I went to my very first BookCrossing meeting today! I was kind of nervous and I had no idea what we'd talk about for 3 hours, but OMG it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful! I didn't get lost going there, which was fantastic in and of itself. But the people were fantastic! Quirky, fun book lovers- and all the ones on my end of the table were huge sci-fi geeks. One of them is part of the sci-fi & fantasy club in my area- which I didn't even know existed- I've been thinking of joining one for a while now. One of the women was even listening to the Buffy Musical CD in the car on the way over and sat in the parking lot for a few minutes because she couldn't turn Spike singing off in the middle of the song. Are these my kind of people or what?? Squee! We got into a brief discussion of fanfic (one of the women was an author who wrote some of the Sweet Valley High books!!) and when I was leaving she saw my bumper sticker and was all "Wait, you write slash? You should have said something when we were talking about fanfic. Oh, I want to read it!!" Awww. But in general, it was GREAT talking about books and shows and bookcrossing and all. A fantastic way to spend the afternoon, even though I'm REALLY crazy busy and freaking out.
I'm heading to Iowa for a week tomorrow morning, bright and early. I'm kind of sad my mom won't get to go, because I know she'd like to. But it'll be nice to go with my sister and dad and see my Grandmother again! *is happy* I'm sure I'll be a bit overwhelmed with all the cousins, but it'll be nice to see them, too. I'm looking forward to the trip, I'm just nervous about it, like I am any time I take a trip anywhere.
So I'll be gone for a week. I probably won't have much internet access. I'll have to go into town and use the computers at the public library to get online. But has wonderfully agreed to post the weekly bunnies for my Sunday (Thank you!) and I'll be back next weekend. Take care, dear flist!
