Awesome night
Oct. 22nd, 2007 12:37 amI had an awesomely cool night. BookCrossing friend picked me up tonight and we went to her Sci-Fi club which was having a meeting/gathering. We only caught the last hour or so (it went a little longer than it was supposed to). It was a meeting merged with another Trekkie group, too, so there were lots of neat people- most in costume (in honor of Halloween) and some very nice-looking gentlemen. How strange is it that I instantly get turned on by cute men dressed up as William Riker? LOL I guess it makes sense in the end, but, still, lots of very nice people. ANd everyone was sooooo easy to talk to. I love fangirls & fanboys. We talked about everything from Torchwood to trying to remember the name of Worf's pet from season 1 (we never did come up with the name, though we're pretty sure it wasn't fluffy). One guy seemed especially nice and is sort of new to the area and suggested I try Meetup.com which is how he found out about the various sci-fi clubs in the first place.
Friend and I went one for drinks afterwards with one of the guys (who was especially cute) and talked a lot- I'm not good at knowing if he actually "liked" us (I don't flirt and need guys to just come right out and say it, you know?) but I think he was happy to have two lovely ladies all to himself. And, get this, HE USED TO BE A HOCKEY PLAYER! Not only a geek who works for the new Star Trek series but he's also a hockey boy who played for Hershey, among other teams. OMG how cool!
It was a very nice night, and I hope I'll be able to join one or both groups and make more fandom-friendly friends to do fun fandom things with in RL. Not that I don't ADORE my flist *hugs* but sometimes it's nice to be able to go watch a movie and talk with someone about it in person :-)
Anyway, just wanted to share my happy fangirly moments.
Oh, I also discovered that there are fanfic podcasts. Does anyone subscribe to any they can recommend? (Or any that suck and I should stay away from?) I sometimes listen to audiobooks at work so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to listen to fanfic :-)

Date: 2007-10-22 11:37 pm (UTC)Hopefully things work out with the clubs, and the sci fi/hockey man. He sounds so much like he would be your type. The whole dating thing seems terrifying to me now.(My husband and I had our first date almost 18 years ago now...)
Keep me/us posted :)
