As close to good times as it gets for me. Still no job, but hanging in there.
I just finished another watch party of The Old Guard with the group from ConfabCon this time. My love for that movie is undying, pun intended. I love watching it with people who've never seen it before, too! Watching the magic take hold and seeing that moment where they're like "Ohhhhhh. So THIS is why y'all have been gushing over this!" I had to pop out near the beginning to Zoom with my family for 40 minutes, but I got back JUST in time for the Nicky/Joe "not my boyfriend" speech in the van. Great timing, me.
Confabulation Con was amazing, as well. Panels on Legal Principles in Star Trek, the Murder Family (see above!), Fannish Pictionary (my first time finally making it to that session!), Crafting for Fandom, Incest, and much more. I did 5 volunteer shifts and lived on Discord and Zoom simultaneously for 3 days straight. So good being with slash fans and being able to stay at home in my pjs the whole time!
National Novel Writing Month is going well. Today I finished the first half of the book! I have very little planned for the second half, so I'm a little bit worried at this point. But I'm trying to follow a beat sheet, and maybe that will help. I've got three scenes in mind and then... um... something happens for a few chapters... and then my characters realize they're right for each other and happily ever after! So I just need to figure out that middle bit. No problem! LOL I'm writing the backstory of how Troy meets and shacks up with Johnny and Mick. I love these guys so much, and it's been fun to get to know them as more than just the two guys in Troy's menage.
This is going to be an interesting week. I'm behind on The Mandalorian by 2 eps and behind on Discovery by 3. I've got a book club book to finish by Thursday (I just finished the book club book for Tuesday) and some small groups homework to do by Wednesda eveningy. Charlie cat needs to go to the vet for her annual, and I have another terrible and expensive dentist appointment on Wednesday morning that will not be covered by my insurance. Oh, and I just volunteered to write 90 postcards to folks in Georgia regarding the runoff elections.
Today my church group put on an LGBTQ+ service. We've been planning it for 3 months now, and it went even better than we'd hoped. The two run throughs were kind of a mess, so I guess that thing they say about bad dress rehearsals leading to great productions was true in our case. I did the Time for All Ages section and taught kids/adults the colors in the rainbow pride flag :-) And then we had a great Q&A afterward where I answered questios like "what does 'cis' mean?" and "why do people insist on using labels?" and I oh-so-casually came out to everyone. LOL It was a good event. Super proud of everyone who worked hard to make it.
At some point soon, I'm planning a "travel from home" trip to Japan, so that will be fun. And I've already got food for myself for Thanksgiving. I don't really like a lot of traditional foods, so having a solo Thanksgiving for the first time in my life is my chance to buy what I like. I'm probably going to make a pie or two using the ceramic pie dish my dad made me. That'll make me feel closer to him. And my parents and I will probably eat over Zoom together. So weird being in the same zip code and not being able to be with them this time of year. I miss hugs. Thank goodness for my cats!
Lots of crummy moments as well, but it's nice that when I look back, it's the happy times that stand out. I'm blocking out my terrible experience of it taking an hour and a half to get Panera curbside pickup on Friday. Grrrrrrrrr!
I feel like I need an Old Guard user icon now. Or two.
