I watched Treasure Planet tonight... I really enjoyed it. Probably because of David Hyde Pierce... what a cute lad *G* But anyway, now I'm wishing I had read Treasure Island all those years ago. I really enjoyed the father/son relationship between Jim and Silver and if it's done that well in the book (er, or at all in the book) I would totally read it just for that. I'm not a huge pirate fan... but I could get into it for that. And I'd also like to find out how accurate the ending is... or whether Disney just made it happy because, hey, it's Disney. Anyone out there ever read Treasure Planet?

Anyway, I did enjoy it as a 'playing in the background as I wrote my paper' sort of movie. The 'Danit, Jim! I'm an astronomer not a doctor!..." lines were TOO FUNNY for words. I replayed them about 20 times. LOL
I followed the movie up with the 10th episode of Stargate which was great, because I've always loved the Norse Gods. So a nice night... and it's 7am.. I'm off to shower and clean catbox and fall asleep for 3 hours until my meeting. Needless to say, I'm not giving blood this morning with my boyfriend. *sigh* Ah well, they always yell at me for bleeding too slowly anyway. Night!

The book is actually Treasure Island- by Robert Louis Stevenson. Excellent book. I've not only read it- I read it to my two younger brother when they were little.

In fact- I know that this might sound kind of snobbish- but that is why I don't want to see Treasure Planet. I suppose that for me it is like Miracle on 34th Street- I absolutely adore the orginal (even in black and white) and can not bring myself to really watch any new adeptions. Does that sound really odd??? I'm not like that with everything that I like- just certain things.

The book ending isn't depressing but it isn't really completely "happy" either. Stevenson has a great way with characters though- I think that you might really like it. There is a struggle between Long John being fatherly and being a mean, rotten dispicable person. It is really interesting.

Still have to read the rest of the new LotR story that you posted- so far it is great!! Will post comment on sneezefic after I am entirely finished.

Thanks! Yeah... that's what I meant and said at the beginning of the post... that should teach me to write posts at 7am. Gah. Yes, Treasure Island is what I meant.

I know a lot of people who boycotted the movie because of that- which is fine, I've done the same thing with some things- doesn't sound odd, I think it's very good of you. But I personally like remakes that are very different from the original in time/place (like the Romeo and Juliet done in 'modern day' that came out a few years ago with Leo and Claire) I think it takes a lot of creativity to tell a story in a completely different way. And I'd heard the graphic effects were great, which many were.

I think I'm definitely going to boost Treasure Island to to top of my reading list behind Fellowship now... thanks for the brief description of those aspects... *G* In Treasure Plant, there was a short bit of that torn between two very different characteristics in Silver... and I was actually pretty startled with the fatherly one won out over the mean and greedy. I think the book would be a much better place for me to get that struggle in depth :-) ANyhoo, thank you!!!!!

Sounds good. :) Glad I didn't sound too dorky. And I did really like that movie "Ever After" (ok- wasn't change in setting really- but change in type of charcter to an extent). This will probably sound odd too, but I did very much enjoy "Clueless" it was a very unique update to "Emma". Although I must confess that I far preferred the version with Emma Thompson and *I am SOOO terrible- can't remember the gorgeous hunk of a Brit. actor that played George Knightly* (sigh). Although prob. that was partly due to older man who was sexy Brit. wearing breeches, so.... *chuckles*
