I'm still working on writing some of the giftfics. I'm planning on posting one every few days to give myself a bit of a buffer and to also allow myself to deal with some personal thing.

For example, the fact that the thing that heats my house is not currently doing its job. I am bundled up in a hat and coat and thermal underwear and gloves and I have a purring cat on my lap with a blanket over both of us. Hoping the repairman who comes over on Thursday can fix it then.

Until, then, it will be cold and typing will go more slowly than normal. But my parents did get me a full-sized keyboard for Christmas (YAY), so that should help.

comments

Just wanted to give y'all an update on fics!

There have been 10 prompts submitted so far, which means there's room for 2 more.

I've finished 4 and have one more in progress. Not great progress, but not too bad either. I'm having an absolute blast writing them, though. Thanks for the great prompts :-)

I had to put writing on pause because I'm in the middle of a week-long Queer Lit challenge. Tomorrow's the last day, and I've only finished reading 5 of the 16 books. There's no way I'll be able to get blackout bingo tomorrow, but I'm hoping for at least one bingo and 2 or 3 more finished by the end of the day tomorrow. Fingers crossed! Then I can start holiday decorating and prepping for an upcoming party I'm hosting at church and get back into writing.

comments

I am struggling with my NaNoWriMo novel. I should have done some planning instead of trying to pants my way through a complicated plot. But I need to make that wordcount for the month, which means I'm opening up holiday fic requests now!

Please keep in mind that I'm STILL behind on Supernatural, so no spoilers in your prompts for anything recent, please. Scoobynatural was the last episode I watched.

So what do you need to do?
Be one of the first 12 to post a reply to this post on my DW journal! Fill out this form with what you'd like--
Fandom(or OC):
Characters and/or Pairings:
Sneezing specifications (which character/characters you want sneezing, illness/allergies, etc.):
Rating/Range of Ratings:
What DO you want to see (be as brief or detailed as you like):
What do you NOT want to see (squicks, pairings, etc.):

Limitations:
It's got to be original character fic or a fandom I'm really familiar with. I can't do really obscure things that require research & extensive source material reviewing because I won't have time for that. I can't do elaborate situations either if I'm writing one for every day. So keep your requests short and sweet (but as specific as you want within that scope). Again, please don't expect brilliance from me :-) If I reply and say I just can't write what you want and I need you to pick something else, you won't lose your "spot." But you should suggest something else within a reasonable period of time so I can get it written.

Fandoms I'll Write:
Any fandom I've written for before is technically fair game, but I can tell you right now I'm going to struggle to write another fic in a couple of those fandoms. And I can assure you that if you request something slashy in one of my major fandoms (or Strokes) I will LOVE you for making it easy on me. Feel free to ask if I know a particular fandom. You can also check out the fandoms mentioned in my tags for fandoms I've written most recently. I've also written some stories with anthro animal characters, so the sort of story you'd read on sneezefurs is on the table, too.
I'll also let you know that I've been binging Critical Role (campaigns 1 & 2- but I'm only up to episode 43 in campaign 2) and Wildcards: ETU, so I could tackle either of those.

Other Notes:
Because I've been asked this before, I'll answer it here before someone asks again: yes, lurkers are more than welcome to request (you can post with your name or anonymously; I don't mind, that's why I allow anon posting on my journal).

Please help me meet my writing goal this month and submit a request!

comments

I just logged in here to renew my paid account and couldn't remember the last time I posted. So much has been going on in my life I always felt the need to recap and the inability to do so. So I'm starting fresh. LOL

I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary at my new job. Hard to believe it has been a year already, but I lost the ability to know how time works. I'm still working 3 part-part time jobs at the same time, so I have precious little free time these days.

However, I've had a couple SF story ideas popping into my mind lately. So I might do some writing during July's Camp Nano. But I also really want to work on digital versions of my three Strokes books. So I might work on that as well or instead. And I have a TON of LEGO things I need to build before the month is halfway through. So we'll see.

