Sean & Stupid people (no relation)
Feb. 18th, 2005 12:03 amSean Astin's supposed to be on Craig's show tonight. Yayness! :-)
Just saw an incredibly stupid news segment on NBC local news about Blockbuster's end of late fees deal. People were enraged that after a week their card would start to be charged for a sale and then they would own it after a month. One woman said "Oh, but they didn't tell me that part!" Another woman even said "Well, I guess we won't be renting from Blockbuster any more!" Oh, come on. Didn't you read all the literature they have all over the store that explains it? Or talk to someone who works there who'll explain it?
Listen. You get it for a week or two days (depending on the newness). Then you get it an extra week. Then you get it another THIRTY days. ANY time within that span you can return it and you pay NOTHING. COME ON STUPID PEOPLE! If you cannot return a movie after either 5 weeks or 6 weeks (and ignore the two phone calls and postcard you get notifying you about the specific movie you have out) you deserve to be charged for it! The altenative is to have it out for two days to a week and be charged after that. But, apparently, these people would rather still go to places where you get charged bigtime if you have it more than two days. WTF?!!!
Hmmm. Quandary: Have it out two days and then pay big fees or have it out five weeks and then pay big fees. Tough call! *rolls eyes*
People are stupid here. STUPID PEOPLE! I have half a mind to write to Blockbuster and apologize for the stupid people in my community now. I go there, like, 4 times a week now. *snuggles Blockbuster*

Date: 2005-02-18 10:22 am (UTC)I was wondering about how that no late fee things worked. I thought it was just for the subscriber people but it's for everyone? Just when you rent one movie and you you're not on the list or whatever where you pay per month and rent as many as you want? Hmmm. I so need to use my gift cards anyway...Maybe I should check this out.

Date: 2005-02-18 02:08 pm (UTC)I think that they Definately give people enough time. If people are Dumb enough to whine about getting charged after hanging onto it Forever- that is rediculous. I guess it's true that with some people- give them an inch and they'll whine that they aren't getting a mile and a half.

Date: 2005-02-18 07:51 pm (UTC)Yes, it's no late fees for EVERYONE. Has nothing at all to do with that subscription monthly rental program- that's a completely separate thing altogether with its own set of rules.
It's just if you want to keep a movie an extra few days (up to a week) you're not penalized for doing so. And so you don't keep it out indefinitely, they start to sell it to you after a week overdue but if you give it back to them any time 30 days after that, they take the charge right off your card again. So, yeah, no more late fees. It's really nice not feeling guilty about keeping it another day or two now :-)
It's a really nice thing, IMO. I can't understand why everyone on the news segment thought it was horrible. *shrug* But it's all explained on the website and at the store if you have any other questions :-) Man, I should work for Blockbuster marketing, shouldn't I? LOL
