Don't you HATE it when food/drinks you like get discontinued?

I drink a lot of Brisk Diet Iced Tea in cans. Cans are easy (don't require washing glasses) and I can't drink anything with carbonation/bubbles or too much Vitamin C so that really limits my choices to... iced tea (and maybe once in a while a lemonade). I don't really like the taste of Nestea Iced Tea, so for the last 7 years or so I've survived almost entirely on Brisk. BUT NOW I can't find Brisk Diet Iced Tea ANYWHERE. All the stores that sold it suddenly don't sell it any more! They still stock regular in cans and bottles, but not diet. I know they recently redesigned the cans... maybe the stores are just waiting for a new shipment? But what the heck do I drink now?

Worse than that, for the last, like, 20+ years my favorite crackers (and pretty much the only ones I eat, actually) are Low Sodium Triscuits. I don't much care for salt. So I always get Low Sodium varieties of anything... and Triscuits were the best. If you put the cheese/peanut butter on the flatter side, and then held the cracker so the rounder side faced down and touched your tongue, it was the perfect balance of taste and flavor. Plus Triscuits alone are just YUMMY- I've loved them since I was 6. They're my staple. I ALWAYS have at least one box handy. But now... they don't seem to MAKE the Low Sodium ones any more! It used to be difficult to find them in certain stores... I'd buy them 2-4 at a time. But now I can't find them in any stores anywhere. They have reduced fat, yes, but I don't care about fat, I care about SALT. And the reduced fat ones still have a ton of salt. *sigh* I can stand them if I cover the salt side with cheese/peanut butter, but it's still not a perfect solution.

Other foods I'm incredibly disappointed not to find any more:
-Mint skittles (they were like breath mints but probably really bad for you cuz they were candy... they tasted delicious though! Came in blue and green plastic flip-top holder things)
-Morning Star Farms original pizzas- Originally, the pizzas had no pepperoni and were a little bigger. I used to eat 3 or 4 a week easily. But then they introduced the "new and improved" ones which were smaller and had fake pepperoni on them. I used to have to take a fork and pry off the frozen pepperoni before cooking- otherwise the entire pizza tasted like it after cooking. However, I haven't been able to find either version in my stores for at least a year, maybe two.
-Morning Star Farms Chick'n pot pies- Used to be with the pot pies, then they moved to the Morning Star Farms products and now I can't find them anywhere. They were so yummy, though

I guess maybe this just hits me hard because the variety of foods I eat is so small already, you know? I'm like Monk in that respect. I find things I like and then only eat those things- in large quantities. When I eat out at a restaurant I usually order whatever I ordered the last time I was there; I never try new things if I can help it. LOL And with store-bought foods, I usually only get adventurous when I don't have a choice and then I choose brands I already like (like, I'll try other triscuits, even though I've hated all the ones I've tried already and regret it immediately). *sigh*

Grrr...It totally annoys me when they do that with no warning with anything. I like being set in my ways. Besides, I'm picky because I have to be, not because I chose to be (I know you can understand that) and it drives me nuts to have to find something new to eat because they decided that what I was eating didn't need to exist anymore. And different brands just aren't the same (and some of them are really gross and sometimes the exact same item from different brands will make me sick in one brand and not in another). Just when you finally find stuff you like, it disappears on you. Arghh.

And yeah, with restaurants, every time I go out to eat, I say I'm going to be adventurous and try something new, and after staring at the menu for 10 minutes, chicken out and go with my usual. Although, as I usually eat at the same restaurants, I usually have 2 usual entrees just for a bit of variety, but getting to the point where I had a second one took time.

I made my own Morning Star chick'n pot pie thanks to this post. It's really not hard. You tweak the recipe to a regular chicken pot pie and use a bag of the Morning Star Chick'n strips, cut into pieces. And for the chicken broth use water with pultry seasoning (which has nothing to do with real chicken, it's just a bunch of spices that are supposed to make chicken taste baetter) and dried sage. Then just cook about as normal. I thought my mouth was going to die of happiness.

Hope this helps, Gayle (who lost her LJ thanks to not updating and will get another one soon)
