Watching his reaction

I single-handedly forced my boyfriend to endure Harry Potter. I know, it's shamefull, but it had to be done and he enjoyed it once it was. I dragged him to the first movie during our break when the theatre was empty. And he let me drag him to the second on opening morning (not quite the midnight showing that we hit the theaters for in SW:2, but advanced tickets count for something in this world) Both times, I've delighted in seeing his reactions as someone who knows the films and not the books. He's got enormous respect for the books, but he gave up reading for fun a long time ago.
I cringed and smiled when he said "oohh Poor Scabbers!" when Ron turned him into a Goblet in the second movie and wasn't seen changing him back. I smiled when he didn't pick up on the Tom Riddle is Voldemort connection. And I nod whenever he complains that Snape might have saved Harry's life but he should be pitched out on his arse.
For our last anniversary together, he got me Book 3 on cassette tape. I'd heard it on mp3 many times already- in fact, I have the book, my favorite of the 4 so far, nearly memorized. But I decided the perfect thing to do was to listen to it in the car with him. So we began. Usually I put it on when we're driving out to Walmart (a 20 minute drive or so one way) and we're up to... well, Sirius Black just scratched the Fat Lady on Halloween.
It is simply AMAZING listening to the book with him. He even tollerates my squealing every time Professor Lupin walks into a room. And he even liked the exchange between Snape and Lupin before the boggart and when Harry had tea in his office. He is convinved that Snape is the bad guy still, and believes he should be thrown out along with Malfoy or killed or something terrible like that. And he feels sorry for f-ing Scabbers every time Crookshanks goes at him. When Snape and Dumbledore are talking the night of the first break in and Snape tried to suggest someone let Black in, my boyfriend actually exclaimed "Yeah, you did!"
It is magical, as if I am experiencing the books for the first time. In truth, I think the obvious surprises were ruined for me by Nermal (sorry, Love, but it's true!) I had read... oh... three or four of her stories before even starting my frist HP book and knew and believed that not only was Black not evil or trying to kill Harry but that he and Lupin were soulmates. So it's interesting seeing how the book might be read by someone without that knowledge. I hope we get to the end soon... I'm DYING to see his reaction to chapters 17, 18 and 19. *G*
