For the month of April, I’m breaking out of my usual “format” and showcasing one of my favorite fandoms a day, so I will have shiny things to make me smile every day of my birthday month. When I sat down to write the list of my top 30 fandoms, I found the task terribly hard. How do I choose just 30? My apologies to all my beloved fandoms left off the list. I’m using random.org to determine what fandom gets what day.

Favorite Comic Book ‘Verse: Astonishing X-Men

Favorite Characters: The Beast, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Cyclops, Professor X, Gambit (I adore the women, too, but they’re just not my absolute favorites)

How I Got Into It: I watched the animated series on Saturday mornings when I was a kid; my friends collected the cards but I never had ‘em. Seeing the Phoenix saga for the first time is still one of my vivid childhood memories; I was shocked. I saw all the movies in theaters, but it was X-Men Evolution that really grew on me; I rewatch the whole thing over again every few years.

How I Fangirl: I’ve written fanfiction. I’ve made fanvids. I’ve bought comics and TPBs and all the movies (even the ones I didn’t like so much).

Favorite Fandom Creation: My favorite fanfics aren’t online now, but they’re by a lass named LB and they were Nightcrawler-centric

Why I’m Glad I Fangirl It: The characters. All the characters are amazing. It’s no wonder they keep making spin-off movies and different version of the characters in different universes because there are SO MANY places writers can take these characters. They’re human and real. I love the X-Men using their powers for good and getting shunned from the mutant hating population for it. I love the angst and the drama, the relationships (not just the romantic ones, but just the mash-ups of characters together), and the backstories. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of different X-Men versions… except they’re all melding in my mind into one big selective headcanon. heehee
