So what's new with you? Meme for friends
Jun. 13th, 2006 01:00 pmAll right, so I've barely seen my flist in a month or two or three... bad tg! *hangs head in shame*
So what I'd love is if everyone reading this now could comment here and tell me what they're up to. Got through another year of school? Finished a story? Saw a kickass movie? Had a baby? Moved to Iceland? Tell me and remove a little of my guilt! ;-) Seriously, I'd love to know how you all are doing and what's going on with you.
Thanks! :-)

Date: 2006-06-13 10:32 pm (UTC)I'm feeling like I've barely been around too. Still weeks behind on your LMOM fic. But loving what I've read.
Things have been busy here, school is almost out(next week). I love having my kids home for the summer. Had this weekend off, it was my daughter's bday, and I hesitate to admit this because it does show that I am way to old to be a fangirl with a fetish... but she turned 10 on Sunday. It was so amazing for me realizing that I became a mother ten years ago. She is such an awesome kid, she is a total HP freak too. She decided to read all the books in December after we saw GOF, and she finished the last one in April. (Note, proud mommy bragging)Tomorrow is book character dress up day for the reading festival at school and she is , of course, going as Hermione. My son(who is 6 and in kindergarten - and also a highly intelligent and amazing child) is going as Harry Potter. I'm reading him the books now, she was so excited about it that he didn't want to be left out. We truly are a geeky family :) My husband read the books long before I did.
Other than kid stuff, work has been crazy busy, but seems better lately and things have been stable with my mom.
I'm trying desperately to get my house organized and start walking again.
By the way, I have Life of Pi for you - you're next in the ring. I should be sending it soon.
Hope I didn't just bore you to tears :)

Date: 2006-06-13 11:29 pm (UTC)As I mentioned in my other reply to you today, I'll have been at the same hospital for 3 years now as of next week. One year as a resident, and 2 years as a full staff pharmacist. I work 4pm to 2am (3pm to 2am on weekends), 7 days on/7 days off, but I'm flirting with the idea of agreeing to become a full night pharmacist in the next year or so. It has advantages, like bonus pay and more shift differential, but it has drawbacks too, or we wouldn't have gone through 3 night pharmacists in the span of the same number of years. We'll see.
I have 3 weeks vacation coming up at the end of September that I don't know what to do with. I went to Vegas with sirenprincess for my last vacation, but our vacations won't match up this time. I want to go somewhere and do something different. I would LOVE to go to New Zealand then, but anything to get out of this area for awhile would be great. Only trouble is finding someone with the time and ability to do stuff with...I don't want to go alone, for both fun and safety reasons. Again, we'll see.
I've signed a lease for a 3rd year at the same lovely 2-bedroom apartment, but I'm seriously thinking of buying a house or buying/building a villa that I can attempt to decorate and start building some equity. Right now, the villa idea is winning because I hate working outdoors and don't want to have to take care of landscaping/mowing/snow removal and I'm more than willing to pay someone to do that for me. Yet again, we'll see...I feel like I'm living in limbo all the time now.
On a totally different note, I'm cat-sitting for my parent's cat, Emmie for two weeks. She's a calico, and way fluffier than Eowyn-kitty, so she's shedding a TON and coughing up hairballs quite frequenty. Being emetophobic, I'm having difficulty cleaning it up without gagging every few seconds and needing to leave the room for a minute to center myself, but at least it's bearable. *offers 'thank you' prayer that Eowyn has only gotten sick twice in the 3 years I've had her* There's been some hissy fights between cats, and Emmie is too timid to leave the spare bedroom (Eowyn's over-eagerness to play probably didn't help), but she seems to be doing okay otherwise.
Oh, and I had a fetish-related dream last night involving two gay men (one of whom looked just like Brian from QAF) having some fun in the men's bathroom, and I was listening to the sounds and action through an adjoining vent in the girls' bathroom. Just thought I'd throw that in there. *G*

Date: 2006-06-14 01:19 am (UTC)I have been trying to get into better shape. Working out everyday... taking my dog for a mile or two walk it my fav. kind of working out. He is only a year old and is just so much fun.
Big news is I just got engaged (hence the working out more)! So I am busy busy busy doing wedding planning. My dream job is to be a wedding planner, I just love it. I love planing special events (I am in PR so I come by it naturaly lol) so this is lots of fun for me. I have a little over a year to go, but if I could I would just plan it all in one month. I hate having to wait to do something, wait for a call back, etc. I just want to get right on top of these things and get them done so I know I have everything in order (yes... I was THAT kid in school that hated group projects and would have rather done the entire thing myself so I knew it was done right lol).
Alright, well... I think I have bored you enough with my mindless ramble.

