tarotgalOK, I just finished watching The Breed (after the hockey game, of course! Whoohooo!!!) It starred Adrian Paul as a vampire, which is why I bought it on DVD.
Oh my gosh. What a terrible movie. Two words for you: Midget Vampires.
Or should that be Vampire Midgets? Vampire Little People? *hangs head* What a bloody awful movie!!! LOL And I've sat through bad movies before for my boys... but this... I think... just horrible.
It was a futuristic environment, only noticable by women's weird hair styles and propoganda throughout government buildings in 1984-style ('Informing on your enemies makes them your friends'- what???) The vampires were horrible, and full of inconsistancies as far as blood is concerned. Adrian did one of his HORRIBLE accents (he was supposed to be polish) and I wanted the main character dead ten minutes into the movie. For the first 20 minutes he is pissed because a vampire murdered his partner. Then he gets teamed up with Adrian (the vampire) and suddenly- without ANY reason- becomes vampire friendly. So much so that he ends up sleeping with an Asian vampire not even halfway into the movie. She scared the shit out of me. FREAKY-ass costumes and her voice and ahhhh! SCARY VAMPIRESS!!!
But they tried. If you look REALLY hard there is a good message about racism- which is one of the messages that's believable, coming from vampires who have lived long enough to see so much injustice and hatred and killing in the world. And you've got a Polish jew vamp whose families died at nazi hands trying to help a black mortal guy who's confused and headstrong and who's sleeping with an vamp Asian chick. Really, they tried. But the message is lost behind some convoluted plot with murders and secret meetings and misunderstandings and some virus and renegade cops with grudes that the ex-renegade cop doesn't even like.
And there's a sex club with naked women. And a panther who is a vampire and gets blood injections. And tension between mortals and vampires. And a computer database of vampires that pops up on screen conveniently for viewers every time they run into a new character. And horrible, horrible attempts at scientifically explaining vampires that do NOT work. And tension between vampires about real vs. synthetic blood. And, oh, did I mention MIDGET VAMPIRES?!!!
Whoo boy. Can't wait to watch it again with the director commentary. *runs away screaming in terror*
