Monday- woke up at 3am to find mother had passed out, gotten sick, and fallen down the stairs. When she came to, it took 30 minutes to get her to agree to go to the hospital. After tons and tons of tests, then finally discharged her Thursday because she was feeling better and they had run out of tests do to to try to figure out what was wrong. She's home safe & sound and feeling better now. But it was a scary week full of hospital visits.
Tuesday- volunteer luncheon at one of the two libraries I volunteer at. This year's surprise theme: Hawaii! Was really nice and lots of fun.
Thursday- due to the libraries cutting back on everything, including hours, my shift at the other library was eliminated. Luckily, they can squeeze me in on Mondays instead. So I can still volunteer there. Yippie!
Friday- Caps won! SQUEE!!!!!!!! I wore my Rock the Red t-shirt, and then had to wash it in order to wear it again on Sunday.
Saturday- Jim's funeral was really nice. I should have gone up and said something but I was crying too much. I'm such a mess at funerals. But it was so nice to meet his family finally (his daughters are my age or younger, so it was so hard to see them saying goodbye to their father). At night, family finally celebrated my birthday. Mom & Dad fixed up the patio under the deck outside my door for me. Now it's a nice little area. As soon as we get a nice chair, I can go out and read/write there, like my own little sanctuary. I also got some nice stuff like the first two Ink-series books in paperback and Yes Man on DVD and the 2008 Dar Williams CD (and some wonderful presents from friends, too! *hugs*)
Sunday- All-day marathon of Lord of the Rings at a movie theater not too far from house (about half an hour away, if that). Doors opened at 11:30 and the last movie ended at 10:30. It was SO much fun to watch them all back-to-back in the theater, surrounded by a bunch of equally committed fans. There was clapping all over (each time a movie started or the title was displayed or ended, after particularly good moments), there was laughing at all the good parts and not too much laughing at Gimli's expense, there was even a little booing at times and hissing whenever Wormtongue said something horrible. I was especially thrilled that one of my favorite parts (that no one seems to find as moving in RL as I do) when the line of signal towers are lit got applause by the audience. The leader of the Fellowship of the Beltway meetup group even took her cell phone out and waved it in time to the music like we were at a concert during that part. I was crying, of course, but so happy to know it was just as moving for all the people around me; I hadn't expected that. There was also a reading of the very secret diaries, a costume contest, and a Gollum impersonation contest.
AND my Capitals won again! I'm doing laundry now in order to wear the same shirt a third time on Tuesday.
Tomorrow- I'll be seeing the new Star Trek movie at an early premiere in DC with the local Star Trek meetup group. Should be fun! (And cute hockey-playing geek boy will be there. Wonder if he'll remember me after 1.5 years? Probably not)
Oh! And a few stories from Round 2 of the Sneezefic Annual Challenge were posted today, including one Torchwood fic I wrote quickly. Hope it doesn't such too much. I wrote it in an hour or two on Friday just to submit something.

Date: 2009-04-27 04:49 am (UTC)Oooh, I'm so jealous of your LOTR day! Trilogy Tuesday was a magic day back in 2003, and I'd love to get to relive that again, especially since LOTR seems to have faded quite a bit in popularity in recent years. I'm with you on the beacon lighting scene. It's beautiful and powerful, even if I usually don't tear up during ROTK until near the end.
Darnit all, I posted feedback for your new TW fic, and it looks like it got eaten because I don't see that it ever showed up to the group. Suffice it to say, I found it very cute and fun the SUV sex was plenty yummy! ;-)
