

Anyway, I picked it up at the library on the sale shelf (10 cents) on Saturday and, of course, breezed through it (even though I'm a SLOW reader). It was a hockey romance- Fair Play- and quite enjoyable. And now I'm completely addicted and I'm going to have to buy every single one of Deirdre Martin's books JUST so I'll be able to survive off season. The playoffs aren't even over and already my whole house is starting to get nervous about hockey withdrawl! Usually we make our way through our DVDs (Mighty Ducks, Mystery Alaska, Miricle, Slap Shot 1 & 2, etc.), religiously follow the world competition (even though there's little-to-no coverage in the US) and maybe re-read the various Hockey Legends books we have. But I'm so totally into these characters now and, to be honest, the 20-something hockey slash fanfiction websites just aren't doing it for me yet. So, horribly cheesy and formulaic as these books are... I must own them all and add them to my off season coping routine.

On a completely unrelated note... my mother was looking for jobs for my sister in the newspaper this weekend and found my ideal job. I'm going to send in an application and I'll probably die if I don't get the job... but I'm not getting my hopes up, either. It's just... OH MY GODS perfect for me. I sooooooooooooo want it. But I never luck out like that, and I'm lacking a few of the skills required, so we'll see. It would just make my LIFE if I could get it though. So if anyone wants to start thinking happy thoughts and sending warm vibes my way starting June 2nd (application deadline) feel free! :-)

Another day, another stop at the book sale. Came home with a TON of good books even though pickings were slim:

  • Twelve Dog books- various dog books, all for a BC challenge
  • Greyfriars Bobby by Eleanor Atkinson- A dog book for meeeeee! I love this story (and saw his marker in Scotland when I visited!) and I can always use it for next year's Scotland challenge if I decide not to keep it (but I think I'll be keeping it)
  • Complete Hockey Instruction by Dave Chambers- Oohhh! With plays and skills and everything. This will soooo come in handy when watching hockey and when writing Jamie-based Strokes fics
  • On the Road by Howard Berger- An inside view of life with an NHL team- OMG how did I not see this before! *wants* *grabs* *hugs*
  • Hockey Trivia by Don Weekes- with quizzes, games, and brain teasers- naturally I thought I'd like this *G* There's a personal note on the inside cover from someone calling herself "Hockey Momma" giving it to the "Hockey brothers" with love. Awww! Why didn't they want it any more?! *sniffles*
  • Wild Mountain Thyme by Rosamunde Pilcher- Might be a moth on the cover (damn- this week's BC challenge is a butterfly) but it'll definitely count for next year's BC Scotland challenge
  • Summer Lovers by various authors- Has a butterfly on the cover so I'll be BCing with this
  • Highland Groom by Hannah Howell- Again with the BC Scotland challenge
  • The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco- for BCing with
  • James Joyce- A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man- I have owned 3 copies of this book. I BCed with one last St.Patty's day and kept one for myself. So I can save this one for BCing with next St.Patty's day, too, and start a tradition
  • Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence- I'm in love with this book. Nearly done reading it, but I only have a BC copy that I need to send on when I'm done, so i can keep this one and re-read it whenever I like!
  • LotR: FotR by Tolkien- I should have bought these on day one so I could have a complete set (of course Legolas would be the missing one)... but I love my original set so much I will probably end up BCing with this. It's got movie-Frodo on the cover
  • LotR: RotK by Tolkien- See above comment, only with brooding Aragorn on the cover. Will probably BC with
  • Star Trek: Spectre by William Shatner- On day three, there were just a few ST novels left... most of which were written by Bill. *pats sympathetically* So I took pity on one and bought it. Seems like a pretty interesting plot, though
  • The Joy of Signing by Lottie L. Riekenhof (Hardback)- For the last few days I've been thinking about trying again to learn how to sign. I know the alphabet and about 30 words on top of that but that's it. I've ALWAYS wanted to learn and I even have a 'learn how to sign' DVD on my Blockbuster queue. But I always have to take books out of the library and now I own one. Yay :-)
  • Nightmares & Dreamscapes by Stephen King (Hardback)- I've been seeing the TV commercials for this for the last few days and I hadn't read it so I thought I should buy it and do so :-)
  • Four Past Midnight by Stephen King (Hardback)- I have a small paperback copy but this was too pretty to pass up. So I'll BC with the paperback
  • Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler- I've been staring at this for a few days and I told myself if it was still available today I'd by it. Clearly there aren't a lot of Pagans desperate for old reading material around here because there it was today and I bought it. Yippie!
  • Cold Fire by Koontz (Hardback)- a graduation present for my boss' son for graduation- he collects Koontz books and I don't think he has this one
  • The Taking by Koontz (Hardback)- See above comment
  • The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub- Haven't read, but I adore King so I thought I might give it a shot
  • The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood- Other Atwood books are on my "want to read" list... so I thought I might try this one also
  • Coyote by Catherine Reid- Because, well, yeah. I'm me and I think I'd like this
  • Invitation to Camelot by various authors- I'm a sucker for anything Arthurian
  • The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron- See above comment
  • Star Wars by George Lucas- a novelization of the first movie, with pictures. I couldn't resist
  • The General by C.S.Forester- Oohhh. I definitely trust the writer and look forward to this
And the prize of my findings today... drum roll please...
  • Mr.Midshipman Hornblower by C.S.Forester- SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
  • Admiral Hornblower in the West Indies by C.S.Forester (large book, matching the one I already have)- DOUBLE SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who in the world would give this away?!!! LOL

