Helping Haiti Heal
Feb. 6th, 2010 03:33 pmI'm really blown away by the generosity of fandoms. The Harry Potter Alliance is finishing its campaign tonight and it just hit $119,000. http://thehpalliance.org/haiti/
I'm guilty of donating way more than I can afford but it's for a good cause. They've had enough donations to charter 3 planes to Haiti with supplies for Partners in Health (which has been working in Haiti for 20+ years)... and they've named the planes Harry, Ron, and Hermione :-)
The auction ends tonight. I hope I win something, but there have been SO many people donating that I probably don't have a chance. Still, it makes me feel good to donate because it helps people and shows the power of fandom. Which is the whole reason I started a local Harry Potter Alliance chapter. And I was lucky enough to tune in during the last few minutes of John Green's second telecast and I donated enough to get a signed book from him. Um, getting a signed book from your favorite author while helping the people of Haiti? Seriously, how can you beat the awesome that is that? So jokes. So incredibly jokes.
