Random Highlander
Mar. 14th, 2003 01:55 pmI'm downloading a few episodes of Highlander to use for vidding and watching them rather randomly as I get them. Yesterday's pick was 'Methos' and today's was 'Watchers' both extremely pivitol episodes in the series. It's very interesting watching the old episodes in random order, knowing what I know now.
I had to laugh through much of 'Methos' because of the fact that Highlander:Endgame stole so much of its plot LOL And, man, a young Peter Wingfield makes his appearance on the show- they didn't know how far he would go on it *G* I just think of the horsemen eps and the Methuselah stone and Judgement Day and then watch the first episode he's in- it's very immature in comparison, but there are no contradictions and the mystery and potential is overwhelmingly lucious. What an amazing character Methos is. I mean, truly. I really, really wish they'd had an episode to build up the theory of the oldest immortal, though. Given us time to really build our hopes up rather than telling us it's a legend not the truth then showing us the guy 2 minutes later.
As for watchers... the perfect way to begin a new season, even though I cry every time they show the scene with Darius' head body. *sniffles* If I were an immortal, I'd want to be Darius. What a sweet, kind, WISE man. And Joe... MAN... his introduction to the series as well. And Horton *GROWL!* Secret societies... immortals threatened by a logical but unnatural presence... leading up to so many intricate details and plots and complex friendships
What an amazing series. And sure, the episodes are corny sometimes and rough compared to later ones... but there's a certain beauty in the roughness. A certain elegance in the mystery which leads to so much. Gods, I love that show.
