Top Ten Worst HL Eps

tarotgalNow that I think of it, I've never really compiled a list of my top ten least favorite episodes. It took me 2 weeks to write a top ten favorite list... so this is subject to change, especially the order. This is very hard to do, as it's my favorite show ever. ANd I will watch all episodes eagerly over nothing. But you know, there were over a hundred and they can't all be the best... so I'm going to try.
My Top Ten Least Favorite Highlander Episodes:
10.Blackmail- a bit of a stretch, plot-wise especially with the character who's supposed to be the baddie. I don't really know why I don't like it, it just doesn't do anything for me. OK, so the tape is a little clever- anything that shakes the watchers up a little is kinda cute to me. But really, they could have done this episode better in 15 minutes rather than drag out a full show
9.Mountain Men- I love Tessa, and I wanted her rescued, but even so this episode was so bad that I didn't really want to ever finish it. Do we need 5 minutes of watching Duncan fall down a cliff, pop all his bones back into place (with sound effects) and climb back up all bruised and bloody? Ok, maybe there's a certain charm when he goes all native, but honestly, the kidnappers deserved much worse than what they got for how annoying they were. Ug, and the script! Horrible! I was relieved when it was over just so I wouldn't have to watch any of the characters any longer. It's not further down on the list because I have a weakness for Carl (flashback) and for the scene where Tessa thinks the fight is over and starts towards Duncan, only to witness the Quickening. After which she holds him and pets him and awwww that saves it a little.
8.Deadly Explosure- Another butt-kicking chick audition, which is terrible. The plot is weak and full of holes on top of that. This episode only stands out as being bad. Otherwise, it blends into all the other attempts at auditions and trying to just get through the last half season. Nothing I can think of that was remotely spectacular.
7.The Blitz- The last scene saves it for me... I love sentimental, sweet Duncan (even if it is about Anne and even though he sort of owes it to her after he doesn't mention his immortality then she gets pregnant and he comes clean and messes up her life again) but otherwise HORRIBLE. Even the flashback did little for me. One less 'oh no, I'm trapped in X and I'm having a baby!' episode in this world would have suited me just fine! And to draw ties between the current day and the flashback during a war sort of makes the blitz not quite as bad as it was, you know?
6.The Beast Below- Even as a fan of Phantom of the Opera, I hated this episode. LOL It did not make much sense in the realistic way it was portrayed, and even though I liked the immie a bit (maybe felt sympathy for him would be a better term to use) I didn't really want him to die so pointlessly. Flashbacks were terrible (poor costume department) and plot was SO forced, and Richie so... ug... 1 dimensional again... No. Really, just no.
5.Reasonable Doubt- Ug. OK, I almost really like Maurice, and still I didn't like this episode. Very convoluted, could have been taken care of much more easily. Things were built up just for shock value, and even the cuteness of Duncan walking into a brothal did nothing to save this episode for me. Poor old Maurice. Too much of an attempt at giving his character more dimension than an old drunk chef. I still think of him as one-dimensional even after this episode. Just did not work. Duncan should have taken care of this from the start instead of letting it drag on for an hour.
4.Epitaph for Tommy- a pretty decent plot, ruined by things like a horrible negative-image montage and voice-over and obligatory cool Quickening with no link to the plot(could they not score a newspaper factory or something relevant?) Acting was ok but flashback was short and pointless as well.
3.Black Tower- ok come ON! I know they're trying to appeal to computer dorks like me and my other HL friends on the net but this was just stupid. The Austin Powers like villans, the imbacillic geek, the girl I just wanted to punch even before she was the baddie(which was so bloody obvious that Duncan should have known), and a horrible Quickening done primarily for the coolness factor (how many monitors/tv screens can we get to explode? Let's try and set a record)
2.Two of Hearts- many say it's the strongest of the spin-off series girl episodes. But honestly even if it was supposed to be a pilot for a new series, it's an episode of the original series above all and as such SUCKED. I needed Duncan. I really did. I came out bitter and I wanted him in it. Or at least SOME continuity or something. Bitter. It was a good pilot, but a horrible episode. Down with the but-kicking chick auditions!
1. Bad Day in Building A- aside from the idea of Duncan taking care of a little girl (which was done SO badly even with the cute faerie story he tells her) and a little strong woman action from Tessa, this was an absolutely horrible episode. It was a good try to get away from needing an immie in the episode, but still failed miserably.
Most people would put 'The Zone' on their lists... and it is a terrible episode. But I dunno, I think it's a good one for Charlie and he doesn't get a lot of good ones. More importantly, a freezing cold Duncan stuck in a giant freezer is very yummy, even if he doesn't sneeze. I've got weird taste, though, and things like that save episodes like 'Deadly Medicine'(Duncan's "oh my god" line is my favorite thing he says in the whole series, oddly enough) and 'Revenge of the Sword'(which has a great Italian flashback and a lot of cute moments like the vase and the car flip Charlie:"Crazy bastard, you think you can fly?" Duncan:"Thought I just did" and the monk)
Anyway... this is subject to change... just a fun way for me to spend an hour thinking :-)
