Home sweet home!
Jan. 27th, 2008 03:59 pmWell, I'm home from dogsitting- yippie! They had to stay an extra day but I'm home with enough time to relax and then unpack and pack again to leave for the conference in New York tomorrow.
I'm a little nervous- this is going to be an immense conference. Last year we had about 6,000 people, this year it's 8,000+. And a staff of 13. 300+ events, 600+ bookfair tables/booths. Our keynote is John Irving (Cider House Rules, etc) and we've got hundreds of other poets and authors and publishers. It will be chaos and I'm scared about the network going down or printers breaking, etc. Everything went so well last year that I'm scared this year bad stuff will happen to make up for that.
But on the happy site... I've got a ticket reserved for RENT on Saturday! Squee! One of my life goals was to see RENT on Broadway and apparently they're stopping the show on Broadway in June so it's now or never. ANd now if my coworkers ask to do something, I can smile and say I've already got plans. Yay. But they won't ask. Because they expect me to have no life. Which, technically, is true enough, but I'm happy with my lack of a life. And RENT! Squee!
Also, I have 2 giftfics finished and, if I push myself, I'll have a third finished today. So I'll try to post those before I go and give you nummy goodness to enjoy while I'm gone. I also finished one fic for the SF challenge and I'll add the header to the site today so you can see what it is. I'll say right up front I am TERRIFIED about it. It's not that good, but it's got a few moments I'm proud of. It's mostly just me getting my feet wet in the fandom and playing around to get used to some of the characters. But since it's a really huge fandom with a loyal fanbase I'm absolutely petrified about posting it. It's one thing to churn out a Dante's Cove fic, since I know, like, no one watches that. But this... OMG I'm so scared. Like how scared I was the first time I wrote a LotR fic. In two years I'll look back at this and laugh, I'm sure. But... yeah... I keep tweaking the fic so much that I think it's time to just let it go so I don't do any real damage.
And hockey last night? ROCKED!!!!!!!!! My Ovechkin was wonderful, wasn't he? It was a lot of fun watching all the players, and Backy did so well in the junior game, too- 2 goals! It was a great night to be a hockey fan (go EAST!!!) and I'm looking forward to tonight's All Stars game!
And Torchwood (Oh! I just got my Torchwood S1 box set- SQUEEE!) last night? OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JAMES WAS MAGNIFICENT! I especially appreciated the poodle oggling line since the dog I was dogsitting is a poodle. Ha ha! But that kiss between Jack and John... and the STOPWATCH! OMG I think I need to start that Torchwood giftfic right now while I'm still a puddle of happy.
Okay, time to go give Butterscotch his 4:00 medicine. Ah, it's nice to be back home!
