There, that should do it. OK, so, I'm working on a Pirates fic- it's short, don't get your hopes up too high! And I'm currently trying to sort out sleeping arrangements. My GUESS is that Will and Jack would sleep in the aft cabin, as they were the ones who organized the whole mission, rather than in the forecastle with the rest of the crew. I was just wondering- at the beginning of their trip on the Interceptor, is Jack technically the captain? I know he gives orders and navigates and steers... but he also sort of promised the ship to Anamarie. And I'm also assuming Gibbs is the first mate? So... at the beginning of their journey, who's technically the captain? And do you think it's at all out of character/rank to have Will sleep away from the rest of the crew? He's not really heavy crew, in my opinion... so it makes sense for me to throw him into one of the quarter-berth bunks in the aft cabin rather than in where the rest of the crew sleeps...
You KNOW it's sad when your research for a fic takes more time than the story itself! If I look at one more ship diagram or log... LOL!
Any strong thoughts? And anyone know who the "actual" captain is? (I'm leaning towards Jack... but I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking)
Thanks!!!

POTC questions
Date: 2003-07-16 03:37 pm (UTC)As for the sleeping arrangements, it's a British ship, so I'm gonna assume it has a nice room for the captain, some pretty decent rooms for officers and important passengers (so I guess Will can stay there.) I expect that all parties on board would be more comfortable if Will and the pirates didn't mingle too much, especially early on.
I can't wait to read your fic!
Re: POTC questions
Date: 2003-07-16 04:02 pm (UTC)Point is, THANK YOU for agreeing about Jack as captain. I feel much better now since my thoughts were much along the lines of yours. Unless I hear otherwise, I'm just going to go with that, beause it really does seem the most logical considering he was the one giving orders and all that. And as such, I'm throwing him into the captain's cabin :-)
And that's a wonderful comment about Will and the pirate crew. I can see him being completely miserably staying with them... and the pirates not much better off for that either. So it makes sense as well to shove him into one of the quarter-berths in the aft cabin as well. Thanks for some reassurance on my reasoning, though! :-)
