tarotgal: (Sleeping Junito)
Had a very eventful day today:

1. Couldn't fall asleep last night so at 3am, I e-mailed boss and said I'd be in 2 hours late. Turns out, the power went out at my house *again* at 7:39- before I would have woken up anyway. By the time I worked myself up into finding my travel alarm clock so I didn't sleep past when I'd have to get up for work, the power was back on.

2. On my way to work- as I was backing out of my parking spot and heading down my street, in fact, I saw two dogs running free. I watched them run down the street and stop in the corner yard. I parked my car and went across the street to them. They were suspicious of me at first, but when I backed up, they came towards me. I grabbed one- luckily, the one with the collar & tags with the phone number on it. I called the number and got a little girl. I told her where the dogs were. The neighbors down the street had called, as well (I'd seen them on their cell phones) and the girl's mom and sister were out driving to get them. The dogs took off across the street and then down the street. I followed them in the car. They kept darting around- behind houses, into yards, across the street to see other dogs, etc. and I got really worried. I ended up driving ahead of them and getting to one on a yard. The other stayed with his brother (or her brother- not sure which). So I called again and told the girl I had the dogs and would keep them in one place. Then I called my boss and said I'd be even later to work than planned. After a while, the dogs sat down for me and no one showed up for them. So then I called my mother- who came with two leashes and kept me company while we waited. I called again after another 10 minutes and got the mother- she'd gone the other direction down the street and, thus, missed us. She had a map out and I told her exactly where we were. 10-15 minutes later, there she was with her car and both daughters. Apparently they'd been trying to go off on vacation that morning when the dogs got lose. They lived several housing developments away and had run across an EXTREMELY busy road (everyone drives 50 or above on it) to get to where I live. Whoa. I'm SO glad they were safe and sound and back with their family... even though I had grass and dirt stains on my jeans. LOL

3. The eggs in the wren nest in the flower box by the window outside publications offices at work now has 4 (I think) tiny little gray balls of fluff with beaks! So now I have: the second brood of baby sparrows in the birdhouse right outside our bathroom window, some sort of bird possibly building a nest in the roosting box, a wren nesting in the bushes in front of my house, and baby wrens at the office. They're sooooooooooo cute and they're at waist level so you can look right into the nest at the babies when you walk in/out of the door.

4. Writers' Roundtable went nicely- 10 people attended, which is a good number when half brought things to share.

5. Mom got the results of her bloodwork back tonight. Basically, she's in very bad shape and depressed about it. Her cholesterol is through the roof and she can't figure out why- she doesn't eat anything except sandwich meat (3% daily) and occasionally hot dogs (30% daily) that have any cholesterol in it. So it might just be genetics or one of the hundreds of medications she's on. I'm really sad she's feeling worse than she usually does and sad that she's sad. And now I'm really scared about my own health. I have my share of problems but it's NOTHING compared to Mom (ulcerative colitis, cancer survivor, abnormal heart beat, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, a hernia, massive food allergies, regular allergies, the list goes on and on). And now she's scared I'm going to suffer a lot of the same (or, you know, everything else my families are known for- like diabetes) so I think I'm going to start really working out again and losing weight so I can, you know, feel fit/healthy and run up a flight of stairs without being winded. That'd be a very good step.

6. I've got both discs of Dante's Cove, season 3 ready and waiting for my love here. AND I have all of Doctor Who season 4 DVRed and ready for me! Think I'm going to rewatch torchwood & the last three episodes of season 3 again before I break into season 4, though.

7. I'm planning to go to two screenings of Serenity at the Can't Stop the Serenity event here- with friends on Friday and with family on Saturday. Friday's show is going to be non-non-smoking so I'm a little worried about smelling like smoke after that and being able to breathe all night. But I'm a worrier.

8. Oh! I finished 15 whole stories for the InsaneJournal community porn_battle! The list & links are in my other main LiveJournal or InsaneJournal if you want to take a look. The QAF one has a couple of sneezes, just FYI.

9. I'm going to need a beta reader for a Remus/Sirius Fuh-Q-Fest story. I haven't started writing it yet, but it'll probably be R/NC-17. It's supposed to be due July 1 but I requested an extension today. No worries if no one here can do it. (99% chance there will NOT be sneezing) I can ask elsewhere. it's just that y'all see the majority of my writing and know my puppies better than people on my fic lists.

10. Um. Can't think of a 10. Oh! I gave a book to one of my BC in DC group members since the book is called 'Beach Day'. he released it on the beach and it was caught today!
