David Thewlis?!
Feb. 17th, 2003 06:43 amUg... every few days I go throught this same mood. DAVID THEWLIS? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? DAVID THEWLIS??? I think both my cat and my boyfriend have heard me shout this a hundred times already. He is not my Professor Lupin. He looks a little Lupin, like, but the rest of his looks (like hair loss) and his whiney voice, no!
I am a big fan of The Tenth Kingdom. Huge fan. It was written by my boy Simon who also wrote the original draft of Dinotopia, though they butchered it and even he wasn't pleased with the outcome. Still, I liked Dinotopia. I have it on DVD along with the Tenth Kingdom, HP, LoTR and only about twenty-five others. It means a lot when I get something on DVD... and I've got Dinotopia. I liked Thewlis in Dinotopia. He does horrible, mean, cratchedy, crippled, and whiney very well. And he bites it in the end, which is another positive thing about the movie- you're not supposed to love him, just understand him! And I loved his portrayal- he was brilliant and did unlikable in a logical and wonderful way. But as Lupin? NO!
I saw Dragonheart years back in theaters... and have always hated, HATED the guy who played the prince. I have honestly always thought him to be one of the most unattractive men I have ever seen on screen. Come to find out, that, too, was David Thewlis.
Uck! This guy as my sweet, charming Lupin? This guy comforting Harry with tea in his office? This guy crackling 'Expecto patronum'? This guy embracing Gary Oldman in the shrieking shack? Ok... I can see him being bound by Alan Rickman all right, but the rest, NO! Pleeeeeease no! Yes, I'm sure the casting people know what they're doing... and I've agreed on all their choices to date... and Gary as Sirius- I can see that. Not my fave, but I can totally see it. And Timothy as Peter- PERFECT. But Thewlis... I'm sure I'll cope when I see the movie... but dear Gods there are SO many better choices, even if he does have a nice accent and could pull off the rundown professor look. His hair... His voice... no. DAVID THEWLIS???!!!
