awards show
Jan. 25th, 2004 10:55 pmI watched a bit of the Golden Globes. I tend not to like the Golden Globes, but I don't like most award shows in general- and this one's voting has always really annoyed me. Well, that and the fact that they never pick who I want to win. LOL
*sigh* I really wanted Big Fish to win SOMETHING! *sniffles*
And, of course, RotK won a lot- which I'm thrilled about, but not surprised. Just watched the end where Peter's giving his thank you's for the Best Picture win and he had everybody get up on stage with him, lined up behind him. Then, as he says his last 'thank you' and everyone claps, Lij jumps over straight away and gives Dom this really big, enthusiastic hug, like he'd been waiting all that time just to do it. Awwwwwww! Worth watching just for that! heehee!
Still... grrr... I really wanted Big Fish to win something. It SO deserved it. Stupid Golden Globes... I'll keep my fingers crossed for the Academy Awards now, I suppose.

Date: 2004-01-26 06:00 am (UTC)So it was huge the this mom said the Golden Globes were a freebie! My daughter especially loved them (she's at the age where she's a little star-struck) and we were both really only watching for Return - so we were thrilled when Peter Jackson won Best Director - and I thought it was so touching that when the camera panned across the faces of the cast like Dom and Elijah and Cate Blachett, they all had tears in their eyes, they were so happy for him!
And yes, I saw and felt the same as you about that hug between Elijah and Dom - it was so great to see and I hope that there will be a lot more hugging between hobbits come the Oscars!
Although if you are rooting for Big Fish to get something, then I hope they do...just not the top Director and Best Picture awards, sorry!!!

Date: 2004-01-26 06:28 am (UTC)Oh, and I agree with you about when Peter won Best Director, I came out into the living room just to watch that part and see their reactions. Awwwwww! That was SO sweet.
I tried to listen to a couple of songs from the RotK soundtrack yesterday to decide whether to buy it or not, and I couldn't listen to more than a couple seconds. It's just way too powerful to me. I want to cry with emotion just from hearing a little bit of it. Jurrassic Park sometimes does that to me, but I've never had a soundtrack hit me so hard as that.
ANyway... WHOA, only one show a week? That's... wow... that's crazy. LOL
Until I was in middle school, I was only allowed to watch tv on Friday night and Saturday morning. And even then it was Saturday morning cartoons, Star Trek, ABC News with Peter Jennings, Jeopardy, and PBS. That's all I was allowed to watch until I was in 7th grade. And even then the Friday&Sat rule stood(so I learned the art of taping)
Then in the summers when I was in middle school we'd have tv tickets. I'd get, like, 10 hours of tv a week and have tickets that were in 30minute increments. So if I wanted to watch something, I had to put a ticket in the box on top of the tv. My favorite part was making the tickets- I got to me all artistic with them and I'd always save my prettiest tickets for the end of the week. LOL Of course, by that age, when I did the dishes I was allowed to watch tv at the same time, so I used to make the dishes last for an hour or two. LOL And then I hit high school and pulled all-nighters 3-4 nights a week and didn't have time for tv except on the weekends.
But one program a week... wow... that's fantastic. I wouldn't be able to stick to that. I'm tres impressed!!! Off topic, maybe, but impressed! :-)

Date: 2004-01-26 08:49 am (UTC)I never had any restrictions but then again when I was little we only had three TV channels and no VCR so it wasn't really a problem *lol*

Date: 2004-01-26 08:57 am (UTC)My family, lower middle class as they were, never had cable until I was nearly done with high school. So I only had 8 channels until then (three of them PBS-Sesame Street and all that) And then I had the internet as a distraction, as well :-) I sort of miss those simple days.

Date: 2004-01-26 12:07 pm (UTC)As for TV things a still fairly simple in Denmark - there are only 8 Danish channels (beside the movie channels that costs extra which is why I don't have them), CNN, BBC, MTV and Discovery and then a lot of German channels that I never watch because they always synchronize everything..
So obviously I don't watch that much TV ;-)

Date: 2004-01-26 12:16 pm (UTC)I have... *quickly counts* Er, about 40 now. And I watch, perhaps, 10 or 11. I do wish I got BBC, though. Having been raised on PBS, I have a taste for British comedies.
There's a lot to be said for simple, though. I remember when I was visiting Scotland, staying in a hostel and there were 4 channels. Made it easier for everyone to decide what to watch. :-)heehee

Date: 2004-01-26 12:38 pm (UTC)I don't really miss more channels except when you write about something that sounds interesting (like ER) and I can't watch it :-(
British comedies.. are you talking Black Adder, fawlty Towers and Monty Python - kind of comedies?

Date: 2004-01-26 12:48 pm (UTC)As for the 600 channels- they have a special digital cable box, and a special guide built into the tv so you can search by title and see what's on a week from now on a channel, etc. And you can cycle through the schedule without having to leave the program you're currently watching. It's a brilliant system, really. But the remote's got, like, 40 buttons and I only learned how to work five or six of them. WAY too complicated for me! But the search and browse functions seem helpful. Can't imagine figuring out what's on without that. LOL
Having lots of channels might be nice... but I think it's much more important to have a few channels with really, really good programming rather than 600 and most of them being pointless (like the fishing channel- I would never watch that)

Date: 2004-01-26 01:08 pm (UTC)I haven't seen Black Adder either, but a friend told me yesterday that that is a flaw in my upbringing, so I'm thinking maybe I did miss out on something ;-)
