Okay, so to start off with the AIDS Walk, it went SO WELL! I ended up not doing the route; I was put at the team sign table, which is great because you get to meat all the team leaders. But it wasn't so great because not all teams had signs made (you had to have 10 or more people registered in your team before Sept 25). The weather was perfect- it got up to about 90 degrees mid-day but the sun stayed behind clouds all morning and there was a cool breeze as well all morning, which was great. The first ever AIDS run was a success for the most part and the post-walk entertainment was wonderful. I wish I could have seen the introduction with Chip (Amazing Race) and the Gay Men's Chorus singing (I met the team leader and congratulated him on their fundraising, though). Scott (a former volunteer captain of mine) tracked me down midway through the morning and hugged me then called me a traitor for not volunteering under him this year *G* He's a sweetie- he and his friend (who I also got to see again that morning) drive up from Richmond every year for the walk... which makes my waking up at 5:30am and taking the Metro into DC look like nothing. I helped out around Freedom Plaza after it looked like most teams had showed up to claim their signs. There were a few stumbling blocks, as always (we ran out of water bottles at the end of the walk and had to bring in cups and tanks with spouts, we ran out of shirts again but we kept a good list of walkers who didn't get their shirts, and I think there was something about not being able to register runnings that morning- they had to preregister only). Otherwise, it was a roaring success and we raised more than $800,000! Thank you everyone who sponsored me and wished me well yesterday!
I got my GPS on Friday and set it up yesterday, too. It's a bit flawed in places, but nothing that's been a problem yet. It's really neat to be able to get exactly where I need to go :-) I dropped my car off at the dealer tonight (after FINDING the dealer thanks to Jill, my GPS unit) to get an oil change and the keyless remote looked at.
My parents and I ewnt to Clifton Day today. It's an old town craft fair type event. They had a VRE train going straight there and back, and the station is a block or two from our house. So we took the train in (for free) and walked around. It's October and it's FRICKING 90+ degrees!!! It was SO hot and humid and sunny. My mother doesn't like the sun much, and it got to her pretty quickly. She wanted to go home but the train didn't leave for another hour. So she found a shady place to sit while Dad and I visited the last few booths. I got a nice ornament for my BookCrossing ornament exchange buddy. And I got myself a little something *G* After rejoining mother, a few minutes later, she starts getting heat stroke. She nearly passed out, then she freaked out with a panic attack on top of heat stroke. Dad had already left to get water and took, like, 15 minutes *rolls eyes* and I've never seen my mother freaking out quite this much before so I was worried. She was lying down but kept trying to get up. Finally she said she needed a doctor and I ran over to the VRE people, who didn't have a phone. The toy store, did, and they called 911 for me. I went back and sat with her until the medics arrived and took her vitals. At which point in time the train came. It was a split second decision but I took the train back home while Dad stayed with Mom. Then I drove the van to Clifton to pick them up. Thankfully, the medics gave good directions through my dad (most of the town was blocked off because of the festival so I couldn't use the GPS's route for the tricky portions). Luckily, Mom's all right. She just got majorly overheated. We'd brought a bunch of water and bandanas and bought some water and cold drinks, but apparently that wasn't enough. The nice people working the booths kept checking on us and even brought over an ice pack, too. So that was nice. It was scary but I'm glad she's okay. Kind of a crappy way to end the trip, though.
I' m utterly exhausted right now. I have SO much to do tonight... that I should have done yesterday... so we'll see.
Oh, and I'm buying WAY too much on eBay. I really need to set a spending limit. Now that I actually make money and have a good savings & student loan repayment plan, I feel like buying a lot that I want. I need to cut back. It's not reckless... but it's not good. :-)