So all that (40 books) for... $14. (I'd pay that much for one Hornblower book alone!)

So that brings my 3 day spending spree total to... (assuming I counted correctly)
73 books and 2 videos for $43 (coming out to about 57 cents per book)
Not bad! Especially as there are so many books I love so much I'd practically sleep with

*tries to get image of Remus having sex with a book (from a fic I once read) out of my head*

Good thing I've been saving up money for this event and I just got my check for Jury Duty in the mail yesterday which covers nearly all of this
tarotgal: (Bookworm Remus)
I stopped by the library on the way to work today. Mangas were all gone *pouts* But I got a few more things (everything was half-priced)

  • Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon- for BookCrossing with (I'm saving up for next April's Tartan Day Challenge already!)
  • Scottish Highlands and Islands guidebook- See comment above ^^
  • Star Wars: The Paradise Snare (Book 1 of Han Solo Trilogy) by A.C. Crispin- because the copy I have is for BookCrossing, and now I can keep one for my own
  • Star Wars: Dark Apprentice by Kevin Anderson- Because it looked good... I'm not really a fan of post-series storylines, but I kept getting drawn to this one so I bought it and shall give it a shot
  • Tae Bo Video- 8 minute workout- Because I didn't have it already and it's definitely worth fifty cents to me! I love Billy!
  • Tae Bo Video- Advanced workout- See comment above ^^
  • Dinatopia Lost by Alan Dean Foster (Hardback)- A BEAUTIFUL novel about Dinatopia. I've read one of the kids books but have always wanted to read them all... and I didn't realize there were thick novels like this, too! And now I own one and can read it whenever- yayness!

On a completely unrelated note... much owness going on. Had the same symptoms last week (I tend to think it's allergies) but I have an ache at the back of my head and in my ears when I swallow. Intense pain, and some sore-throat pain but that's drawfed by the ears & right under/behind the ears. It's crazy. Usually my allergies are horrible but not anything like this (just different). So I dunno what it is *sigh* I'm probably just dying. No big. LOL

Book Sale

May. 4th, 2006 03:43 pm
tarotgal: (Fred the Bibliophiliac)
Gah. Just came back from the book sale at the library. Massive amount of books. I bought a lot... but I've been saving my cash for months for this and I knew I'd buy a lot and... well... I'm happy!

