Even though it's was nice and pretty out today: When it rains... it monsoons. The continuing saga of my crappy week(s)...
Grandfather's still not doing well. Congestive heart failure. We're all pretty bummed, to put it lightly. I broke down a little tonight. This really sucks.
Got up extra early today to take care of parents' dog before I went to work. 4 hours of sleep. No problem. *rubs at eyes*
So I get in my car and the damn thing won't start. I tried several times but it kept making bad noise and didn't start. I got out and the guys doing the lawn across the street said my battery was dead. DAMNIT!
So, yeah. That friggin sucked. Not to mention that it was 14 degrees out. Last week it was 75, today 14. Bloody hell. I LOVE the cold, so I'm not complaining, honestly I'm not. At least not about the cold. The fact that my stupid car wouldn't start... yeah, I'm complaining. So I gathered up my many bags and things and got out of the car. I pushed the little locking button on my keyless remote, then double-checked to be sure it locked, as I always do. And the car door didn't lock, but apparently the alarm armed as it was supposed to. DOUBLE DAMNIT!
Lawn guys across the street were practically laughing their asses off at me by this point. Here I am in this huge puffy winter jacket and juggling 4 bags, several books, two sets of keys, and the alarm is going off on a car that won't even start. Yeah, okay, so it's kinda fucking hilarious. I don't blame them for laughing.
I managed to manually lock the car from inside then close it up and arm it... seems to have worked. Don't know if I can get back in again, but it seems to have worked. Luckily, I had my choice of vans because my mother and sister are in Cali still. So I picked Mom's van (my sister drives my old one... but Mom's has airbags).
At this point I checked my watch to see how late I would be for work- luckily also that I left the house 10 minutes early (thank you parents' dog for peeing so quickly for me this morning!) and I saw I still had 5 minutes before I was supposed to leave. Then I realized I had 5 hours and 5 minutes. My fucking watch had stopped working. TRIPLE DAMNIT!
So I took my mom's van to work. I hate driving that van. It's got so many blind spots. And I nearly ran right into a car on the way out of the housing development. Totally didn't see it. Thank goodness I didn't hit it. Mom says I should take the old van to work tomorrow. I told her the old one does have airbags so I'll die if I get hit and maybe that's a good thing. She said "yes, definitely." I don't think she was listening to me. Big surprise. LOL I think she's got more important things to worry about at the moment, though.
And then on the way to work was a commercial about how the cold makes weak car batteries worse. Yeah. Thanks for telling me NOW! LMAO There was also a nice cold medicine commercial. Female sneeze but still it was a good omen. And then U2's Beautiful Day song came on the radio. And that cheered me up. It's fun to sing along to when you're having a fucking rotten day :-)
I had a full morning at work, then left around 1:45pm to go back home and let dog out again. Simon (dog) was more excited than I have ever seen him. He ran right outside and rolled around in the dried leaves and grass. I was very amused. I also got to see a nice buddy-buddy moment on NYPD Blue on TNT. Have all sorts of cop bunnies running through my head now. Wonder if Dee and Ryo ever watch Starsky and Hutch...
So I was at work by 2:35 and had more fun. We got our EIN today, finally. Had to spend an hour on the phone to get it, but we got it. Which means we're on Step 2.5 out of 7 in getting the company off the ground. Only took 3 months... 4.5 more steps to go! *groans*
Stopped by Walmart on the way home to get a new watch battery. Woman put one in, and the watch still didn't work. So the thing is dead/broken. QUADRUPLE DAMNIT!
I did, however, find the $3 DVD display at Walmart (as well as the $1 DVD bin filled with tons of old crappy things even I wouldn't buy) and I bought 'Guinevere' with Noah Wyle and my Sean Patrick Flanery baby *G* WHich is funny as I watched 'King Arthur' last night. Still, yeah, Noah and Sean Patrick goodness on DVD! Yay-ness! And the whole stop-off at Walmart took me a whole 20 minutes. Including the part where a person in an SUV with a soccer mom sticker on it pulled out right in front of me in front of Walmart without stopping at their stopsign. GROWL!
Came home an hour and a half after the time the dog was supposed to be fed- which my mother specifically told me was okay to do- I asked her twice before she got on the plane to California- only to find my father already home from work and walking the dog who, when he was not fed, threw up three times because he hadn't been fed. QUINTUPLE DAMNIT!!!
Dog seems fine now. All bouncy and happy as always, but now I feel horribly guilty. Had leftovers for dinner and got a question on Jeopardy right that all the others missed/didn't answer. So that was a happy moment. Then Mom called with bad news about Grandfather. It's been a fairly depressing day, altogether.
But at least I'm not in a van full of gasoline parked in the middle of D.C. So I've got that going for me!
I'm damn tired though. Eyes hurt and I keep nodding off. Still have to clean house and take care of the cats and dog later tonight. And tomorrow I get to go to my favorite place in the world again! The dentist's. SEXTUPLE DAMNIT!!!!!
Wait, is that even a word? Hell if I know. I'm too tired to care. Stupid car battery *kicks* Stupid bank account with only $170 in it because my boss hasn't paid me in a month *kicks* Stupid congestive heart failure *KICKS*
