I finished reading the 5th book today and I started book 6. With any luck, I'll be able to get through it before Friday. *crosses fingers*

This time reading it was very strange. I started it, went to see it in movie form, then finished it. Very strange experience.

I loved it as much as ever, though. I listened to Snape's worst memory twice, because of how much I love that scene... and Harry's talk with Sirius & Remus about it. *sigh* SO many magical moments in this book. So dark and awful, but also so wonderful. I'd forgotten how much I hate Dumbledore for causing this by not telling the truth. I wanted to throw stuff off my desk and yell at the old man, too. And then, about half an hour later... I was calm and actually feeling better about him as he came in person to pick Harry up and trust him with truths. I've never read books 5 and 6 back to back. In fact, the only time I've ever read book 6 was the weekend it came out. I've picked it up many times to read parts or look up details, but never read it from start to finish. So this will be very interesting.

But about book 5... It's so difficult to compare it with 1, 2, and 4. It's a different sort of style, and devoid of the sorts of stunning character twists. But it's still incredibly moving. And it still brings tears to my eyes. The anger at the ministry and Umbridge is still there and I was still on the edge of my seat the whole time. Even though it's difficult to compare it... I think I still put it second when ordering the books as my favorites, because there are SO many great moments- from cleaning the house to Lupin and the werewolf, Neville coming into his own to OWLs, Fred & George's pranks to Weasley is our King, Snape's worst memory to the fireside chat, Hagrid & Minnie fighting to the kids & Order fighting, the prophecy to inner house and inner species relations, loveable old characters who grow to new characters to love. I could go on forever...

Over the weekend, I also put together all my HP Lego sets. I should take a picture...

I have read and re-read "Snape's Worst Memory". It's my favorite chapter in OotP. I agree that OotP is a very dark story. It had to be the worst year in Harry's life and I remember so clearly reading it the first time thinking "How much else can this poor boy take???" It was one terrible event tothe next and of course, not having Dumbledore or Hagrid for most of the book, to turn to made it much, much worse.

However, there were many moments where I laughed out loud, like when Mrs. Weasley was congratulating Ron about making prefect and she said "That makes everyone in the family!" and the twins are like...HUH???? Harry and Ron's experiences in the Divination OWL were hilarious, and you could tell Harry had many good times in the DA - which I thought they did a great job with in the movie!

By the way, I was thinking about this the other day and I have decided my favorite chapter in the entire series is "Priori Incantatum"
