Friday Five- Music
Sep. 9th, 2005 01:31 am1) What was the first song you remember hearing and enjoying on the radio?
That's probably 'I Think We're Alone Now' by Tiffany but that's a really hard question!
2) If you could only listen to five CDs for a year, which five would they be? (Boxed sets can count as one CD. Sigh.)
Hmmm. Another toughie. And it would be better if I actually had my CD's in front of me.
1- RENT soundtrack by the original cast
2- Sons of Somerled by Steve McDonald (but it's a close tie with his Legend album)
3- A compilation tape made for me by a friend in high school of the Bawdy Balladeers songs (do tapes count as CD's?)
4- My mix CD of women folk artists (Dar Williams, The Indigo Girls, Ani Difranco, Joan Baez, etc.)
5- The Best of Queen box set
Paint the Sky with Stars by Enya and the Billy Joel box set are tied for 6th place though. Breaks my heart not to include them here! Ohhh... and then there's my favorite songs mix CD... gah! No! I'm sticking to those five! It's just for a year, right?
3) What was your favorite year, music-wise?
Oh gods. Um, I don't know years very well. Probably some time in the 80's because I adore 80's music. But I don't know which year. (Where's VH1's remember the 80's when you need it?)
4) If you could witness one historical music event through all time, what would you pick, and why?
A Queen concert. Preferably one of the later ones but one where they still played all their best songs. Because I adore Queen so very, very much for the music and the lyrics and their absolute brilliance and their style and their look. And since Freddie's dead it's not like I'm ever going to be able to go to a concert and watching them on TV's just not the same. Hope that counts as an historical event :-)
What'd you think I was going to say? A Beethoven concert or the birth of heavy metal or something?
5) Do you have a song that never fails to cheer you up? What is it and why does it do that for you?
I have a whole CD full of them now *EG* It used to be Wilson Phillips' 'Hold on for One More Day' because the message in the song was very comforting and reassuring. But now it's definitely Savage Garden's 'Affirmation' because it describes me and my outlook on life so perfectly that it makes me feel good to know I'm not coming out of left field with how I feel about things. No matter how horrible I feel, that song always makes me feel better, especially when I sing along at the top of my voice in the car with it blasting. *hits steering wheel in time to the tamborine beats* Plus, you know, nummy QaF images going through my head *EG*
