*The Annual SF Challenge deadline has been extended to April 4th. So get writing, people!
*My computer is dying- been having lots of problems. Managed to revert to an earlier system registry in order to finally get it to start up so I could back up my e-mail (I just backed up all my files last week- took 3 bloody days but it's worth it). I'm going to buy a new computer from Dell this week. Soooo many decisions. Sooooooooo much money. I was hoping my computer could hold out another paycheck or two buy that's what savings is for, right? Sheesh. Poor computer *pets* My computer is anout 6 years old now so it's about time for a new one. Plus I have an old monitor and parts of the desktop are burned into the screen. Oops.
*I'm totally, utterly addicted to Torchwood. Can't get enough. But I'm terrified to go onto communities because they're all filled with spoilers. I was just spoiled for something by someone's icon while I was icon searching so I'm even more paranoid now. Meep! And SOMEONE (I'm not naming names but it starts with a Space and ends with a Wolf) submitted a Torchwood plot bunny to the weekly hatching that I CANNOT get out of my mind. I friggin LOVE it. It's like my very own private showing of a Torchwood episode going on in my head. Bloody fantastic!
*My scarf- I'm almost done with the first step of knitting my Gryfindor scarf for Moony. The beginning is crap, so I'm going to rip that out. And then I have to learn how to do the last bit at the end and then how to weave in all the loose ends where I changed colors (there are so many loose ends!) but I still feel a nice sense of accomplishlemt. THere was a Harry Potter knitting group meet-up on Sat but I didn't go because things were still crazy in my world on Sat.
*Celebrated my dad's birthday today. His bday was Feb 20 but he had to fly to Iowa to be with my grandmother before she passed away so we didn't get to celebrate then. Twas a nice night. I rented him a DVD (he went with me yesterday to pick one out), I bought him a card that plays the Pink Panther theme song (which amused him to no end), and I got him a large package of CD labels (he got a record/tape-to-CD burner for Christmas and now he can make pretty labels to put on all the CDs he burns). I also bought him a nice pastry and gave it to him the actual morning of his bday before all the shit hit the fan.
*I'm now a library volunteer!!!!!!!!!!!! I stopped by the library after work on Thursday for a meeting with the coordinator and instead of the Adopt a Shelf thing, they're putting me to work as an actual volunteer. I agreed to work Saturday mornings before I realized that means I won't be able to sleep in. DOH! But I had SO much fun on Sat morning, checking in all the books that came in through the bookdrop overnight, learning about what to do with damaged books, and then doing some of the Pick List (going around and pulling books off the shelf that are to go to other libraries because of holds people have placed and such). It was delightful. I can't wait to go again.
*I have to get 10 volunteer hours in for VT-ENGAGE, a program Virginia Tech set up to honor the victims of the April shooting last year. Since our motto is "That we may serve" the idea is everyone is supposed to put in hours serving the community. So I signed up to volunteer at two different libraries, and I'm going to be helping out doing web work for a Cairn terrior rescue group- all things I've been wanting to do for a while now, but now I had an actual kick in the arse to do it. Should be easy to get 10 hours in by April at this rate.

*Doctor Who- I just got the first Doctor Who (new series) comic last week. Haven't read it yet since I'm not sure when it's set and don't want to be spoiled. I'm finally getting the series on DVD through Blockbuster Online. The first disc is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Gods I hope it's the right disc because I'm dying to see the series and get properly caught up. Sure, Torchwood has spoiled me for Jack but I'm glad I didn't wait and there isn't all that much overlap/spoilers in Torchwood so no worries there. Yay!
*I got my hair trimmed yesterday. I had split ends, but now it's all nice again and not too much shorter. I should be able to grow it out a few more inches and cut it off by the end of the year for Locks of Love.
*I've considered doing ScriptFrenzy this year. Even thought maybe Ace & Pit's excellent cross country adventure would make a nice script. But I really don't have the time, realistically. Plus May is the big month-long Lusty Month over at pervy_werewolf and two months of writing so much every day in a row will be difficult to handle
*The Girl Scout Cookies I ordered came in tonight! Mmmmmm! Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Do-Si-Dos. Tagalongs have always been my favorites. Sooooooooo yummy. I can spend half an hour eating one cookie, savoring its goodness (and I have). And Thin Mints are delightful. And sometimes I crave Do-Si-Dos. But I'm not a huge Samoa fan. I KNOW they're, like, everyone's favorites, but they're far superior to my favorites, IMHO. So don't you dare try to talk them up. Not here on my blog. A Samoa free zone, this is! Safe for the proper appreciation of all the other girl scout cookies! ;-)
*I've got another Harry Potter meet-up tomorrow. We'll be discussing the fandom in general (i.e. how to keep our HP fannishness going now that the books have all been written). I think that's an important concept for any fandom, really, so if I learn something new, I'll share it. But I've got to say that podcasts and meet-ups are top on my list.
*The Capitals' new players- holy crap! I'm so sad because it means we're probably going to lose Ollie and I love the man. But OMG I will be in heaven if we make the playoffs this year! *crosses fingers*
*My Christmas tree is still up. Gods I'mlazy busy.
