Stories...
Feb. 16th, 2004 09:19 amUg... it's some holiday today- President's day, is it? I wouldn't know, my university never cancels class for holidays. Anyway, all the tv schedules are screwed up/special. Which means no Charmed this morning :-( Sad. Ah well, I'll certainly live. :-)
I finished my Aragorn/Legolas story... which is less A/L and more just a suffering!elf story. I'm editing it now. I'm going to attempt to post it tonight in an update, along with the Star Wars one I finished yesterday. I know, I talk about less traffic to the sneezefic list and then I don't post the stories there. But they're not really that type. They're a bit different from my usual. I don't feel completely comfy posting them there. And y'all find my site just fine anyway. That way, if they suck, I embarrass myself much less publically :-)
I have been thinking of writing my first femslash story. It's a little scary, as the genre really doesn't do anything for me, I'm afraid. But I like the characters and the relationship and a plot bunny's really been biting at me hard. So I might just do it. Having just checked the Female Sneezefic group challenge, it actually fits that challenge very well (it's an HP fic) so I might just go ahead and try and hope it doesn't suck. It's been a long while since I wrote a sneezefic that didn't arouse me- LOL!

Date: 2004-02-17 06:52 pm (UTC)Unusual and non-standard is gooood, in my humble little opinion. Without challenge and rebellion, how would we learn anything, or grow as writers? Of course, not fifteen minutes ago I wrote a petrified and slightly whiny note to the sneezefic board in which I said I was afraid and potentially unwilling to take a risk ere I humiliate myself in a fic, so my opinion is probably worth less than a bit of frozen dog poo revealed by the melting snows.
But, that being said, I think you could write a great fem slashfic, and you'll more than likely end up impressing yourself and everyone else in the process. You know the HP universe, you know Rowling's style, and yet you have your own writerly voice and interests in the fandom. As such, what you write will be new and nifty. And I think it would be a nice thing indeed to post something to the femfanfic site -- it seems so lonely and barren, and needs a wee bit of something to cheer it up.
Oy, BTW, did you get the few pics I sent of Sisutul? I recall you were having troubles with your hotmail account, and that's where I sent the stuff.

In theory, yes, it's good to take risks and do nonstandard things (especially for your own sake) but that doesn't mean it's right in every circumstance for every story. So thank you for your opinion! It's always interesting to hear from writers on these sorts of subjects.
I've been going back and forth on the femslash story... I just have SO much right now going on... I *shouldn't* put my attention into yet another thing. And yet, yesterday I started 3 new stories, so I don't want to discount this one just because it seems like a big ol' genre I don't understand. It's this thing hovering above me... the great FEMSLASH genre... I just need to stop thinking of it as that and think of it as just another story or I'll be biased and scared and it'll never get written. :-)
As for the Sisutul pictures- yes, I got them just fine (once I figured out how to open pictures in hotmail now that they've changed their interface- LOL- I'm an idiot) It's just how I pictured it in my mind after reading your story- especially the second one with the curved necks. Thank you much for taking the time to send them to me!
Re:
Date: 2004-02-17 07:41 pm (UTC)I get aroused while writing sneezefics(and the like) in a WHOLE different way than I do during sex. It's much more sensual to create the story and the details... to see it in my head and feel it pouring out of me. And when I'm writing things that I'm normally turned on by, that's heightened a lot because I'm making them be that way, not because they arouse me as images/situations/stories. Writing a character sneezing is completely different from reading about one, or seeing someone sneeze. Both are arousing to me, but in utterly different ways.
And that's compared to the stories I used to write on request or write just for readers that feel much more forced. I'm not emotionally attached or attracted to them in the same way. I'm much more indifferent.
And no! Silly! Don't stop writing! Everyone's different. Stories would be so dull if authors didn't feel differently in the creative process :-) Just to quote Ben from QAF because it's somewhat on topic and I like quoting QAF whenever I can: "There's nothing as sexual as the act of creation. When I'm writing and it's pouring out of me, I swear to god, I'm like completely turned on. Sometimes I even get a hard on. It's the fucking greatest orgasm there is."
Re:
Date: 2004-02-17 07:43 pm (UTC)Well, I think a few of them did suck... but that just reminds me to keep getting better. Hopefully none of my more recent stories have sucked, even if they weren't perfect :-)
Thank you very much for the confidence booster!