Things about me right now:
- Currently obsessed with squishmallows 'cause HUGS!
- Just read 30 LGBTQ+ books during Pride month. SO many good ones--especially Loveless. Such great Ace/Aro rep!
- I helped host my church's first Pride celebration this month (we called it a celetest--celebration and protest together). It went really well, even though I was overheated and exhausted afterward
- I'm helping lead my church's annual study topic on gender this upcoming year, focusing on trans* and non-binary issues, pronouns, advocacy, etc. I made a whole merit badge-meets study guide for everyone to fill out as we go along. Should be a lot of fun and a lot of learning!
- All my jobs are going well, but I've been spending money on fun things after a year of not being able to buy anything fun (see above re: Squishmallows). I just bought myself two blank sticker books so I can organize my sticker collection.
- I'm behind on everything--shows, MCU movies, etc. But I did come across spectacularly sweet Our Flag Means Death fanart at a con that had a strong hurt/comfort vibe. I went home and binged 7 episodes then went back to the con the next day and bought the art. OFMD is so wonderful.
- I did go to a fannish con, though I still double-mask and quarantine/wipe down anything coming into my home. I drove there and ate in my car instead of in the building, so I was as safe as I could be. I did take my mask off once in the bathroom right after Wil Wheaton's session because I cried so hard during it I soaked my masks and had to put on two fresh new ones. It was a treat to get to see Sylvester McCoy, Charisma Carpenter, Amber Benson, Anthony Daniels, Wil Wheaton, and Sean Astin in person. But my favorite session was probably with Star Trek's gay space dads and former RENT stars Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz. They were a delight!
- I got to 2 full years of fake travelling from home to a different country every month. I think I might give myself a little break before resuming.
- Thanks to COVID tests and my continuing paranoia/over-abundance of caution(did I mention I still double-mask outside?), I got to spend some time in person with my parents for Mother's Day and Father's Day. Sister and brother-in-law and my newphewdog came for a visit last month, and I got to spend a day with them as well. Was so nice being with family in person, not just Zoom.
- My Charlie cat has an inflatable cone on right now because of a spot she keeps licking her fur off of. She's on steroids for another few days, and then I'll see how she is when the cone comes off.

That's about it that's on my mind at the moment. Hope you're all doing well and staying safe!

comments

No clue what I had in mind then, but this is what fell out last month. I got a little carried away with building this world out in my head. Not sure where it came from, but it was a lot of fun to play around with these characters and jump into the middle of a quest-in-progress.
Just because I want to have a record of this passage before I return the book to the library tonight:

"Let's make a big breakfast this morning, what do you say? Eggs and toast and pancakes and..."

"Orange juice," Langston coughed. "Please, Lily. Go to the corner store and get us some fresh orange juice."

Benny, too, coughed. "And some echinacea!"

"Sleeping outside in the dead of winter not such a smart idea, huh?" I said.

"Seemed romantic under the stars last night," Langston sighed. Then sneezed. Again. And again, this time with a full on hacking cough. "Make us some soup, please please please, Lily Bear?"

It seemed to me that, in allowing himself to get sick, my brother had finally, and totally, ruined Christmas. All hope for my semblance of a decent Christmas was now gone. It further seemed to me, since he made the choice to sleep outside with his boyfriend last night instead of playing Boggle with his Lily Bear as she specifically asked him to do and which she specifically used to do for him during his time of need, that Langston sicko would have to deal with this crisis on his own.

"Make your own soup," I told the boys. "And get your own OJ. I have an errand to run in Midtown." I turned to go back inside and leave the boys to their nasty new colds. Suckahs.

From Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan

comments

Mostly, I discussed how I was stuck at first, so I used a few lines from the book itself as my jumping off point and reread the source material a few times to get a good feel of the characters. I hope you like where I went with them!

Day 6 Story

All Stories

comments

It takes place almost immediately after "That One Conference" and overlaps with "A Hundred Different Troys" though we don't see Troy in this story at all. The focus is all on David and Lucas and the cold Lucas caught from Troy. And even though the summary implies a bit of angst, I promise there's a HEA. I actually wrote the first half of a story that is set soon after this fic, and realized a few weeks ago that something in this story completely negates that story. After weeks of indecision about which version wins out, I've decided to go with this one. I'll have to do some serious editing and reimagining of a scene in the unfinished story, but I've made peace with that. Anyway, I hope you like this! It is always such a treat to write these guys.

Day 5 Story

All Stories

comments

But some things are even better than exciting.
Notes: Written during my 12 Ficlets in 12 Days in 2020-21 project project for Anonymous

This is set in the USA in the late 1950s. I tried to find a way to mention that early on, but the boys just didn't want to stop lusting after each other long enough for proper exposition and scene setting. The setting isn't exactly important anyway. This was a joy to write. I had the beginning in my head for months, but when I went to write it down, it didn't come out exactly as I'd hoped. I still think I managed to do them justice. Enjoy!

Day 4 Story

All Stories

comments

Hi all! It's been a really rocky year for me. I wasn't in the greatest mental state after losing my job and being unemployed for 11 months and being cut off from friends and family during the pandemic. But I made it through alive, thanks to my friends and family who made sure I could pay the mortgage and dropped off groceries for me so I could eat. I've got 4 jobs now (one full-time and 3 part-part-time), which doesn't leave me a lot of time to do fun things, as you might imagine. But I am also in need of a lot of downtime around so much work, so I've had to do a lot of juggling to stay sane and happy.