  • Great Book of Hockey (Hardback)- Huge, thick hardback in great condition. Published 1991 but contains TONS of oldtime hockey stuff as well as more recent things. The only hockey reference book I own is a kids book I bought from another library sale last week... but this is for adults ;-)
  • Stunk & White Elements of Style- for my boss who didn't know what a Style Manual was *facepalm* and who desperately needs one!
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Sevenson (Audio Books)- I haven't read either of these but I adore Robert Louis Sevenson and I've always wanted to read both of these. So yay!
  • Kidnapped by Robert Louis Sevenson (2 copies)- For BookCrossing with
  • Witchlight by Marion Zimmer Bradley (Audio Book)- I love MZB's works but hadn't read this one and thought it might be nice to listen to
  • Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells (Audio Book)- I started reading this but gave my copy away to a BookCrossing secret pal so I never finished it. So now I can!
  • The History of the Town of Fairfax (Hardback)- I don't live in Fairfax but I work 30 seconds from it. I thought this would be a very interesting read
  • Dog Stories- a collection of various stories... I bought this for an upcoming BookCrossing Challenge
  • The Dog I.Q. Test- Again, for the BookCrossing challenge, but I thought this would be a lot of fun to do first. We did a simplified version of this once with my old dog and she didn't score well at all :-) But she made up for it in spades in other areas
  • The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle- I've always wanted to read this but never have
  • Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (2 copies)- You can never have too many copies of this book! LOL No, really, I bought these to BookCross with as well
  • Star Wars- The Hutt Gambit by A.C. Crispin- This is Volume 2 of the Han Solo Trilogy. I started reading Volume 1 a few weeks ago
  • Star Wars- Rebel Dawn by A.C. Crispin- This is Volume 3 of the Han Solo Trilogy. I started reading Volume 1 a few weeks ago
  • Return to Oz- It's movie-based and I'll be BookCrossing with it
  • Choose Your Own Adventure- Planet of the Dragons- They had a few Choose Your own Adventure books there, so I only bought one. Now I have a collection of three in total :-) I just loved these as a kid
  • Eragon by Christopher Paolini (Hardback)- I've been dying to read this book and its sequel and I thought it was fantastic fate to find a hardback version just sitting there waiting for me to love it :-) Whoohoo! Think I might start on it as soon as I'm done with the Angel book I'm reading right now
  • British/American Language Dictionary (Passport Books)- I use two different online dictionaries when I write fics set in the UK and now I don't have to be online in order to look something up!!! Whoohoo! What really sold me on this copy was the illustration at the end explaining the proper way to flip someone off. How useful! LOL
  • British Phrasebook (Lonely Planet)- Yes, I bought TWO British/American books but this one was tiny and sooo cute! With pictures and everything divided up into categories like brand names, household items, time/dates, education, music, food, etc. And this one has loads of cute cartoon pictures as well. I couldn't choose between the two so I bought them both.
  • Webster's Pocket Medical & First Aid Dictionary-- Because I don't have a medical reference or first aid book and you KNOW it'll come in handy when writing (now I don't have to keep borrowing the family's)
  • The Vision of Escaflowne Vol 1 (Manga)- I honestly haven't seen the anime but it's on my list and it's volume 1 so I couldn't resist (I passed up a couple InuYasha ones I might get if they're still there on Sat)
  • Fantastic Four Vol 1- Awww! I just had to, you know?
  • X/1999 Duet (Vol 6) (Manga)- Whoohoo! I bought Volume #5 a while ago at a library book sale and now I have #6. Slowly, I shall acquire them all!
  • The Man from UNCLE- The Mad Scientist Affair- I bought a copy of this from the used bookstore a few months ago and just finished reading it a few weeks ago. It's the only Man from UNCLE book I've ever read and the only one they had there! I planned to BookCross with the first one so I can keep this one forever and ever for myself and drool over the sexy agents :-)
  • The House at Pooh Corner- I ADORE this book and (though I listened to it on tape at LEAST 50 times as a kid) I've never owned a copy. And now I do. Whoohoo! They actually had two copies with different covers... I had a hard time choosing
  • Why You Should Never Beam Down in a Red Shirt- Looked like a fun Star Trek Quiz Book! heehee
  • Buffy tvs- The Watcher's Guide (Golden & Holder)- I very nearly bought this in the bookstore back when I was waiting for my copy of HP:HBP for a few hours. But I didn't have the money to throw around and OMG there it was today for $1!! So excited!

So... all this for $25. I was VERY pleased. I'm hoping there will still be some manga left when I stop by after work tomorrow. And/or when I pop by on Saturday (last day of the sale). There were a few books I promised myself only to buy on the last day (when everything's, like $0.50-$0.25). But I'm veeeeeeery happy now. Wish there'd been some Jedi Apprentice books but, hey, I think I did all right for myself!