Date: 2006-06-14 01:43 am (UTC)Awwww. You're such an awesome, enthusiastic mommy. Everyone should have a Mom as great as you, seriously. And the HP fanness in your house is enviable! And, wow, ten years old and finished reading all of the HP books? That's incredible! Good on her! I hope their costumes went over well- I'm thinking of turning my high school grad robe into an HP costume. You have such a cool family. ANd I know 50-something year old fangirls so no worries. From the little I've heard it sounds like you have such a wonderful family, I don't think you have anything to be ashamed about :-) I hope you have a great summer with them.
Excellent news about your mother. I'm really glad to hear it. And I wish you much luck with the house organizing. I still have moving boxes all over my room- I use them as furniture. LOL How much are you hoping to start walking?
Oh gosh on Life of Pi. I have another bookring book I'm not too far into. Must read faster! Ack! LOL I just realeased my 100th book into the wild tonight. So lots to celebrate today. heehee But I really must learn to read faster. :-)

Date: 2006-06-14 03:36 am (UTC)I'm soooooooo behind on SG-1. But that's what DVD's are for, right? I have a bunch of eps waiting on my Blockbuster Online queue starting with the defrosting Jack episode.
Wow, 3 years! That's fantastic! I'm so glad you settled somewhere you enjoy working so much. Good luck with the decision regarding being a night pharmacist- I'm sure you know by now how much you can (and want) to handle there so I'm sure you'll make the right decision, whatever it is.
Oohhh. Wow. Vacation time! Must be a nice problem to have! You're welcome in my neck of the woods any time you like... but I'm certain somewhere like New Zealand trumps D.C. anyday! Maybe you should look into one of those fan tours where you stay with a group the whole time? Make new fannish friends, get a special package, that sort of thing.
Awww, don't you just love cat dynamics? LOL I hear you about the hairballs. I swear, Maxwell and Eowyn could be twins. He's been sick maybe 3 times in all the time I've had him. He coughs/gags sometimes but nothing ever comes of it- he's such a perfect kitty if not for his plastic-chewing and poster-scratching. I find I'm not too bad with cat... er... ving as opposed to people. But I do still get a bit panicked sometimes so I definitely understand. *warm hugs of support* I hope the rest of her visit goes smoothly- I'm sure they'll get adjusted just when it's time for Emmie to go. (Funny... yesterday I just named a new character Emmey)
Thank you for the catch-up! :-) Did you get a chance to read the last fic on Axe_Bow and the related discussion yet? ;-)

Date: 2006-06-14 03:45 am (UTC)*Hugs* Good for you for working at a non-profit. Though I understand about the financial problem. I've done a lot of volunteering for orgs that lost excellent staff for that reason. I will keep my fingers crossed in spirit for you as well in regards to your interview- let me know how it goes. Good luck!!
Working out every day! Wow, you're making me feel guilty! I haven't worked out in a year *gulp* What kind of puppy do you have? I have a cat but I adore dogs. They really are great excuses for exercise, aren't they? heehee
Oh my gods! CONGRATS on your engagement!!! *hugs* That's fantastic!!! I hope you're doing the small disposable cameras on each table if you have a reception. Those are always fun for guests and great keepsakes for the wedded couple (who's been to WAY too many weddings lately? *tg raises her hand*). I love planning, too, but never did much professionally- I totally hear you about the group project things. I was always the person who had to do it all because I'm a perfectionist and my group members were always slackers. LOL I wish you so much luck and fun with your preparations! When is the happy date?

Date: 2006-06-14 05:53 am (UTC)And yes, I got to read that Axe_Bow fic and the discussion. It was cute and funny, and could have easily been one one of our other fic lists without making many changes at all. The only thing I would have changed, other than the spellings, would be extending the end part with Legolas quite a bit (big surprise there, huh?). It always amuses me to hear discussion like that from 'normal' people too. I, too, totally got a kick at how nonchalant and overconfident Legolas was in his 'superior' Elven immune system. *G* Let's hear it for elf/dwarf fics!
Regarding the vacation, I haven't been to the DC area since I was in junior high, so it might be very neat to see it again as an adult (and with you as a resourse to tell me all the good places to see). *G* And I've looked into the NZ tour options, and it's tempted, but part of me is too chicken to make that kind of long trip without anyone I know. Yeah, I'm a wuss, I know...

Date: 2006-06-14 06:00 pm (UTC)Went and saw X-Men 3 with my 25 year old son. I loved it - and if anyone has not seen it - make sure you stay till the very end (after the credits) you will be in for a surprise.
I too will always be a loyal LOTR fan. Gotta love the elf. I am however looking forward to POTC2- Yum!

Date: 2006-06-15 02:04 am (UTC)I don't have a lot to say either I guess, my life is pretty boring right now, but like you said, you asked for it eh? *G*
I just got back a while ago from doing about 8 months of volunteer work with people with learning disabilities, and that took me to England for the most part and then around Europe for quite a while. I fell a bit behind on everything here though, for lack of a computer.
Since I got back I've been desperately looking for a job, and might have found one at the liquor store for the summer....I'm heading off to university in September so I'm having problems finding places that will just hire me for two and a half months...I don't like lying and saying that I'll be here when I won't.
Other than that, I've been trying to think of some new, or old, fandoms that strike my fancy for 'fic writing right now...I liked writing my last Gravitation so much I might try continue that one on.
Anyways, congratulations on getting that job!

What's new? Hmmmm, not much. Got a puppy almost 2 years ago, and she is so cute. You would love her. I'll send you a pic if you like.
Just keeping out of trouble here. No fun, but what can you do.
