R.I.P. Maxwell Demon Kitty
Aug. 26th, 2013 06:54 pmI just got back from putting Maxwell to sleep. My poor baby. He gave me 12 wonderful years and I'm so lucky he chose me to be his mommy back when I was in college. He could have chosen any apartment to take shelter in during the rain, but he chose mine and I'm so grateful for all that he taught me and shared with me. And I'm glad now that he's no longer sick and miserable. Also glad he got to live with me in my new house for so long (i.e. HIS new house).
Here's the last photo I took of him, all relaxed and stretched out and purring with his favorite mousey toy. I am so lucky I got to say goodbye to him. I sang him some Velvet Goldmine songs and told him how much I loved him and got to remember all the wonderful times. I'm so glad I was able to do that and that he and I got to share our memories and some chin rubs together before he went.

I'm kind of a mess, but I have absolutely no question in my mind that it was the right thing to do and the right time. I just miss him already.
I'm glad I caught you on my view screen, sailor
You're the grand one
Come and court me
'Cause this booing is one of mourning
When my spacesuit comes to warm me
And hold me like girl
I am the captain of your gravity, Maxwell
Everywhere I see your face
