Pre-convention bitch fest
Apr. 13th, 2011 10:30 pmToday was a bad day. My allergies are so bad I can hardly breathe and I only have a matter of hours now before I leave for the big convention I've been helping to plan for 2 years. There is SO much to do and I had to get my hair dyed for the fundraiser today. Which required driving 2 hours to get to Charlottesville, which is fine. But instead of leaving at, like, noon or 11, I had to leave at 9am and I didn't get home until 9pm. I spent 12 hours trying not to cough with every single fucking breath. It was the most miserable physically I have ever felt. Not to mention I'm exhausted because I can't sleep (I've been sleeping sitting up because of the coughing). And halfway through, I get my period. Oh GREAT. Thanks, body. So now I'm exhausted, can't breathe, don't want to cough fully because it sounds awful and I gag, and now I have to deal with cramps and headache during the convention? And the thermacare pads I use have been unavailable for months because of a product defect so I don't even get them to help me like usual. Oh great. But, seriously, I should have gone to the woman my friend Ken suggested in Arlington. I wasted the entire day just sitting around doing nothing and getting worse, physically, when I had convention things I needed to get done. And then people kept smoking outside with the door open so my allergies got 10 times worse. I'm SO miserable right now. Came home and coughed and then went right out to Walmart where I FORGOT to buy dark towels because no one told me ahead of time I needed to buy black towels. This is SO inconvenient. Now I have to go to Walmart as soon as they open in the morning to buy black towels. And I get to live at a hotel starting tomorrow and not use hotel towels and cover the pillows and sheets with towels (or the pillows, at least). This is SO stupid. As if I didn't have trouble sleeping already?
Luckily, my hair looks good. Like, really good. It looks amazing. It's supposed to be bright purple but it came out to be bright blue because of the peroxide they thought would be a good idea. I went from having Spike hair to having Illyria hair today :-) It's freakin awesome-looking.
And I'm really stressed about all the work I have to get done tonight and I can't fucking breathe. Not being able to breathe makes planning and running a convention SO much harder! It's a complication I was NOT counting on at all. What with protesters and the possible government shut down, I thought I could at least count on being able to breathe! And I thought I could count on, you know, getting work done today instead of sitting around and doing nothing for the entire day apart from fighting for every single breath.
All that aside, I'm really excited about the convention. I'm going to do the best I can to make this the happiest, most enjoyable convention every BookCrossers could ever hope for. I know it's going to be amazing and I'm looking forward to enjoying the experience. I can't wait to meet everyone and have fun with them! This is going to be a once in a lifetime experience. I can't wait... but I wish I had today to do over again. Where did that time turner go?
PS- DAMNIT, CAPS, you had better win!
