So I had the WORST night of sleep last night. I felt sick and hard a hard time falling asleep- but Sleepy Hollow was on tv so that was nice. I ended up nodding off around 1am. Then I woke up at 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am, 6:30am, 7:45am, 8:50am, 9am, 10am, and I finally got out of bed some time around 11:40am. I can't remember if it was at 2 & 3 or 3 & 4 but Alien Boot Camp was on and I woke up in time to see some of the first half (mostly Ryo taking care of drunk!Dee and kissing him) and the beginning of the second half including the opening theme song which always makes me feel better. Then Sleepy Hollow was on again. It was a night of restless sleeping, waking up and staying up because of the pain- I woke up and stayed up with a cough drop in my mouth for half an hour at least twice and took pain meds at 7:45 and ended up staying up a little and reading more of Lord John and the Succubus. Max snuggled with me for most of the morning, which was really sweet of him. But even though I kept trying to rest, I barely got any sleep and even when I did manage to, I woke up again minutes later *sigh* The cough drops barely did anything and I've NEVER had such a bad sore throat before. I almost got sick when I tried to gargle and that hurt soooooo much more than I ever could have imagined.
On the way to the theater, I bought some extra-strength Sucrets and took one right before going in and it worked like a charm. Numbed my whole throat/mouth and I didn't even cough once.
Dragging my arse to DC to see Avenue Q was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo worth it. I wasn't sure it would be- I love the soundtrack and have always wanted to see the musical live but wasn't sure I would enjoy it as much as I might have right out of college. It was that soundtrack which really raised my spirits when I was dealing with the end of college and the lack of a purpose in life. Seriously, through, I couldn't have predicted how awesome the show really is. It starts out with two large screens descending from the ceiling and an opening sequence that's a lot like Sesame Street with attitude. I mean, the whole show is a take-off on Sesame Street (for adults), which is why it appeals to me so much, but they did a fantastic job really making it feel like Sesame Street with little video segments ("5 nightstands" *5 cartoon nightstands appear on the tv. Then one-by-one the dissappear until we're left with one* "One nightstand" Get it? It was right after two of the characters had had a, well, a one-night stand heehee). It was SO clever. And the songs I love weren't at all tedious because I knew all the words. In fact, they were exciting and new live like that- I'd forgotten how neat it is to see musicals! But, really, with songs like "Everyone's a little bit racist" and "The internet is for porn" and "It sucks to be me" and "If you were gay" and with puppets- and I can't exclude the fricking awesome pupput sex! (I mean, seriously, they even did a 69 and these puppets don't even have anything below their waists so you can imagine what that looked like LOL) The Bert & Ernie (i.e. Rod & Nicky) characters were definitely my favorite, but I enjoyed the whole thing. I'm SO glad I went. I'd recommend it to anyone in my generation, especially anyone just out of college and going through that thing a lot of people in my generation are going through, not knowing what to do with their lives (there's a term for it, but I can't recall what it is). Anyway, I freakin loved it. Definitely worth it. I felt so good and uplifted afterwards I even donated $10 :-)
