Oh my gods....
Sep. 4th, 2003 03:48 pmI just finished Weiss Kreuz Gluhen
Oh my gods... why the heck did I watch that last episode?! *cries*
Youji- ok, I actually called that, and I KNOW he's happy
And Omi... ugh... baby...
But Aya... breaks my heart!
And Ken! *sob* OK, so Ken I can sort of handle... there's good and bad... and Aya's phone call and donation were sweet but UGH! What were they thinking ending it this way?
*sniffles*
I miss the Velvet Underworld days. I really do
Think I might have to go watch the OVA to shake this icky feeling now LMAO
It was good, don't get me wrong... and Ken's looking up to Aya was adorable. And Omi's comforting of Ken was to die for- especially in the second to last episode. Oh, and Ken's sudden turnaround where Sena's concerned was very nice to see, also. Ohhh and the Aya/Youji bits were fantastic.
It's just that last episode. No. Didn't really like that. Thanks, though.
It just breaks my heart. Gah! Why do all the anime series I end up hooked on end either too quickly or poorly? *sigh* Might have to write some GOOD Weiss fic to forget that ending now... *sob*

Date: 2003-09-09 02:10 am (UTC)But don't be too sad -- they've continued the series (kind-of) in a fairly hard-to-find manga called Weiss Side B (I had to dig for it when I went to Otakon, and I haven't seen it for sale at any US-based manga retailers as of yet). So far, only two of the boys show up as primary characters... You can find a translation of the first four chapters here:

And then there's scans and some translations here:

The art in it is lovely, but, unfortunately, doesn't do much to perpetuate the sweetness of Ken/Omi. :)

Date: 2003-09-09 08:03 pm (UTC)Technically, everyone had at least a glimmer of happiness at the end except for Omi. I still don't quite understand why he finally decided to go with his family at the end... apart from wanting to be sure justice was done and to be sure the Weiss boys were taken care of and not hurt(which, um, it doesn't look like he did a great job of) I really thought I knew Omi better than to be as cold as he was at the end.
But honestly, I think I'm denying that episode 13 ever happened. I don't think I'll watch it again ever, really. But apart from that episode, I really enjoyed Gluhen more than I thought I would. Even if the new characters and absence of Ken and Yohji at the beginning were confusing to me. Though Aya with a lack of sister-angst was certainly a nice Aya to get to know.
I adored the Ken/Omi moments from episode 10 onward. I loved the kidney bit *G* Cute tough boy *snuggles* Though the Ken/Aya vibes were oddly strong. And I suppose would continue to be somewhat if they're the two Side B continues with?

Date: 2003-09-09 11:08 pm (UTC)As for Omi's coldness at the end of episode 13... I don't think it was done out of malice or true coldness. It was simply the front that he had to put up for Knight, to maintain a strong, uncaring visage. But if you look at his actions beyond the front, Omi is still far from cold. He protects Ken and his sanity (It's hinted that Omi used his influence to let Ken stay at the prison as long as he needed), and he denies one of the up-and-coming members of Weiss the role as leader to keep him from following the same path as Aya. The question now, IMO, is whether or not Omi will ultimately be consumed by the role he must fulfill.
Wow, rant... Sorry! :) But yeah, the ending was very sad, that I'll agree with... I do have hope, though, that something will continue beyond the Aya and Ken bits in Weiss Side B. And there's always fanfiction!

Date: 2003-09-11 05:20 am (UTC)Thanks for your thoughts on end-of-Gluhen Omi. Not at all a rant :-) That makes much more sense in my head, the way you explain it. And yes, I also thought it was mostly a cold facade as far as Knight was concerned. But I must admit his reaction in the car and such were much colder than I would have expected. But then again, he really has grown up... it's not cry-at-the-drop-of-a-hat Omi any longer. *sniffles* I still miss the old days.
