Mpreg Fanfic
May. 4th, 2003 12:52 amI read my first Mpreg story just now.. I needed a break from my studying and it came in e-mail so what the heck, I felt adventurous. I have up til now not exactly avoided them, but there are SO many fics out there and so little time to read that they just haven't made the top of any of my lists. But I went for it... and whoa. Weirdness.
It was an Aragorn/Legolas fic (which I don't read much of since I adopted my Legolas/Gimli preference but read for light enjoyment occasionally) and weird... it was a nice romantic, loving sort of thing, and I liked Haldir's teasing of pregnant Legolas. But it was weird. A little too weird for me.
I mean, I can see why it would be appealing for many reasons(the feminine traits, men having to deal with the same problems and emotions, lots of angst, lots of confusion and comforting and pain of childbirth, etc.), and I'm the last person to frown on something creative and unconventional... it's just a little weird to me. But I'm glad to have given it a shot. lol
Which got me thinking about just how neat fanfic really is... we take characters and do COMPLETELY different things to them... slash them, imprgnate them, give 'em sexy head colds *G* It's a really nice, unrestrictive medium for fun. Mpreg didn't really do much for me, but at least I can say I read one- and it wasn't bad... just confusing and a little odd. One of my favorite vidders wrote a Duncan/Methos Highlander Mpreg story that's very long... I've always been a little hesitant to read it... immies aren't supposed to be able to have childred at all- even the female ones. So it's a little weird to think of a male immortal pregnant... but the creativity is very alluring and I think I'm just really enjoying the concept of fanfic- to allow really anything to happen and as long as it's written well (aye, there's the rub!) then it's believable. I just don't think it's anything I'd ever write myself. Like Lucius/Harry for example. I've read a few stories, and can see how the possibilities are interesting, but it's NOT for me. *shakes with squickiness, assuming that's a word, lol*
I can totally see a baby being forced into Haldir's arms with the demand that he babysit while Legolas and Aragorn steal away for a quick shag... but how the baby gets there... er... not really my thing, LOL. I like Haldir. He's an interesting character. heehee
OK, back to this darn paper! :-)

Reg: You want to have babies!?
Stan: It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.
Reg: But you can't have babies.
Stan: Don't you oppress me.
Reg: I'm not oppressing you, Stan -- you haven't got a womb. Where's the fetus going to gestate? You going to keep it in a box?

And it's good to know the confusion is mutual. More power to the people who are into it and able to do that kind of thing with the freedom of fanfic... I just... *shrug*
