MY CAR?!

This should teach me to tempt fate. Or something like that. The first song I heard when I woke up this morning was Alanis singing "Ironic" on Ellen's show. That should have told me something.

It was 3am and I was watching a Soprano's episode about Tony working on the Italian connection with their stolen car ring, right? And the doorbell starts ringing. It's just my sister and my mother and I awake at that point. Sister comes running up the stairs to me and I go to get Mom. We don't exactly open the door at 3am. So we look and it's my neighbor. My car alarm is going off because someone was breaking into my car!!!

I didn't see the guy(s) but the alarm must have scared them away. They smashed a giant hole in the passenger-side window and opened the door, though. We woke my father up and he sleepily called the police. Dad usually wakes up at 4:30 so this was an hour early for him. Anyway, cop came out and took a look. The rest of the window fell onto the ground in pieces when he looked in. He ran it all and gave me a number to give to my insurance company. But... yeah... bloody hell! Luckily I'd taken the CDs and stereo and CD player and phone all out a month or so ago because my neighbor's car was stolen from that same spot (it's up on a hill where our development's overflow parking is). She never got her car back. But they didn't steal mine, luckily. I guess this is what I get for having a car on the top 5 "most stolen cars" list, right? But, damn, what a morning/night!

Ah, back in Northern Virginia. Back in the boonies I could leave my purse in my car and the doors unlocked without worrying. And here cars get stolen from the street right in front of the house several times a month.

My mother's going to buy me The Club. Yeah. As though I'll be able to figure out how to get that on and off. LOL You'd think if the car didn't have a stereo and trash covering the backseat that they'd pass it by. But I guess my baby was too pretty. *sniffles*

Oh my God! That is funny--in horrible way, though. I'm glad nothing was stolen. I drive a 2000 Corolla so I'm always worried about someone trying to break in but then again mine has a lot of crap in the back, like yours, and everyone drives my car so there are better ones to choose from (I don't even have a CD player), but still. Sometimes I tell myself that I'd much rather drive my father's even crappier 1981 Civic to be safe, and he has the Club, but I'm just paranoid like that. I think my city is one of, if not the most, the safest metropolitan cities with a population exceeding a certain amount in the country so there aren't too many problems but I still worry sometimes.

But gosh! *Hug* That really is terrible though, I'm sorry.

Mine's a '96 Honda Civic EX (with a sunroof and all that crap). Not a very recent year, but the people who had it before the person who had it before me suped it up a little (like a tuner). They added some sun/rain guard thingies over the windows and put these spiffy tail lights on. It doesn't have a CD player, just my portable one I stick in the lighter. So that was easy to take out instead of leave it there to get stolen.

It's probably slightly nicer than a 1981 civic, though. I sort of miss my beat up minivan. No one would have thought of stealing that, even for the parts! lol

But my neighbor's car was stolen less than a month ago from there so I figured it was just a matter of time before they tried mine. I'm damn glad they hadn't, though!

Thanks for the sympathy. And you're right. It's both funny and terrible at the same time. I'm definitely over the shock of something like that happening here in the suburbs about 20 feet from my house.

Oh gods, I'm sorry you had to experience such an awful thing! My best friend had her left passenger side window smashed in and the door frame bent above the driver's door a couple years ago when we were still living together. It was a '97 Ford Contour, and they broke into it at night while it was in our apartment parking lot, a few blocks from the university. We never heard a thing, despite the fact that our living and bedrooms face the parking lot and we stay up late at night. It was such a shock to find it the next morning though, and it sure as heck made me very paranoid for the rest of the time we lived there. I hope your car gets fixed ok, and quickly...

Thanks *hugs* The scariest part was just wondering if they perps were still lurking around somewhere in the shadows and not wanting to have a run-in with them. But the policeman was really quick to get here and really nice. So I felt a bit better after that. I think I would have preferred it this way to waking up and finding my car like that in the morning, though.
I'm glad hers wasn't stolen! That's good at least. But YIKES big-time! I'd feel uncomfortable parking and hanging there from then on, too!
I was awake (3 of us in the house were) and hadn't heard my car alarm either but I'm glad the guy a few houses down did!

Crap! I drive a Corolla too. I'm always worried... *shudder*

Sorry about the car Tg, but yeah at least they didn't steal it! When I was in New York city, my car was broken into twice and once some coats were stollen, and the second time, some presents in the back were.
