Nice Day :-)
Jun. 3rd, 2005 05:39 pmWent to bed around 4:00am and then got up at 9am.
Had a quick breakfast and went over to the gas station to get my car inspected. I, um, rather forgot to do that in April. Luckily, no cops have given me a ticket. And as I'm technically living in Northern VA, I needed an emissions inspection as well. Even though the stupid DMV still thinks I live in my college town- despite the fact that I've changed my address officially with them THREE TIMES NOW! I figured while I was there, might as well do both inspections.
I was the 4th car in line as I got there at 10am. My turn came at 11:30am which is pretty good. In the meantime I dozed on and off a little and I knocked out four pages in my notebook for one of the two stories for the S/R Fuh-Q-Fest. So now I've started them both and feel a lot better about them.
Turns out I had a problem with the left front lightbulb so I didn't pass the safety inspection but my car's emissions were just fine. Yayness. Service center guy tried to fix the problem but it was too hard to get to, so I have to go back. I feel badly for making him take so much time trying since there were 6 cars behind me in line (which I didn't know when I said he could try to quickly fix it... does anyone who's still reading this like the way I'm practically telling this story backwards? LOL!)
ANYWAY, I finished at the station around 12:15 and then decided to try and drive to Patomic Mills to catch the one and only afternoon showing of Kingdom of Heaven at 1:15. Well, I turned down two wrong roads trying to find the right way to get on the stree that leads me to the part of the drive over there that I know... I made 4 U-turns and wasted 20 minutes. So I finally just gave up and went the LONG way there.
The movie started at 1:15pm and I got there at 1:17pm. Not too bad considering all my stupid mistakes and the rain on top of that. So I missed a preview or two but I still got to see The Island preview again. Squeeeeeeee! I will NEVER tire of a wet!Ewan image up on the big screen. Nevah!
I really liked Kingdom of Heaven. I thought it was a lovely balance of character-drama and war-themes. Liam was bloody fantastic. And I was so incredibly impressed with Orli. He's come SO far, and all those people who said he could hold his own in this movie were absolutely right. I really loved this. Especially the lack of a squishy, mushy love portion. There was a love interest, of course, but I like the way that was part of the storyline, not a side story and not something that broke the point or feel to the movie at all. The logic and dialogue throughout was perfect. The sets and costumes were fantastic. And the music wasn't too bad either. I kept flashing to LotR several times (like when the music was playing as Orli's line of horses made their stand, and when they were defending the fortress) but that's to be expected, I suppose. Thewlis wasn't too bad- even though I still like him best in bad guy roles because he so rocks in those. In fact, by the end of the movie I'd warmed up to Thewlis MUCH more than I have in the last few years put together. So that's good. Oh, and it was WONDERFUL to see Alexander again as well! (Even though his sexy accent was somewhat limited due to his role) Lots of great men. Lots of great moments. Beautiful story. Strong characters (I adored the king to pieces). And now I have this HUGE urge to write blacksmith-smut.
Mmmmm... blacksmith-smut...
Drove home and got gas again at the cheep station. Excellent. *pets happy car* Then I went to Staples and copied some homework and notes for my calc tutoring. And on the way home from THAT, I stopped by my library as they're having a 3-day book sale starting today. I got there at 4:58 and they closed at 5 so I didn't buy anything, but the selection wasn't so thrilling (I walked around a little and looked) so I don't know. I'd like to buy a few moew books to BookCross with. So maybe I'll go over there early tomorrow afternoon and check things out.
I would VERY much like to buy second copies of all the HP books so I can mark them up for canon. But I didn't see any today which means there won't be any tomorrow, etc. I'll hit the used bookstore again sometime maybe.
Anyway... it's been a good day off thus far. Rather nice to spend a day all to myself doing errands and having fun :-)
