tarotgal: (Torchwood- Stopwatch)
My entire December is scheduled down to the minute from now on... so I kept feeling like I was missing something important I was supposed to do today!

Yesterday I had volunteering, then the NaNoWriMo TGIO (Thank God It's Over) party. I skipped the HPA Chapters party because I just didn't have time. Then I headed over to my Harry Potter meetup group's party. It was possibly the best party we've ever had. We packed the clubhouse. Amazingly good food. I handmade holiday crackers for them all (with handmade book strings and tons of other goodies inside). We did I gift random exchange and I ended up with... a Harry Potter LEGO set! Hahaha! We played charades and then 20 questions and I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Seriously good times.

Today I took it easy and got up to wait for an e-mail from a friend... an e-mail that never came. So after spending an hour reading some seriously good Avengers fic that was reced over at [livejournal.com profile] hcrec I watched some Star Trek Voyager and finished up Season 2. Then I decided that, since the e-mail invite to go see Hugo was not coming my way, I'd just go see it on my own. I finished the book last night, which means I was finally allowed to see the movie starting today *G*

I LOVED Hugo. Definitely worth seeing in 3-D (and there really aren't many movies I'd say that about). Okay, so the trailer beforehand for TPM 3-D was also seriously awesome. Obi & Qui not only on the big screen again but in 3-D? YES PLEASE! Yeah, I'm sure horrible parts like the pod races and JarJar's tongue are going to be all "whoa!" with a lot of people, but I'm just about my boys. And they looked GOOD together on the big screen in 3-D today!

But, yeah, I loved Hugo. It was gorgeous, just like the book. But I didn't know a single thing about the cast, which was SUCH a pleasant surprise! Once I got over the visuals of Madam Maxime and Vernon Dursley flirting with each other while Narcissa Malfoy hung out in other scenes, I was amazed at the casting I hadn't known anything about: Sir Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lee, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Jude Law (OMG Jude Law, 'cause he's in every movie, bless). The kids, especially Asa, were very good. And the changes they made from book to movie are ones I could absolutely live with; in fact, I like a couple of the changes even more. And, honestly, Brian's book is AMAZING because the illustrations don't accompany text, they replace text. They're part of the storytelling experience. But it's a story about movies and so it works exceptionally well AS a movie. Instead of seeing a photo of a scene in the movie, you actually see the movie clips themselves. They brought the book to life perfectly with the costumes and sets (oh, the train station was utter perfection). You couldn't help loving the automoton. I could possibly have lived without the dream sequence, which seemed more like an excuse to do awesome things visually that didn't fit into the plot. Apart from that little bit, I thought it was great. The story was sweet and entertaining, and the added bits even amused me.

The ending was so good it made me cry and feel really happy to work somewhere that promotes the arts. It's nice to see art that was neglected and taken advantage of being honored. But it's even more awesome to see that art being showcased as the central piece of a brand new kind of story. It's like a reboot of Voyages Dans La Lune :-) And I love that little kids and parents and anyone who sees this movie will be forced into this appreciation for Georges Melies :-) Win!

I did a little bit of shopping over by the movie theater (somehow managed to spend $100+ on gifts I hadn't planned on buying and didn't need to buy but couldn't resist buying).

Then I came home, watched a little bit more Voyager and some Amazing Race (very satisfying). And I read some bloody AWESOME Sherlock threesome fic that was also reced on [livejournal.com profile] hcrec. Guh! So good! So much good to watch! I need to watch Sherlock. And catch up on NCIS. And catch up on Doctor Who. And finish Voyager. And Supernatural, of course. But, somehow, I talked myself into wanting to write an Avengers threesome fic. Thanks SO much, [livejournal.com profile] rupertbear, LMAO! It'd be Tony/Steve/Logan. OMG they're totally going to kill each other *EG*

So now I'm watching the new Avengers cartoon show. On episode 3 now. Hulk is so boring to me when he's Hulk and not Bruce. This is a problem I've had forever. I might love a lot of things guys like, but I just DON'T get the appeal of watching a giant green guy mindlessly smash. At least when the Thing and Beast kick some ass, they keep their minds. And Beast is downright brilliant at the same time. *shrug* The only time I like the Hulk is when he's Bruce.

Also... I kinda want to get Doc (Leonard) and Bucky together somehow. Sidekicks unite (literally)! Damn Marvel characters. Too awesome for their own good sometimes *G*
