LEGOS & Lupin
Sep. 1st, 2008 12:46 amNot as cool as Dragon*Con, obviously, but I went to see BrickFair, the LEGO convention here in town. I was a little worried since the org that ran the con decided last year only to put it on in Oregon, not on the East Coast (they did two a year and dropped ours). Some fans were desperate for more LEGO fun and after last year's disappointment, decided to run it themselves (the fact that a new LEGO store just opened 2 miles from the venue doesn't hurt, either). After recent disappointments regarding fan-based, first-time cons, I was quite impressed. Some rooms were pretty hot, there were too many people to be able to see everything I wanted closely (they advertised the hell out of this baby- had more than 5,000 attendees yesterday), and some of my favorite things from the first time I went to a LEGO event weren't there. But I'd definitely rate it an 8 on a 10 point scale of fun.
Obviously the fannish ones were my favorites (rescuing Sirius from HP Book 3 scene, recreation of scenes from Indiana Jones & Star Wars, and Doctor Who & Rose in front of the TARDIS). But there were some simply stunning pieces. I went into the castle room twice because I wanted to be sure to see everything. Though I went into the main room twice, too. Had to get my $10 out of it, didn't I? heehee I was thinking of buying some of the bags of random blocks that they had... but SO expensive! Reminds me of how expensive a hobby this is. Even so, next year I'm going to build something and participate. I really am. I was hoping for some Dr. Horrible goodness, too, but I guess it's too recent. Anyway, yes, I WILL build something awesome and participate next year. I want in on the fun!
I saved a LEGO icon a while ago... wonder where it got to on my computer? Would be appropriate now...
In other news, I'm SUCH a slacker and really need to get going with the Sirius/Remus FQF piece that I wanted to have done months ago. I need to get it betaed, like, NOW. Which means I have to start actually writing it.
Also, just finished season 1 of Jeremiah. Really like it (eye candy angsty boys doesn't hurt, either). Am SO bummed to find out there isn't a season 2 dvd set! So am taping every episode that comes on tv. I missed the beginning on the Sci-Fi channel so am taping the end of season 1. And the CW (like the WB here, locally) is in the middle of season 1. I hope they show season 2, also. Then I can watch the beginning on the CW and finish it off on Sci-Fi. Ugh. Why don't they just put out a S2 DVD already? LOL
I'm trying to start Dexter Season 1 but my computer DVD player insists on updating itself. And it's taking forever and a day. Which is why I'm typing all this out :-)
Oh, also, Tina recommended I try this quiz to find out who my HP-verse husband is. I was thrilled with the result!

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...
Mrs. Lupin

You like a nice, kind guy with a bit of a fierce streak and you don't mind if he comes damaged. Sure, he may take some convincing since his self-esteem's so low, but once you win him over, you know he's yours for life. Unless of course he has an attack of "I'm not good enough" and runs away, but luckily he's also good at making friends who will push him back into line if necessary.
