Summary: Poor and stuck on land, one more thing goes wrong for Hornblower when he comes down with a cold.

I tried to use three different timelines to figure Pellew's career out, but in the end I had to say 'screw it' and just hope that he was an Admiral at this point in the timeline *crosses fingers* I hope I didn't get anything else in canon wrong; certainly let me know if I did so I can fix it right away. I must admit I wrote thing during NaNoWriMo so it's a little long-winded, but I usually write that way when I write Hornblower fics anyway. Please excuse any errors, though; it's not well edited. And now, after a paragraph of excuses for the possibly poor writing, I do hope you enjoy this and that it's close enough to what you were hoping for! Have a fantastic holiday season! :-)

This was wonderful! Horatio's voice seemed just right, and of course the sneezes were just glorious. Don't beat yourself up over the writing, because I think it was great!

Well, the excuses for possibly poor writing were definitely unnecessary, because it was brilliant! I loved the descriptions of Hornblower's struggles to stay presentable; that's so wonderfully in character :) The interactions with both Bush and Pellew were also marvelous, and I particularly liked Bush shielding Hornblower from view to allow him to get himself together in private. Again, very much in keeping with both characters.

Altogether, a fantastic job; thanks so much for writing it!

If the series can fudge dates and characters, why can't you? Especially when you do it to such lovely effect. I loved the Pellew moment. It was short, but sweet, and I've always loved that protective dynamic. And Bush! Squee! I love your characterisation of them both, and just can't resist a sneezy Hornblower. ♥ Thank you for sharing this!
