Have had a good day so far.
I woke up at 9 this morning, had a nice morning snuggling with cats (and listening to Hamilton, of course). Cassie used the litterbox instead of the floor, which is a HUGE win and makes my day start happy every time she does it (yesterday I had to hunt for it in the laundry room).
I went over to my main Comic Book store for Free Comic Book Day. There's a limit on 5 there, but I got some good ones (Serenity, Doctor Who, Cap, etc.). I stood in like for about 40 minutes. There was a Rey pop figure I wanted but by the time I made it out, she'd already found a new home. I almost bought Bucky (because I have 2 Caps, one who I ship with Iron Man and Wolverine and one that just hangs out with Coulson and Hawkeye). The place was alive with excitement, lots of activity, Star Wars cosplayers, lots of $1 comics. I almost bought Poe's first two issues, but decided I'm going to buy the TPB anyway.
Then I headed over to the comic and game store in downtown that I've always wanted to go to and never have because I'm nervous about going to new places. But it's literally a 4 minute drive straight down the street and 1 block around the corner. So I went and there were THREE PEOPLE THERE. A dad and his two kids. And they were OVERFLOWING in free comic books. They even had a couple the other place didn't, plus no limits. So I got a few more. Score! To thank them for making this experience much more fun, I ended up buying that Deadpool & Hawkeye TPB I've had my eye on for a while. I also bought a couple dice for my swap-bot partner (tabletop games is the mini bag this time around, and she likes dice, so I got a few pretty ones). The girl working there was impressed by me. She asked why I was buying the dice and I told her I had a swap partner who requested them and she was like "Ohhhhhh you're giving them to your girlfriend? That's the sweetest!!" and I was like "That WOULD be the sweetest, but no." And then she high-fived me for being single. And when she saw I was buying Deadpool & Hawkeye (or is it Hawkeye and Deadpool?) she asked if I wanted recommendations. I said sure. She walked me over to the Marvel section and picked up Hawkeye Vol 1 and I said "Oh, I already have all of Matt Fraction's Hawkeye in hardcover." And she squealed "In HARDCOVER? Good for you!" and insisted on another high-five. Then she introduced me to her favorite Deadpool series and asked if I liked literature. When I said I worked for a literary nonprofit, yep, another high-five. She was very easily excited. LOL
I dropped my stuff off at home and headed to the library used book sale. I poked around for a few minutes until it closed (I'd been the day before and spent $17) and bought Hitch on DVD. Um, am I the only person in the world who'd bought that movie on DVD specifically because of the Will Smith sneeze in the gag reel? Probably. But I do not apologize. They also had SPN season 1&2 on DVD, which I didn't buy, but I did pet. I hope they find good homes. I then waited outside for 40 minutes for the bag sale to start. I bought the skinnest fiction books I could find in various genres. Managed to pack them in beautifully. Probably ended up with 120 books for $10. Not bad! Not free like they would be at the Book Thing, but the poor Book Thing is suffering after its fire, so that wasn't an option this year, and I've got a book festival in just 2 weeks.
I drove to the craft store after that, but was thirsty and realized it was around 2:30 and I hadn't really had anything to drink all day. So I did a grocery run and got iced tea. AND I found the Nature Valley Bars I'd been jonesing for are being discontinued. So I bought 3 boxes for $1.59 each. I'm both happy and sad about that. I checked for Disney LEGO minifigs, and there weren't any.
Then I went to the craft store, bought my mom 2 presents for tomorrow that were both 50% off! And I remembered to used my "teacher" discount (VERY few perks come with my job, which I might not have for long, so I'm taking advantage of them when I can now instead of feeling guilty about not actually being a teacher). I bought my other swap partner some Marvel stickers and bought a couple items for various swaps and projects. Came out to less than $20. Was proud of myself! I can really spent a buttload in those stores.
There are all these signs up around the parking lot saying you can take your Michael's receipt to the neighboring Subway for a free cookie, no purchase necessary. I've always been skeptical but curious. I actually sat in my car for 3 minutes staring at my receipt and debating. Finally, I worked up the courage and I tried it out today and voila: free cookie! No strings attached! Amazing!
My house is in disarray because of recent purchases piling up by the door and books EVERYWHERE. So I suspect the rest of my weekend will be spent cleaning and organizing. Also, my knee is feeling better today. Yay! So things are coming together. Now the Caps just have to do their part tonight and keep my day going well.
Think I'll do some cleaning... and maybe an early dinner to make up for not really eating much all day. (Had a few handfuls of dry cereal for breakfast, a breath mint, an iced tea on the road, and a fake meat pulled pork mini hot pocket snack thing for lunch). And I've got, like 7 book reviews to write. And I'll listen to Hamilton some more. Yep. Obsession... though while waiting in lines today, I did get about 100 pages of my current book read... and I did some mental writing of Hamilton fic. I blame myself, of course, but also because I paused the soundtrack this morning before leaving the house on "Say No to This." So, yeah, sex-related Hamilton thoughts were inevitable. It's actually one of my least favorite songs content-wise, but I appreciate Hamilton not being portrayed as without fault as well.
