Okay... so I'm trying to check myself on this... and hoping I didn't make a mistake... so I'm going to write this all out for my own use later. Though if anyone spots a calculation error, let me know :-)

According to Middle Earth Scale maps Emyn Arnen is about 10 leagues from Minas Tirith. And as a league is 3 nautical miles(6,080ft in a Nautical mile)... that means each league is 6,080 feet x 3= 18,240 feet or 3.4545 miles (5,280ft in a mile).
So Emyn Arnen is roughly 34.55 miles from Minas Tirith. Horses can run up to 30 miles an hour(40 if you're very lucky) but not for long distances. So it's maybe, what, 2 hours away in bad weather at the most, considering the need to cross the river as well?

As for Helm's Deep, it's about 140 leagues from Minas Tirith. Which equates to 483.6363 miles. Which is a heck of a long way to go by foot. And, I dunno, 24-32 hours by horseback at a quick-average pace?
Anyone happen to know off the top of their head how long the journey from Edoras to Minas Tirith was in the book without the stops and resting periods and battles along the way?

I'm thinking of being un-canon-like and creating a nifty passage through the White Mountains starting at the Glittering Caves and coming out somewhere much closer to Minas Tirith... except that you wouldn't be able to travel as fast underground as you would above ground(on a horse)... but I could swing my story's timelines so that Gimli leaves on foot earlier through the underground passage and meets up with Legolas on horseback later so it doesn't seem like quite as long a ride... Gah... this is much too complicated. LOL Why can't they just aparate and disaparate? Would make things much easier for me...

Another Friday Fic. This one is Lord of the Rings because ever since I read the challenge fics I've been dying to write a sleeping Aragorn story, as that image keeps popping into my mind whenever I try to write anything else. Anyway, sorry for not having a lot of sneezing in this... there is certainly some though. The bits of dialogue and me going on and on about the snow seems to have overwhelmed the sneezing.

Title: Changing
Author: tarotgal
Fandom: Lord of the Rings (set after RotK)
Rating: PG (if that)
Pairings: Gimli/Legolas, Aragorn/Legolas-past implied
Disclaimer: There’s no way I could claim any rights to these characters and their universe or gather any income from this
Summary: With Gimli away, Legolas is slightly bored and his wanderings take him to Aragorn, who he had assumed was unavailable in a meeting. The truth of the matter, however, is much different and unexpected.
Notes: My third ‘Friday Fic’. I hadn’t meant it to end quite as… down as it did. I suppose it depends on your pairing preferences, though. And, given my way of seeing the LotR relationships, it had to happen as it does here. It’s just not… well, not a particularly upbeat ending from some standpoints.

Scarf!

Got my pretty Hufflepuff scarf in the mail today! Ooohhh it's so warm and soft to the touch (not like the wool scarf I've been using though I do love it as well) Anyway, happy I am!

I'm going to try and update TG's Realm tonight. I want to record wavs from Monk tonight(when I finish taping To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar), but otherwise the site's all done and ready for an update.

Must go out and move my laundry from washer to dryer now. They raised the price of our dryer from $0.75 to $1.00 a couple of months ago. Which means it's $2.00 for every load, which is horrid. I remember years ago when I was living in the dorms it was only $1.50 each load. Ug... it's snowing out. Fun fun, doing laundry in the snow. The worst is just now- taking the wet clothes from the washer and putting in the dryer. It's 31degrees, and I'm hangling wet things. My hands are freeeeeezing! Maybe they should think about getting a heater for the laundry room so it's not outside temperature in there... ow... hands... LOL Yeah, SO much easier back when I was in the dorms. No need to go outside to do laundry then! :-)

Miricle

Just came back from seeing Miricle. Hands are frozen, but apart from that, I had an excellent time. Wonderful movie- and I made it all the way to the end without crying, though there were a NUMBER of times I just wanted to jump in and hug the tough hockey players- they were perfect. *sigh* And certainly emphasizes the fact that I'm a sucker for goalies. Really, a fantastic movie. There's no doubt in my mind that hockey's the best sport in the world now, hands down. *sigh* Good movie. Very good movie. I'm going to go get my hands warm now.
