everything (sick, virus, family, fun)
Sep. 3rd, 2004 01:46 amBah. RL is busy.
My comp has been acting badly. Takes me 10 minutes to open up a program or delete an e-mail (comp locks up/freezes). Word and other programs wouldn't even open (which made writing very difficult!) So yesterday I finally discovered it was a program using up 95%-100% of my CPU cycles. From doing some searches, I determined it was a virus and stopped it from running. Then everything was nice and FAST! YAY!! I ran my virus checker (which couldn't run before because the comp was too slow) and it found nothing. So today I found out it's not a virus so much as one of those "extra" programs that come when you download something. In this case, it was with Real Player. Grr. So I found out how to stop it from starting every time I reboot. I haven't rebooted yet, but I'm hopeful that took care of it. It's SO nice to be able to use my computer again! YAY! *pets it*
I've been sneezing & stuffed up since yesterday afternoon. I don't know if it's a small cold or allergies. My throat feels fine. I'm horribly tired and have a sinus headache. Weeds in our area just came up on the pollen radar yesterday so it's probably not a coincidence that I started getting bad yesterday. But it could just be a cold since with my allergies my throat ALWAYS itches horribly and I don't have that now. I dunno. I just feel icky and tired. Took a 4 hour nap today and still feel blah.
Went to the National Zoo with fam yesterday. Saw the pandas twice. The female sleeps a lot. Saw a family of gorillas that was absolutely fascinating to watch. We watched them for at least a half an hour before moving on. A silver-back daddy, a mommy (still nursing), a 5-year old boy and a 2 year-old boy I think it was. Anyway, they were fascinating to watch.
Also saw the Sirius Coffee shop as we were trying to find our way back to Virginia afterwards. YAY!!!
Aunts and Cousin left today. I am sad. But we made a pact to get together for a week every summer from now on as a tradition. It was a great visit. Watched a few movies, did the Zoo and drove around DC(inadvertantly as we tried to get home), visited the Manassass battle field, visited Gettysburg (can you tell my aunt has a thing for the Civil War? heehee), spent a whole day at two malls, played with the aminals, and talked a lot. It was a great time.
I've been walking a neighbor's dog every morning. The neighbors are getting up there in age (which is sad to say as they're only a little older than my parents) and their health is preventing them from walking the pup. They insisted on paying but I insisted on no more than $3 a day :-) Next week I'll be driving them up to Johns Hopkins for tests (as their injuries/health prevents them from driving). I'm a little worried about the driving but I'm motivated by the promise of a hospital cafeteria lunch. I love hospital cafeteria food. I *SO* miss that part of candy striping! Of course, the employee discount back then was part of it, but I really did love the food.
I watched 3 hours of Angel tonight. The ep where Fred's prof is murdered, the one where they regress mentally to their teenage selves, and the one where the big horned guy rises out from the flames and they don't seem to be much of a match for it.
The teenaged gang one was the first episode I ever really saw and is probably responsible for my actually wanting to see the whole series in the first place. It's definitely my favorite episode ever, and it was GREAT to finally see it now that I know all the characters better (I'd figured out Wes since I knew Giles, and I knew Angel and Cordy was pretty easy... but that was defintitely a strange episode to see as my first. Yet I don't remember being very confused. I'm sure I understood it much more this time around though!). Anyway, that was thrilling for me!
So, yeah. That's about it. Oh, and Bush in an ass. I *so* disagree with almost everything he said. I cannot even stand to think of another 4 years with him representing and leading this country. I swear I'll move to Canada or France or something.
