Stupid work
Nov. 29th, 2005 10:31 pmAgain, I've got to mention how incredibly random my job is. There's the accounting and marketing and website management and then, suddenly, my boss thrusts a paper at me that says "I need information and a picture of vomitoriums"
Oh gods. Can't you just feel my joy?!
No?
Can't imagine why not.
So here I am searching the web for vomitoriums, trying to avoid reading certain words and avoiding pictures associated with it. I found one article which was explaining how there was no such thing, and it had a lovely cartoon of, yeah, that. I put my hand over the screen just in case. And then at the end it asked if the reader was getting excited reading about this subject and explained about emetophilia. Believe me, I was ready to throw the damn laptop out of the window at that point. LOL And worse yet was the part where I had to read passages to Boss out loud. But I managed to quote Methos in an episode of Highlander and that made me feel a little better. And good on me for being brave. But... yeah... not the most fun research subject for me. Plus the whole fact that the damn things didn't actually exist! *sigh* Stupid job.
I probably should have refused the task altogether but I just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible without incident and didn't want to get into the whole emotional part of why I didn't want to do it. Not after my last mental breakdown on the job over a phobia. Doing the research was far less painful than trying to explain about a phobia.
On a happier note, I ran some errands on the way home and managed not to die in a car accident even though it was dark and raining. Yay. Ever since I saw 'Stay' I'm an extra careful driver but accidents do happen...
I got a small present for my family and I bought holiday cards. They're... not bad. They're "hand-crafted" which probably means some poor little child in China made them. They're not great, but they're okay. I've had the HARDEST time finding cards this year. I was almost reduced to buying photo cards and putting a picture of Maxwell in there. LOL Maybe I'll try to take a nice festive one of him this year for next year's cards, just in case...
I couldn't make it through the hockey game tonight (Devils vs Bruins). I went upstairs and curled up in bed (Max snuggled up with me in, like, 3 seconds flat) to watch The Amazing Race (which was taping downstairs anyway) and I fell asleep for 12 minutes in the middle. Doh!
I really needed it, though. I was exhausted when I got home today. These giftfics are zapping my late nights. The damn things will NOT be short. I keep telling them 3-5 pages MAX and some are going 7 or 10 or longer and it's like "HELLO MUSES? TG NEEDS SLEEP!!! TRY TO KEEP THE STORIES SHORT!" They won't listen though. I got a Q/O nonsneezefic bunny just yesterday. I'm not going to write it until I'm done with everything else, but MAN my muses don't know when to stop!
