Lately...
1. Conference went... okay. It was the conference where a hundred little things went wrong rather than one big thing. Many of the things would have frustrated me, once upon a time, but I'm learning not to take other people's incompetance as a personal failing of mine. I did my job to the best of my ability and put in 10-14 hours of work a day. I stayed in my very first hotel suite all by myself--two separate balconies with the river right beneath.
2. My boss was dismissed from the organization the day after the conference after working there for 30 years. We're all still in shock and currently rudderless. We hear that we're getting an interim executive director in about a week as the search for a new ED will take 6-8 months or more.
3. Apart from having to spend the first 2 hours of my vacation locking my former boss out of his email account and our computer systems and being on two conference calls in the middle of Disney parks, my vacation was excellent. 1 and a half days in the Wizarding World(s) of Harry Potter were definitely a high point; I literally cried as I walked out of the park again this time. I wish I could live there. I had such a magical time; even got to sit on Sirius Black's motorbike! I had 2 and a half days at Disney and managed to pack in Epcott twice, Hollywood Studios (did ALL the Star Wars there was to do!), Disney Springs, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Lots of wonderful moments packing as much as I could into the short time I was there. After more than 18 years, I finally got to see the giant LEGO sculptures. After more than 23 years, I finally got the Mickey Mouse sweatshirt I've wanted. I also got some really fun photos of Morgan bear.
4. Trying to get books registered for the April book festival.
5. Trying to get fics written for people!
6. Failing at #4 and #5 and, instead, watching (listening to) a lot of Saving Throw RPG campaigns. The Star Wars prequel mashup with Harry Potter was SUCH a hoot! And Back to Alderaan was amazing--just when I thought Star Wars couldn't get better, we have Star Wars WITH TIME TRAVEL. Seriously awesome.
7. AwesomeCon is this weekend. I hadn't been planning to go, but John Boyega's going to be there. Really excited about the Star Wars props and things that will be on display in the backlot, also. If it's even half as neat as the Marvel Museum in last year's backlot, I'll be in heaven. Not as many slash or LGBTQ panels this time around, though. I'm a little disappointed about that. But I'm sure I'll have a good time. Yesterday I found some meatless jerky. No idea how it tastes, but I'm going to give it a try. Still have to figure out my schedule.
8. I haven't been working out as much as I should be, but I'm sticking to my new diet. I've lost a little more than 20 pounds since January 15. I've got another 23 pounds before I hit my goal (and technically 5 to 10 more pounds after that before I'm supposed to be the right weight for my height). But my pants are falling off me even with the belt and my ankles look like they're supposed to look again. I feel a lot healthier as well. So I'm very, very proud of myself. I did allow myself a frozen Butterbeer when I was in the Wizarding World and allowed myself vegetable sushi one night during the conference. But otherwise, I've been very good about what I've been eating.
9. I'm still planning on running an April meme. Not sure when it'll start, but probably sometime during the first week of April, after I get some current fics finished, as those are highest priority.
10. I love my cats. They're both such characters. But they're doing well on the new food. And Charlie's been okay since putting her on the new medicine. She had a congestion episode earlier today, but it passed. She's been super snuggly lately, especially at night. She always wants to be under the covers with me. And Ozma will sometimes burst into purring if I just look at her, as she's excited about the petting I could potentially be giving her. They're cuties. I'm catsitting for
melydia for two days right now, which means I get to pet five different cats each day. heehee What more could I want?
