tarotgal: (Fight AIDS)

Seriously, today has been the day of awesome, even though I woke up at stupid early o'clock. I don't do mornings, so waking up at 5:30 was AWFUL. I had time enough to read part 7 of Soul Deep, though (Xanthe is finally posting the new fic, and I'm entirely in love with it and fangirling it like a lunitic) .

Then I headed into DC for AIDS Walk Washington. I can't even remember how many I've been to now. This was either my 8th, 9th, or 10th. And it depends on whether you count the ones where I just walked or just raised money. I don't know at this point. But it was a great one. I got to talk with Linda Carter! Um, yeah, WONDER WOMAN, Lynda Carter! I was stationed at the volunteer tent (my first time ever doing that) and she came over for coffee and was talking about weenie whistles and quoting the Santa Clause and it was hilarious but so awesome. My fellow volunteer totally squeed :-) She was gorgeous, too. You could tell she was a celeb because she looked better than any of us at 7:30am :-) I loved working the volunteer tent, because I got to meet all the volunteers who came to check in, I got to give them t-shirts, I got to helpfully point people in various directions, and I got to give out free food & coffee. Seriously awesome. I got pulled off that briefly to help move some boxes out of the Warner Building... where S is stationed. So lots of hugs and catching up there. He and his boy just moved up to Alexandria so he's nearby now. W00t! Had a fun time dancing to ABBA songs and old 80s hits with the other volunteers as we kept the walkers' energy levels up before the race & walk began. All the people I volunteered with this year were SUPER awesome. Sometimes there are a couple people just doing it for volunteer hours or complaining that it's too hot/cold/sunny/boring/whatever. But this year was possibly the best in terms of volunteers. And the lad I was volunteering with at the end of the day (dead sexy British accent boy, I call him) was possibly one of the nicest boys I've never met. He totally didn't mind S dragging me away from my work to talk. The walk has raised about $80,000 so far, but donations will keep coming in all month, apparently, so the fact that it's less raised than last year isn't worrying anyone yet. And that's still awesome. It was wonderful to see everyone come out for it. AND this year they turned the stage around so those of us working could see the entertainment as well (dancing cowboys=yummy eye candy).

I ended up going out to lunch afterward with S, his boy, & his friend (the official event photographer). It was kind of a quiet lunch (with three gay boys, you'd think discussion would be all lively and over the place) but I think we were frankly all exhausted at that point. There was a brunch men at the place we ate. Gods, I love brunch. I'm such a sucker for breakfast foods.

I was dropped off on the mall after lunch and I spent a few hours going from museum to museum, making notes about security procedures at each one and investigating to find out if there were any literary-related items in the collection. I made a lot of progress and I also talked to lots of museum staff that had no clue what I was talking about.
Me: "I'm running a book convention and am looking at each museum to see if there are any items that are related to books or writing in any way."
Person behind a desk: "There's a beaded flag over there with writing on it."
Um, no. But I did find some amazing pieces I'm excited about that will work beautifully. And I didn't get to all the museums (tummy problems took up more time than I would have liked, though now I know where all the good bathrooms in the American History Museum are located) but I made a great dent in the project. I even bought a couple small presents for people but two of them read this blog so... I'm not saying what they are ;-)

My feet and legs are SO tired, though. I slept all the way to DC on the Metro on the way in this morning and fell asleep several times on the way home as well. On my way home, I remembered to stop by the Dollar Store and I picked up a bunch of things for my October project: holiday gift-giving. They had Christmas cards on sale. Two boxes of 16 each for just $1. Awesome. I bought loads of things. Post-it notes, pens, notebooks, pipe cleaners (those are actually for another project), Disney puzzles, stickers, calendars, candy(well, that's actually for me), ornaments, etc.

Then I came home in time to watch the last few minutes of the Virginia Tech game. Apparently, the comeback they made during this game is their biggest comeback in history. Whoohoo! Go Hokies!

Oh, and the Metro was a breeze today. No track maintenance on my line like there was last week, so it was a smooth, delay-free ride home that took exactly as long as expected. Thank goodness. And I finished an audio book in the car as well! Yay for accomplishments!

And what do I get to come home to? The two latest parts of Xanthe's Soul Deep. Aw yeah. Best feeling in the world driving home, knowing that the story was waiting for me there. Yes, I have a pathetic life. Your point? The story ends with the final three chapters posted tomorrow night. I'm really sad for it to be over but can't wait to see how it ends. I am so in love with this Tony and Gibbs and their daemons. *happy sigh*

It's been a good day. I know I need to do laundry and work on BookCrossing registration tonight. And I'm going to my very first LEGO meetup tomorrow and am SCARED TO DEATH about it because everyone brings something to display and I've got nothing at all and there's no time to build anything by tomorrow. But I get a discount at the LEGO store if I go and the new Harry Potter sets just came out yesterday. And I do want to go and keep my LEGO interest up. I'm just nervous because it's something I've never done and I'm not going prepared with something awesome in hand to talk about.
