Weekend in review

This weekend's To Do List: http://listography.com/action/list?lid=6937101213
I'm caught up on my Kakuro-a-day puzzles still. I'm getting a little better at them, too. The style is a little different from the one in my Sunday paper. It's very interesting and lots of fun :-)
I've been working on SF Challenge fics this weekend. I've finished two so far, started another short one, and have one more in mind. I haven't worked on any giftfics, but I hope to get back to them tomorrow.
I went to work at my old work yesterday, working on paperwork, 4th quarter taxes (NOTHING got done when I was gone so we had some sales & use tax late fees to pay- grrr) and annual taxes. Lots of frustration, but I worked hard and got a lot done in 4 hours.
I went to the dollar store on Friday to get some candy for a carepackage and also bought myself a "Finger Hockey" game. Squee! Comes with a little goal and goalie and sticks and pucks. I couldn't resist.
I dropped my car off at the station on Friday and got it back Saturday. Got the oil changed- yay. Also was told my belts need replacing, as do the bolts/caps on my front axle, both right and left sides. Altogether, about $1000 in parts and labor. *sigh* Thank goodness I get paid in about a week.
The Caps did an AWESOME job last night. They're healthier and stronger now. And we battled hard and won in OT. It was Ollie Kolzig night on Saturday- they honored him for his charity work, including the Autism foundation he helped found. They also presented him with the King Clancy Memorial Trophy he won in June. He had a great night, even after getting hit with a skate on his back and couldn't get up for a LONG time. We were all terrified, and Johnny was actually getting warmed up on the bench. But he was okay, stopped a penalty shot, and finished the game. This makes 2 wins in a row for us, after too many losses in a row.
Found out that my aunt and uncle have officially disowned my cousin. His temper is out of control, and the drinking and drugs probably aren't helping. He's been lying and skipping work (got fired from one job he was doing sooooooo well at, and told us all he quit). He smashed windows in his apartment after his ferret got loose but was found. My aunt and uncle have done so much for the kid- I don't want to get into the whole thing- but he doesn't want to be helped and maybe realizing that he's not going to get their money any more will make him realize he has a problem. Or he'll end up in jail.
And then, Aunt & Uncle's new puppy nearly died. Had to rush him to the vet hospital where they pumped him full of fluids. He had an infection from eating something (i.e. another dog's poop) and isn't doing well but is expected to make a full recovery.
Today I watched Snakes on a Plane. Whoa. I laughed my ass off at times. And I screamed like hell and covered my eyes during other times. It had its good and bad moments. I had to watch some parts through my fingers- which isn't typical for me. I wish it hadn't taken itself so seriously, because it's the sort of absurd thing that's hard to take seriously. But after all the buzz and fun over the summer, I'm glad I finally watched it. The gag reel was the best part, though :-)
I wanted to work out today, but I have a horrible headache. Medication didn't make a dent. I don't think I want to risk it getting worse.
I'm sad about The OC (it really was just getting good again. And nummy Kevin Sorbo!). I'm really, really sad about Day Break. *pout*
I got a BC catch today for a book I left in Washington DC on my way to a Capitals game! It's my first outside-Virginia wild release catch! I'm sooooooooooo excited!!!
I also participated in my first BookRelay. That site is SO addictive! But I've been sticking to watching the audio book relays and one particular relay called 'Boyz Boyz Boyz' with books about/by gay men.
Finally, I'm having sooooooooo much fun with this care package I'm putting together every month for a soldier listed at AnySoldier. I need to go to Blockbuster/Walmart to buy some pillowcases and some DVDs (and maybe a game if I can find a cheap one I like), but I'm otherwise done with this months. It took me a long time to decide who to send it to, especially since I'm so indecisive. So I ended up making a list and I'll hit the others in future months. For now, I'm concentrating on units deployed out of Virginia.
