Date: 2006-07-01 01:14 pm (UTC)I'm also glad you got to see Wilde, though I'm amazed that you managed to sit through Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. I wouldn't even pay money to rent that one.
I still need to see King Kong, but I'm hesitating because of the bug scene. I can't even watch HP:Chamber of Secrets during the spider scene without covering my eyes at least twice or watching through my fingers, and I know what Weta can do with bugs, so I've been dragging my feet on Kong for awhile now.

Date: 2006-07-24 01:19 am (UTC)I wouldn't say it was a brilliant movie. I had it on while I was writing and was able to follow it just fine, so maybe that's saying something. It was pretty predictable and understandable (man creates machine, machine becomes smarter than man, machine tries to KILL US ALL). I'd say wait for it to be on TV... and/or pick a day to watch it when you're looking for entertainment and nothing deep and brilliant. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's mindless entertainment... and it's not BAD (I definitely enjoyed it and the characters) but it's nothing *special*.

I'm in LOVE with that movie. Especially as Ioan boy was in it, too! But how could I not love it?

It's pretty terrifying what I can sit through, crap-wise. I saw the first one in theaters with my roommate in college, so it was part nostalgia that made me watch it on In Demand. There were some absolutely dreadful moments (well, most of the movie was dreadful moments)... but at least 3 or 4 really great jokes (mostly of the self-insulting kind) that I'm glad I saw.
King Kong... I liked it, and I LOVE Peter J, don't get me wrong. But I still like the original better. I don't like remakes usually. If it's not broke, don't fix it. I didn't know much about it apart from the basic plot (except my sister saw it and said it was hilarious... which I don't agree with but my sister is NUTSO) but the bug scene surprised me. I don't mind scenes with giant insects. I was fine with HP & LotR. But what completely creeps me out are large, slimy thing that eat people. I think it started when I was a young kid and saw the first few minutes of The Blob. TOTALLY freaked me out. I switched the channel after THe Blob's first kill, screaming. Well, there's a scene just following the insects that I could not stand to watch. I literally screamed out loud and covered my eyes until it was all over (not even watching through my fingers, just listening for the scene to be over). I NEVER do that with movies (except when there's v-ing involved, and then I don't actually scream... though maybe I'll hum). ANYWAY, my point is I was totally freaked out and was shocked and surprised about that. So, yeah, I know what you mean. The bugs were very realistic, though if you remind yourself it's just special effects... might not be so bad. If it helps, there's some funny sneeze moments near the beginning. Old guy, but I got a kick out of the discussion about fake sneezing.

Date: 2006-07-24 01:36 am (UTC)As for Pleasantville, it's sort of the case where EVERYONE tells you how good it is and how you HAVE to see it. And then you finally see it and yeah, it's just as good and wonderful as everyone said it was and what more is there to say? It was great! After seeing small parts of it so many times, I'm glad I finally saw it from start to finish.