I haven't felt super creative all year. For the first time ever, I didn't finish Camp NaNo in July, even though I set a low goal for myself. I'm running the risk of not finishing proper NaNoWriMo this month (I'm at 34,000+ words with only 2 days left, which means about 8,000 words a day). I'm giving it my all and keeping my fingers crossed that I'll somehow manage to pull out a win.

For NaNo this year, I decided to try to finally knock out as many of the holiday giftfic requests as possible remaining from the 2020-2021 season. At the beginning of the year, out of 12 requests, I had 2 posted, 1 other finished, and 2 others started. Despite trying to work on them all year, that was also where I was at the beginning of November. Yikes. But now I've got the same 2 posted, 9 finished, and the final 1 started. I'm hoping to finish that one today (tomorrow at the latest). So I'll start posting the stories leading up to Christmas (likely starting on December 15).

I know they are a whole year late. I know the thing you requested might not be what you're into any more. And I am so very sorry for taking so long and letting you down. I have been filled with guilt and shame about it all year. But I hope at least one of the fics will be something you'll enjoy.

That being said, I'm a little burned out regarding fic requests and I don't want to over-commit myself after this debacle. So I'm going to be taking this year off in the gift fic-writing department. I'm so sorry if this news is disappointing to anyone who was hoping to submit a request this year. Please hold onto it and keep it safe until next holiday season when I will be open again for requests. Thanks for understanding! And sorry, again, for taking so long with your precious plot bunnies. They were wonderful; I just wasn't in the right mindset to do them justice.

comments

New Strokes Book: Five Golden Rings

It's been exactly 20 years since I first started writing this series, and to celebrate I decided to create another collection of stories.

After many, many, many years of promising Sweetie and Jamie that I would write their wedding, it finally happened!

In Five Golden Rings, we see their engagement, their wedding planning, their combined bachelor party, their wedding, and their honeymoon. We also learn a lot of secrets that I've been holding in about the boys for this whole time. We find out what that room of computers in the house is for. We find out Nik's real name. And we learn more about Sweetie's and Nik's birth families. We also get: Jamie's sisters fussing over him, Ace singing karaoke, Jamie's teammates seeing where he lives, and the housemates giving them multiple surprises on their special day.

It's currently only available in paperback, but when I have more time, I'm hoping to get the eBook version in shape and published. I re-edited Seven Strokes of Sin as well (haven't republished the eBook yet) so that the cover styles and spines match for the series.

I hope that you enjoy it!

Buy the Book

And, yes, I'm publishing the collections out of order, though I do hope to have a collection of 1 to 10 one day. I'm actually working on the collection of Quarantine stories right now (set during spring and summer of 2020) and that's a collection of 30 stories. So, who knows? Maybe one day I'll have 1 through 30? I'm actually on the second round of editing of those stories and had hoped to have it done this spring, but editing is taking longer than I'd hoped after I attended a four-week editing workshop and picked up some new skills in the area. So I'm planning to get it done later this year.

comments

Status update from me. It's been so long; sorry about that.

I'm still writing, though mostly in Strokes (update on that in my next post). I have done some work on holiday giftfics, which are LONG OVERDUE, and I feel terrible about that. But I promise I haven't forgotten or abandoned them.

I've been struggling a lot since I lost my job last year, and I went through a few months of pretty serious depression. I went on some new medicine a couple weeks ago for it (yay) and had a really bad reaction to it (damn it), so I'm off it again. Sigh. I got my second shot, but I'm still really nervous about being with people, and my two weeks have only been up for a couple days. I'm really looking forward to being with friends and family again, because it's just been me and my two cats for a year and 3 months, I just don't know what my comfort level is yet.

I've procrastinated on cleaning all this month, so I'm trying to squeeze as much of it as I can during today and tomorrow. Oops.

I've been doing write-ins online, though mostly focusing on blog work. It's not making me much money yet, but I'm enjoying it.

That's about it, really. Just trying to hang on.

HUGS to you all.

comments

Yesterday I accidentally on purpose made a Redbubble store. I was playing around with the idea for my new blog, and instead of doing something with it, I made a store with products about my fictional characters here.

I had way too much fun with it. So if you suddenly can't live without a pillow or tote with Troy's polycule on it, or a water bottle or duffle bag with Troy's gym's logo on it, or a zippered pouch that serves as David's first aid kit, you're in luck!

tg's Realm Shop

comments
