Cats!

Thought I'd share... Yeah, I know I have a photoblog, but I can't help sharing the kitties here *G* My cat and my parents' three:


Top Left (brown & black)- Angel
Top Right (black & white)- Benji
Bottom Left (orange & white)- Butterscotch
Bottom Right (grey & black)- Maxwell (my baby!)

I took this pic tonight as they were waiting around to get their moist food (we give them a spoonful or two every night). We feed my parents three in the kitchen here, and feed my Max in the bathroom which seems to help his anxiety. And then afterwards, we let him out and he finishes up all the food the others have left on their plates.

Aww! What cute kitties! Do they all get along well? They look like a nice good lookin' group of cats. Whenever anyone tries to feed our cat we have to make sure it's when the dog is not around otherwise she'll push the cat out of the way and eat her food. Speaking of which, my cat is probably waiting on my bed for me...

They get along all right... usually better without my cat around. Angel is the head of the group (and the only female). She mothers them and they all obey her. But Max is used to being an only cat so sometimes tensions arise when he wants to sleep where she likes to, etc. Benji is in love with EVERYONE (strangers, dogs, cats, etc.) so there's never a problem with him. Butterscotch is scard to death of everyone so if there's ever a conflict, he runs and hides. Max feels defensive most of the time, since this is technically their house. And so he ends up hissing and trying to tell them not to bother him... even when the others were just trying to be friendly and had no intention of bothering him. But his hissing makes Angel annoyed and Butterscotch run and Benji just wants to lick and play with him. So it's a strange dynamic but it works for the most part. They're at the stage where they'll all play with each other (in pairs) and sleep next to each other (just not touching). They have their moments of tension and their moments of affection and playfulness. But pretty much each has his or her own personality and there isn't all that much conflict.

But throwing the dog into the mix is a completely different story. Luckily, the cats' & dog's food are completely separate and there's never any problem there. Even if my cat does like to eat dog treats if they're lying around somewhere. Ewwww!

Aww, so very cute! I love kitties -- mine just died awhile back. November fifteenth. That was a very sad day. But aww, yours are so pretty and fuzzy looking. And Maxwell looks like he's talking to somebody. Hee. Cute. Cute cute cute.

Awww...such a cute bunch of kitties! Angel looks so much like my Eowyn-kitty it's almost eerie.

I got my own glimpse into the world of multiple cat behavior this weekend when I took Eowyn home with me. My parent's calico cat Emmy doesn't like Eowyn much at all, and hissed when she saw what was in the cat carrier. Then Eowyn makes things worse by wanting to play more aggressively than Emmy does (Emmy is 6 yrs old, Eowyn almost 2). Then Eowyn stole Emmy's pet bed, and that didn't endear them to each other much either *G*. By the end of the weekend they were touching noses though, and it was sooooo adorable, but then I had to take Eowyn home with me. Next time I take her back, they'll have to start all over :)

Yeah, it took about a day and a half to two days for Max and the others to adjust every time I came to visit for a weekend or week. And they'd have to start all over again as well. But it DOES get a little better each time, I assure you. But I'm willing to bet both cats are rather glad to have their own places to themselves again as well. Though it sounds as though your Eowyn was comfy jumping into the dominant position there (which is usually what cats try to do when introduced to a new setting with new cats, so they show the other(s) they're in charge and dictate when to play, etc.).

And thanks- we've got cute kitties. I'll pass the compliment on to them :-) I thought you might say that about Angel, given your previous comments/descriptions about your Eowyn's appearance. Angel's got a very sleek tail and stumpy legs. And huge round ears and eyes. I call her an owl, which my sister doesn't like me to do. LOL
