Weekends

Last weekend was just a piece of crap. It was full of miserable moments and grumbling and frustration. The week wasn't much better (so much drama at work I can't legally talk about in case a lawsuit comes of it, but at one point I went out in my car and cried for about 10 minutes to calm down... and I'm not even in the middle of all the real drama, thank goodness!).

This weekend was much better. I watched all my Blockbuster online discs (well, one turned out to be cracked, but I watched the other two). So I'm just about able to cancel my membership there. I've had Gormenghast Vol 2 for a year and a half now from Blockbuster, and I finally got Vol 1 from Netflix, so I could watch it in order (that was a seriously messed up miniseries. But amazing acting). I slept in on Sunday (SO nice) and went to an open house of a house I won't be buying (the one I wanted to see was on the market 4 days and a contract was put on it yesterday so they canceled today's open house; drat!). I made pumpkin trophies and goodie bags. I went to the Harry Potter Halloween party tonight and had fun (lots of food, lots of creative costumes & carved pumpkins). We played Deathly Hallows charades and Harry Potter mad libs (apparently Remus Lupin turns into a toe every month and Snape makes him a shrub that keeps him pretty as long as he takes it in the millennium preceding the Olympics. Who knew?).

But the best part of the weekend? I get to cross one item of my bucket list! For YEARS I've wanted to get hit in the face with a pie. I feel like it's one of those things you see as part of kind of a cultural understanding but something I've never experienced. So years ago I put it on my list of things to do before I die. I've told TONS of friends and family members about this item, and they all laugh and seem excited about it, but no one ever did anything about it. UNTIL TONIGHT! Tonight, I got hit in the face with a pie! (Well, really it was a plate full of whipped cream, but that's what most of those pies are, so the fact that it was a plate and not a pie tin is a perfectly acceptable substitution IMHO. Because it was all about the sensation, not the technicality. And I definitely experienced it! In fact, my hair still smells like whipped cream (I'm going to have to wash it twice in one day now LOL). Also, the person doing the hitting, so to speak, is a sketch actress so she knew the proper form and technique so that I could still breathe. Hey, it wasn't just being hit in the face with a pie. It was being hit in the face with a pie by a professional! Perfect! And there were lots of people to take photos. Actually, no one was taking photos until I mimed "camera" from behind the pie and then I could see/feel camera flashes going off all around the room. So yay! One item to cross off my already pretty short bucket list. WHOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I spent Friday evening at the write-in and Saturday during the day writing gift fics for friends who had birthdays in September. I wrote a Snape/Hermione, a Sam Carter/Rodney McKay, and a Spock/Uhura. You KNOW I love you when I'll write HET for you! That doesn't happen if my muses have anything to say about it. Now if I can just get the muses to cooperate so I can write a Fudge/James Potter fic for the Daisy Chain tomorrow. Yikes!

OH! And I'm 4 pages into my first fic for the Annual Sneezefic Challenge! It's sooooooooo nice to have the challenge back :-) I can't wait to see what awesomeness people come up with for it :-)
