Latter Days
Feb. 12th, 2006 06:05 pmI just discovered that my cable provider just added LOGO to our lineup. SQUEE! Apart from watching a little hockey today and some Olympics last night, it's been on constantly. For some reason they're playing Moulin Rouge (maybe I'm an idiot, but I'm not sure yet why- help?). And tonight they're showing Beautiful Thing which has been on my "must see" list for a while now. Last night they showed Psycho Beach Party which was weird but I've been wanting to see it for a certain actor ;-) So that rocked. Mmmmm. Wet & half-naked NB... VERY nummy.
But this afternoon I watched Latter Days, a very sweet (albeit predictable as all hell) movie about a gay Mormon. A good part of my adolescence consisted of me having a crush on a few Mormon elders I volunteered with at a donations center. So this was guuuhhhh-delicious. More importantly, I thought it really did an excellent job at approaching the issues of coming out to one's self and coming to terms with tradition, family, desire, and religious views, while not doing it to death as some heavier pieces do. It's going to repeat a few times this week and I'm totally going to tape it when it does. Plus OMG the Mormon boy was a real cutie and one scene near the end actually made me cry. I knew what was coming but that scene still took me by surprise and awww!
Anyway, I definitely recommend it. It's mostly a light and happy sort of thing- I expected it to be another lightweight, just for entertainment sort of thing. But, like I said, it manages to do the deeper topics justice as well.
On a not-so-related note, I started another short fic for the Annual Challenge this morning and finished it in about two hours. That makes 6 for me, and that's it. No more, Muses! Let me work on my Giftfic for GWT now!
